We Helped the Shelter

Each year my kindergarten class does three service projects.  One is for an animal shelter.  This is a great way to remind small children to RESPECT AND BE KIND TO ALL LIVING THINGS.

This year my class collected items for the animal shelter where my sweet Ruby came from.  We had bottles of bleach, laundry detergent, Dawn detergent, blankets, towels, wash cloths, and treats!  I delivered the items to the shelter Saturday.  I had a car full including the trunk.

Ruby went with me on the trip so Laurie, the shelter owner could see how well she is.
 When Ruby arrived at the shelter as a stray, she was in terrible shape with heartworms, hook worms, ear infections, a respitory infection, and very under-nourished.  It is amazing she survived the heart worm treatment.

Now here is a photo of Ruby Saturday with Laurie. She is very happy and very healthy.  We need more people in the world like Laurie.

Here is a little Halloween card I made this evening.  I am trying to finish up a couple of more cards to take to school tomorrow to give to a few of my friends.  

The pumpkins were cut from the Cricut Holiday Cakes cartridge.  I used paper from DCWV for the pumpkins.  The little sentiment is a stamp from My Craft Spot.

  The little green gems are from Recollections.  All other paper I used is from K&Company.  The ribbon is Holiday Inspirations.

My Sheri Crafts is All About Sports

First, I 'd like to say how very excited I am to be on the Fabulous Design Team here at My Sheri Crafts.  We have some wonderful challenges coming up so you will not want to miss a one.

This week we are ALL ABOUT SPORTS.  The challenge is to make a project that has to do with sports.  It can be any kind of sports.  So, of course I immediately thought Alabama Football.  Being a die hard fan, and the fact that I had made several projects already this fall about the TIDE, it seemed only natural.

But, I was looking through a magazine and saw a gorgeous photo of an ice skater and thought, I will do a card about ice skating.  I just love to watch ice skating.  It is so beautiful and graceful.  So here is my card.

The frame is cut from the Formal Occasions cartridge with paper from My Mind's Eye.   I wove some sheer pink ribbon around the edge of the frame and tied a bow.  The skater is cut from the Winter Woodlands cartridge.  I used paper from Colorbok.  I added some Stickles to her dress.  The base mat of the card was embossed with a snowflake folder in the Cuttlebug.  And then I inked it with a silver ink pad.  The inside of the card says "You Have Earned a Medal".

Too Cute To Spook Shaker Card

I have been wanting to make a shaker card for some time.  And so now I have finally gotten around to it.  And now I know it will not be the last.

I cut the card base from the Lacey Labels cartridge using a rich olive green paper from Core Dinations.  The pumpkin was from the Damask Decor cartridge using paper from Recollections.  I used a piece of plastic from a Cricut cartridge package for the window in the pumpkin.  The little beads came from Michaels.  

 I cannot remember which cartridge I used to cut the fall leaves.  But I also used paper from Core Dinations for the leaves.  If I remember the cartridge, I will add it to the post.  The leaves were glittered with a swirl glitter glue I found at Jo Ann's.  The swirl is gold and copper glitter.  i love the look of it!  The little scarecrow is a brad from the Oriental Trading Co.

i made the tag with Core Dinations paper and a stamp from My Craft Spot.  The little gems are from The Paper Studio.  The card was completed with a little sheer ribbon from my stash.

Scarecrows, Hay, Crows and a Sketch

It is time for a new challenge at Cooking With Cricut.  This week we have scarecrows, hay, crows and a sketch for you.  There are three different sketches, depending on the type project you choose to do.  I chose a card project.  Here is the sketch for the card.

And here is the card I created.   The papers used are DCWV.  And the vine border was created with a Martha Stewart border punch. 

First, let me say that I love my little scarecrow.  Using the Gypsy, I cut the scarecrow from the Simply Charmed cart with just the top part of the image showing on the cutting mat.  I did not want to use the entire scarecrow body, so therefore to save paper and time, I just designed him "bottomless".  After cutting him out, I gave him a face that actually makes him look scared of the crows!  Ha!Ha!  His little face is stamped with a Peachy Keen stamp from the Pumpkin Faces set.  And I gave him a raffia ribbon bow on his hat.  

