Memories

My memory for today comes from the good ole days in the Clave Cave, otherwise known as Enclave 211 (back in the days before it was remodeled and spiffied up). The memory centers around the re-enactment of a certain movie and a group of full-grown men getting sucked into a 4-hour BBC chick flick and LOVING IT!! For those of you that were there, it was magical. For those of you who weren't there, you missed out. Look back, Look back at me!

True Blue

Most people who know me, or even people who just met me briefly, know that I am a diehard BYU football fan. The words "crazy", "obsessed" and "emotionally dependent upon BYU football" are often used to describe my interest. They are often accompanied by a shake of the head. Few people understand my passion for the Cougs. I would like to take this opportunity to explain why I love BYU football.

First of all, I am a huge football fan. I grew up watching the game and cheering for the Seahawks and the 49ers (and hating the Cowboys, of course). There is just something about watching a quarterback throw a perfectly timed ball into the hands of his receiver, despite the fact that 250 pound men are trying to lay the smack down on him and the fact that his receiver is 50 yards away. It just amazes me that someone can be that accurate, especially since he has to throw the ball way before his receiver even gets to the spot. I love watching a defensive player beat his man and come flying around to sack the quarterback. I just love watching football.

I especially love watching football live. I love getting all bundled up with long-johns, 2 layers of pants, a long-sleeved shirt, a BYU shirt, a BYU sweatshirt, and BYU socks and huddling together with my friends in the stands as we sip our hot cocoa and scream ourselves hoarse as the Cougs work their magic. I love spending a fall Saturday afternoon outside in the crisp air giving high fives all around and trying to imitate a Cougar's roar after BYU has scored. I love planning a road trip to go watch the Cougs on the road.

Not only do I love BYU football because I love watching football, but I love that BYU football is about a lot more than just a game. Coach Mendenhall pushes his player's to be successful in everything they do and to be good representatives of the LDS faith. If anyone has been to one of the firesides that the team puts on before every game, you know what I am talking about. Bronco is THE MAN! If someone wants to make me a "Bronco is My Hero" T-shirt I will love them forever.

Although I like it when BYU wins and is on top, it isn't all about winning and losing for me. If BYU is playing horrible and losing a big game, I'm gonna sit there at watch the entire game. If Bronco makes a bad call, I'm not gonna start questioning whether or not he is a good coach. I am most certainly not ever going to boo my team. If BYU loses to Utah, I'm still gonna be a diehard Cougar fan and wear my BYU shirt to school the next day.

I love BYU football because it is fun to be a part of something bigger than yourself. It is awesome to be on a plane flight from Brazil and have someone stop and say they are a huge BYU fan too. It is awesome to go to a game at UW and have about 8,000 other BYU fans there. It is awesome to be a part of "Cougar Nation" and know who cruiser and airwolf are. BYU football is just awesome!!!

Some favorite BYU football memories:

Watching Bryan Kehl outrun about 5 people to take down a player in the 2007 Air Force game. (see minute 2:55)

Anything involving Matt Allen. The man could catch anything.

Nate Meikle's diving catch at the goal line in the 2006 UNLV game.

The blocked field goal in the 2007 Las Vegas Bowl.

The David Nixon quarterback smack-downs in the 2006 and 2007 TCU games (unfortunately I could not add 2008 to that list).
(see minute 1:40)

4th and 18.

And last, but not least, "John Beck is on the run, he throws behind him, it is... CAUGHT FOR THE TOUCHDOWN, CAUGHT FOR THE TOUCHDOWN!"

Fall Break

I had the chance to visit my sister, brother-in-law and nephew in Eugene, Oregon for fall break this past week! Eugene is absolutely beautiful this time of year, with all the trees changing from green into brilliant yellows, reds and oranges. It was wonderful and the week flew by way too fast! My sister and I had a great time making jewelry and we all sat for hours watching Planet Earth. Have you seen that show? It is incredible.

We also went to a local farm and took a hayride to a pumpkin patch and let Dallin play around in the pumpkins. It was a perfect fall-time, pre-Halloween activity!

Dallin with his pumpkins. Isn't he adorable??

My brother-in-law Landon, sister Heather, and nephew Dallin

Although Dallin has thousands of adoring fans, I solidified my place as one of his favorites by introducing him to playing "Horsie". He loved to ride on my back and he would just giggle as we trotted around and when he was losing his balance and falling.

THANKS HEATHER AND LANDON FOR A GREAT VACATION! YOU GUYS ARE THE BEST FAMILY A GIRL COULD ASK FOR!!

Welcome To My Blog!

In an effort to keep in touch with friends in a way other than facebook, I've made a small step forward and started a blog. Eventually I will probably make the step to actual telephone conversations! But for now, I will be diligent in updating my blog (most likely during class)! If you have a blog too, I would love to check it out, so post the URL!
