Trip to West Coast

Karen and I went on a trip the the West Coast. We stopped at Castle Hill on our drive to Greymouth. The limestone rocks were reminiscent of scenes from Lord of the Rings. You could say that about much of NZ, truth be told.

We were at Dorothy Falls on Day 2, leaving Hokitika on the way back to Greymouth.

The only shot I had taken in Greymouth. I can't remember the name of this place. It was just a short bush walk.

In Hokitika.

This would probably be Lake Kahikatea, in Hokitika.

On Day 4 we visited the Model Village on our way out of Greymouth heading back to Christchurch. This is a scale model of Reefton.

This is a scale model of Waiuta, which used to be a busy mining town but has since been abandoned.

Scale models of English buildings, not part of Waiuta. It was a new project the model builder Alan Hunt was starting.

A scale model of a Maori village? Town?

On Day 3 we went to Punikaiki to see the Pancake Rocks, which are limestone rocks that have been formed by sea and wind to resemble pancakes.

On Day 4, after visiting the Model Village, we stopped by Shantytown.

The photos aren't in chronological order, sorry. But a good time was had by all. Karen did a great job organising the trip and drawing up a schedule and itinerary for us. AND she drove as well. *phew* All I had to do was sit back and relax! I walked a lot, enjoyed the scenery and the fresh air, and ha ha even got a bit of a sunburn!

Road Trip

Am going on a road trip with Karen, my friend and colleague in the Maths dept, to Greymouth, a little town in the West Coast. We'll be staying for 4 days and 3 nights, and of course we won't be in Greymouth the entire time.

Karen has plans for us to go see the pancake rocks at Punakaiki, and to visit Hokitika. She has some other plans as well, but I can't remember the names of the places we'll be visiting.

I'll bring my camera and try to take some photos. I don't want to go back to school/work. I know, random. That just came outta nowhere, ha!

Christmas and New Year in Melbourne

Wowee I've had an awesome time in Melbourne! Thank you so much to my bestie Jess and her amazing significant other Jay for putting me up for two whole weeks! It would have been nice to say I went around Melbourne sightseeing and visiting important, historical sights, or typical Melburnian tourist spots, but I didn't. I spent nearly the whole time shopping. In malls. In the city. In factory outlets. It was heaven. I think it was a good thing I had only 2 weeks there. Any longer, and Jess and I would have had to busk on the street to get money for food.

Arrived on Xmas day and we spent the day chilling in their apartment. Jess roasted a lamb, and I spent a couple of hours that afternoon napping. I couldn't sleep a wink the night before, I think I was too excited about seeing them. Crazy.

Jay burps just to annoy me. I know it.

We went to Yarra River again on NYE to watch the fireworks. Man, it was cold that night! The previous year it was sweltering! I was wearing a loose tank dress and that was it. You know, when I got back to Christchurch, it was 33 degrees, and then the next day it was about 35 degrees!! The universe is playing tricks on us. I think mum suffered from heat exhaustion cos today she was feeling really woozy and nauseous, and she threw up 4 times. She didn't make me dinner.

This lil rascal is called Dylan, and he is one half of a pair of guinea pigs that Jess and Jay own. His pal Dexter peed on me.

I went crazy in Metalicus buying tops, dresses, and skirts. I love their stuff. Its a 'one size fits all' store. I went back to another Metalicus store for a second dose, that's how much I loved their stuff. Insane.

Ferrero Rocher thingey at Melbourne Central.

Korean bbq.

Wheeeeeee. Back in Christchurch now. Merry Xmas and Happy New Year to one and all!! Go kick some ass!!