When cutting the fence out, I used the same method on my Gypsy.  I only wanted the top of the fence to show.  The fence is cut from the Heritage cartridge.  The Indian corn is cut from the Thanksgiving cartridge.  After adding brown, yellow and bronze ink to the corn, I added gold, yellow, brown and copper glitter glue.  

This is my new favorite pumpkin cut and it is from Damask Decor.  I just can't seem to get enough of this pumpkin.  I added flourishes cut from Picturesque.  And since I was in the glitter mood the pumpkin and flourishes got glittered too.  The stamp is from Joy's Life.  And all of the little crows that are annoying the scarecrow are epoxy stamps from ColorBok.

It's Fall at Celebrate The Occasion

This week the challenge at Celebrate The Occasion is all about FALL!  Fall just happens to be my favorite season so I am more than excited about this challenge.

I created the card by cutting the pumpkin from the Damask Decor cartridge.  I cute the tag from Lacey Labels.  I inked the edges of the tag and used a stamp from Candy Corn Kisses stamp set.  This set is from My Craft Spot.  The beautiful crinkle ribbon is from My Craft Spot as well.  Isn't it just lovely tied on this pretty pumpkin.  All of the papers used to create the card are from DCWV.  And to finish the card I added some pretty fall leaves and gold gems on the tag.

Adopt A Shelter Pet Hop

Hello, and welcome to A Little Bit of  Detail and the Cooking With Cricut "Adopt A Shelter Pet Hop"!  October is National Adopt a Shelter Dog Month, but we wanted to celebrate and honor all of our furry friends!  If you've come from visiting Adrian you are in the right place.  If you just happened across my blog and would like to hop along with us, you can go to Cooking With Cricut and start at the beginning.

I am so thrilled to be a part of this blog hop because it means so much to me.  Last May, after the tornadoes tore through Alabama, I adopted a shelter dog. Her name is Ruby and she is a 3 lb. 4 year old, Maltese. She is the sweetest little dog ever! You can see a photo of Ruby on the right of my blog.  She is joined there by Jack and Magnolia, my two other little dogs.  I decided to make a Halloween card to take to the shelter and thank them for taking such good care of my sweet Ruby while she was in their care.  My class at school is collecting items for me to take to "treat" the animals at the shelter next weekend.  So here is my card.

I created the card using the Nate's ABC's cartridge.  The little dog, bowl, and the words Doggy Treats are all from the Nate's ABCs.  The "Trick or" stamp is from K Andrew Designs. 

I added a couple of puffy pumpkin stickers to the sentiment.  And I also added some puffy stickers to the dog bowl.

All of the paper I used to create the card is from K&Co.  The crinkle ribbon is from My Craft Spot.  And here is the inside of my card.

Isn't this just the perfect sentiment.  All of our furry friends are our best friends for eternity.  This stamp is from Joy's Life.  And I added a few more pumpkins to complete the look.

A Cup of Kindness

This week Cooking With Cricut is having a challenge using green, purple and a sketch.  Here is the sketch

This is one time when I saw the sketch, I knew exactly what I wanted to do.  So here is my card.

This card measures 6.5 x 5. The scalloped mat is made with K&Co paper and cut from the Storybook cartridge.  I used AC Specialties paper for the gold mat and cut it from the Elegant Edges cartridge.  I then added a little black mat that was embossed with a Damask folder and inked in gold.  And of course the focal point of the card is the teacup.  I just LOVE this teacup and spoon.  It is from Kate's ABC's.  Isn't it just one of the cutest teacups ever!!  

The sentiment I created on the computer.  I used a Fiskars corner punch on the upper left corner and them tied a two ribbons there.  I then added Recollections gems to the sentiment and floral mat.  And lastly, I added glitter glue to the spoon.  There is just something special about this card that makes me smile.

