labor rocks!!

so here is the story, although it's not as crazy as some of you are probably thinking up. let's just say i came really close to having the baby at home or in the car. i had run a lot of errands that day-and was really tired and uncomfortable. we took ellie to her school open house then hit up the case sale at Smiths. home, kids in bed, on the couch-the usual routine.

i was having a little pain (instead of the normal uncomfortable contractions)...but seriously it was 12 days before my due date (and i have my kids late) and all of us doubt ourselves when it comes to labor. i humored myself and started timing them (without jason knowing). at first the contractions were like 5 min apart. 40min. later i was in some serious pain and they were 1 1/2 min apart.

i felt silly saying to jason , "i think i'm in labor," so i tried to drop hints and get him to say, " do we need to go to the hospital." no use-his offer was for tylenol at first...then for a cold pack.

***sidenote: this last 40 min (without jason knowing) was spent gathering school #'s and other #'s i hadn't gotten around to collecting yet, packing a bag for the kids, and gathering last min. things i would need-i kinda knew it was coming-and i was a little excited to get out of the lesson i was preparing to teach for sunday.

ok. 40 minutes of timed contractions and i finally say (yell) to jason, "you need to take me to the hospital to get some medicine."

*10min later a friend comes over to stay the night with the kids
*we jump in the car at which point i tell jason the baby is coming now (my labor with ash was a couple hours-so he knew i was serious).
*our 5 min drive to the hospital took 3 min-jason drove 93 mph, ran 2 stop signs, and i'll stop there.
*hospital--i waddle in, tell the ER desk person my baby is coming right now--rush to room
*get out of wheelchair start to climb on bed-water breaks and jason thinks i wet my pants :)
*nurse says, " yes, your baby is here start pushing." no doctor. no epidural. lots of pain.
*baby is coming out face first (instead of head)--nurses get nervous not having a doctor there...so they tell me to HOLD THE BABY IN TILL THE DR SHOWS UP. are you kidding me! it's trying to get out, my body wants it out and the nurses make me keep her in-PAIN!(i didn't have an epidural with ash either-but this pain was worse)
*20min later, dr. shows up, push twice, welcome reese !!!

that was a close call! another 1/2 hr of waiting to make sure it was labor and jason would have delivered her.