Fall is Finally Here

Today the kindergarten classes at my school went to Old Bakers Farm.  This is the oldest family working farm in Alabama.  It is over 200 years old and has been operated by the Baker family for over 100 years.  Over six generations of the Baker family have operated the farm.  We love going there to see the animals, pick cotton,  and go on a hayride to the pumpkin fields to pick a pumpkin.  But, the best thing of all is that we eat lunch in the top of the barn sitting on bails of hay.

Now to say all of that, I will tell you that today the temperature was 89 degrees and not a cloud in the sky.  We were soooooo hot.  It just seemed awkward picking a pumpkin in such heat.  But, fall weather is on the way.  A cold front is coming in and we will have nighttime lows in the 30's and daytime highs in the 50's.  I am thrilled.  So here is a card to celebrate some real fall weather.

The card base is a buttery yellow from The Vintage Fashion Colors pack by The Paper Company.  The mat is ivory card stock that was embossed with a pumpkin vine folder.  I inked the mat with bronze and brown inks.  The bottom of the mat was cut with a Martha Stewart wildflower border punch.  

Now for a little creativity, I took some mustard gold braided trim and ribbon weaved it.  I then cut flowers from an old sewing pattern.  I layered different sizes and shapes of flower petals with a brad that I had cut and then inked the edges with several different Tim Holtz distress ink pads.  I added a glittered epoxy sticker to the flower center.  I attached the flower to the braided trim with the brad.  The  the woven trim was attached to the card with scor-tape.  The sentiment is from K Andrew Designs.  And to finish the card, I added three little orange gems from Recollections.

Owl Be Home For Christmas

The MAG Challenge By the Page #47 is to use the Create a Critter cartridge page 25.  The MAG challenge is always interesting because you can use only the page of the cartridge  that is specified for the challenge.  Any embellishments are fine, but no other cartridge.  Here is the cartridge page.

And here is what I came up with for the challenge.

The card base is Kraft paper.  I embossed the white paper with a Cuttlebug folder and then inked it.  The red border was cut with an EK border punch.  I tied a blue ribbon and bow to the red border.  And to complete the card I stamped the sentiment with a Scrappy Mom's Stamp.  But I also felt it needed a little glitz so I added a little glittle glue to the owl.

Cakes, Cupcakes, and Teddy Bears

I have some super exciting news!!!  I am now a member of the the fabulous Cooking With Cricut  design team.  I love this blog and the great challenges they have.  But most of all I love the fun, friendly chefs and all the great cooking they do.  So I have put on my apron and am cooking it up myself!!

Did you know that October 12th is national "take a teddy bear to work day"?  Or that October 17 is "national cake decorating day"? And October 18 is "national chocolate cupcake day".  Well, everyone at Cooking With Cricut is ready to celebrate these days.  Hey, who doesn't like teddy bears and cake!!  So the challenge this week is to create a project that has either a cake, cupcake, or teddy bear on it.  Take a look at what I have created.

I created the card using the Sweet Treat cartridge for the cake and cupcakes.  And I used the Heritage cartridge to cut the teddy bears.  The paper i used is from the Colorbok Flea Market stack and the solid brown is from Recollections.  The cupcake border was made with an EK border punch.  And the little pink gems are from Recollecions.  And i finished the card with a tag from Studio G.  When i began thinking about the project I wanted to use all three items, the cake, cupcake and teddy bear on the card.  I had to give it a little thought as to how I wanted it to look and not be so cluttered.  I am so glad I followed through with it.  I am so pleased with the end result!!    I hope you will head over to the Cooking With Cricut blog and see all the great projects and meet the new members of the design team.  You will love them all!!

Love Bama Football

This week at Celebrate The Occasion the challenge is to create a project with the colors red, black, and white.  Oh, was that ever easy for me! The first thing that popped into my head was ALABAMA FOOTBALL.  If BAMA fans are not at the game, they are watching it on television.  So I wanted to make a card using a television.  I love this cut on the Nifty Fifties cartridge.

I found the photo of Bear Bryant on the net and thought it would be the perfect "show" for my television.  So I printed it out and used a template to cut it to fit the television screen.  I added a couple of gems for the tv channel and volume knobs.  

I also printed the hounds tooth ribbons from the net.  Since the tornado that ripped through Tuscaloosa on April 27th, the hounds tooth ribbon has become the symbol of the city. The epoxy sentiment stickers are from the Colorbok Flea Market collection.

The paper papers are from DCWV and The Paper Company.  The red and white ribbon is from Michael's.  

And here is the inside of the card with the perfect Bama message.  ROLL TIDE!!!

A Cute Little Owl

Here is a cute little owl card I made.

First, I would like to tell you that I used a sketch from Mojo Monday.  This is a sketch from this past June.  It is one that I have found to be a favorite.  The little owl is cut from the Give a Hoot cartridge with K&Co paper.  I used Recollections paper and a Martha Stewart paper punch for the leaves.  All other paper to create the card is from K&Co. I did some inking around all of the paper with black and brown ink pads. 

The sentiment stamp is from The Oriental Trading Company.  And the little gems are from Recollections.  I used a sheer black and white ribbon  on the card that I got at Hobby Lobby.  

I just love fall and just love making these fall cards!

In the Pumpkin Patch

Everyone is headed to the the pumpkin patch to get their Halloween pumpkin.  Wouldn't you just to find a patch of pumpkins looking like this!

The all of the paper is from Recollections.  The lard pumpkins are from Celebrate With Flourish and Freshly Picked. 

 The small pumpkins are puffy stickers from Hobby Lobby.  I used an EK border punch to create the dirt.  The little dots are also stickers from hobby Lobby.  The happy Harvest sentiment is from K Andrew Designs.

Hope

  Most of us have had a friend or relative who has had breast cancer.  And then there are some who have experienced it first hand.   My mom is a survivor and has been cancer free for several years.  She had her first mammogram when she was in her early seventies. And that is when hers was discovered.  She had no symptoms and only had the mammogram because she was tired of her doctor telling her she needed to have one.  I think she thought if she had it, he would drop the subject.  Well, instead, her life changed dramatically.  And she is now an advocate for mammograms.  And I have great hope and faith that we will one day have a cure for this deadly disease.

This is a card to honor my mom.  All of the paper is from my stash.  I used brown, bronze and gold for the inking.  The grosgrain ribbon is from my sewing stash as well as the lace. I used a Fiskar corner punch on the labels.  The little gold embellishments are from K&Co.  And the flourishes are from Recollections. 

I really like this Hope stamp.  It is from a nice stamp set all dedicated to the cure of cancer.  If you have not seen the set, I suggest you check it out at Oriental Trading.

Apple Pickin' Time

last week we celebrated the birthday of American legend, John Chapman, more commonly know as Johnny Appleseed.  I teach kindergarten.  And this is one of the most fun times of the year for us.  I love this time of year because I know that it is the first sign that fall is here and the weather will be getting coolor.   You can visit my class blog HERE.  The class blog is for family and friends of our class so they may have a better idea of what we are doing in school.  Typically kindergarteners will answer the question, "What did you do in school today?' with either "Play", "Nothing", or "I don't know".

Here is a card I made while thinking about all the apple activities we did last week.

The basket was cut from the Doodlecharms cartridge.  I inked it with bown, bronze and gold Colorbox ink pads.  I then used a brown colored pencil to add some distress lines to it.  The brads are from Recollections.   The apples were cut from the Country Life and Simply Charmed carts.  

The little sentiment stamps are from K Andrew Designs. 

The little bee stickers are from Jolee's Boutique.

I made this as a shape card just for a little extra fun.  

Now, I think I'll go and eat an apple and enjoy this pretty fall day.  And guess what, it is much cooler outside!!  I love it!
