Her new life at MIT is scary and exciting, but Morganville is never really far from Claire’s mind. Enrolled in a special advanced study program with Professor Irene Anderson, a former Morganville native, Claire is able to work on her machine, which is designed to cancel the mental abilities of vampires.

But when she begins testing her machine on live subjects, things quickly spiral out of control, and Claire starts to wonder whether leaving Morganville was the last mistake she’ll ever make...

Why did I selected the titles for this weeks WoW? I think I'll let these amazing new books and a new addition to one of my favorite series speak for themselves.

Title: Wounded
Author: Jasinda Wilder
Publisher: 277 Pages (December 16th, 2012)
Add to: Goodreads

NOTE: This is a "New Adult" title and is intended for adult readers due to mature content.

Synopsis: War has taken everything from me. My family. My home. My innocence. In a country blasted by war and wracked by economic hardship, a young orphan girl like me has very few options when it comes to survival. Thus, I do what I must to live, to eat, and I try very hard to not consider the cost to my soul. My heart is empty, and my existence brutal.

The one impossibility in my life is love.

And then I meet HIM.

War is hell. It takes a chunk out of a man's very soul to do the kinds of things war demands of you. You live with fear, you live with guilt, and you live with nightmares. If you haven't been through it, there's no understanding it. War leaves no room for love, no room for tenderness or softness. You gotta be hard, closed off, and ready to fight every moment of every day. Lose focus for a split second, and you're dead.

Now the only thing that can save me is HER.

Excerpt:

I have nothing to do but think. Nothing but memory and pain.
Derek is dead. It just hit me. I was too involved in the pain and in the mystery of Rania, but now, alone while she "works," all I have to do is feel the pain. Derek is dead.
God. He was my best friend. My only real friend. My brother. I've killed for him. We've stood over each other's bleeding bodies.
He's gone, but the pain won't let me cry. I can't. I don't know how anymore. After my parents died I wept, alone in a bathroom. I haven't since. Not for anything.
I won't cry for Derek, either. He wouldn't want me to. He'd tell me to get drunk in his memory. Bang a hot chick for him. Of course, none of that will happen now.

The reality of my situation is hitting me. I'm wounded, surrounded by insurgents. There's no sign of my unit. They might eventually come back for me, or at least to find my body. Until then, I'm stuck here. Reliant on this girl, this slip of a thing, this prostitute.
Rania. Her name is music. Her eyes are veiled pools of expression. She hides behind anger, behind toughness. It's all an act. I see the pain. See the fear. See the need. She's lonely. She hates what she does.

I think I confuse her as much as she does me.
She's back, cleaning herself up. It's a familiar pattern now. She returns from the building next door, a half-destroyed mosque, I think it's called. The irony of a prostitute operating in a bombed-out church isn't lost on me.

Add to: Goodreads
Purchase Altered: Amazon | Barnes and Noble | The Book Depository

Synopsis: When you can’t trust yourself, who can you believe?

Everything about Anna’s life is a secret. Her father works for the Branch at the helm of its latest project: monitoring and administering treatments to the four genetically altered boys in the lab below their farmhouse. There’s Nick, Cas, Trev . . . and Sam, who’s stolen Anna’s heart. When the Branch decides it’s time to take the boys, Sam stages an escape, killing the agents sent to retrieve them.

Anna is torn between following Sam or staying behind in the safety of her everyday life. But her father pushes her to flee, making Sam promise to keep her away from the Branch, at all costs. There’s just one problem. Sam and the boys don’t remember anything before living in the lab—not even their true identities.

Now on the run, Anna soon discovers that she and Sam are connected in more ways than either of them expected. And if they’re both going to survive, they must piece together the clues of their past before the Branch catches up to them and steals it all away.

Interview with Cas -

What did you do for Valentine's Day?

Ate chocolate.

What's your idea of the perfect date?

There would be food involved. Definitely food. And ice cream, which is like the upper echelon of food. Maybe some Celine Dion. Love that chic.

Say you're making a Mixed CD for someone special/important to you. What would be on that CD?

Celine Dion! My heart will go on. And on and on. It’s a big heart. I have love for everyone. Gather in ladies! There’s plenty to go around!

Do you believe in love at first sight?

Umm, should all chocolate have a caramel center? Fact: Yes.

Describe the perfect girl?

I don’t discriminate.

And lastly, what's the best way to YOUR heart?

I think we've already covered that. Ice cream. Caramel filled chocolate. Celine Dion. Free love. Also, BBQing.

"Little known fact: Valentine's Day is also known as National Make-Out With Cas Day. So let's celebrate it together!" - Cas, ALTERED

DANTE from The Collector

Title: The Collector (Dante Walker, #1)
Author: Victoria Scott
Publisher: Entangled Teen, 400 Pages (April 2nd, 2013)
Add to: Goodreads
Pre-Order The Collector: Amazon | Barnes and Noble | The Book Depository

Synopsis: He makes good girls...bad.

Dante Walker is flippin’ awesome, and he knows it. His good looks, killer charm, and stellar confidence has made him one of hell’s best—a soul collector. His job is simple, weed through humanity and label those round rears with a big, red good or bad stamp. Old Saint Nick gets the good guys, and he gets the fun ones. Bag-and-tag.

Sealing souls is nothing personal. Dante’s an equal opportunity collector and doesn't want it any other way. But he’ll have to adjust, because Boss Man has given him a new assignment:

Collect Charlie Cooper’s soul within 10 days.

Dante doesn't know why Boss Man wants Charlie, nor does he care. This assignment means only one thing to him, and that’s a permanent ticket out of hell. But after Dante meets the quirky, Nerd Alert chick he’s come to collect—he realizes this assignment will test his abilities as a collector, and uncover emotions deeply buried.

Interview with Dante -

What did you do for Valentine's day?

The usual--sealing the souls of bad girls everywhere. I got a job to do, and there's never a day off for hell's #1 collector. Of course, I get why dudes like V-Day. Their girl's all happy and smiley and touchy. It must be kind of nice. But it's whatever.

What's your idea of the perfect date?

Easy. Being with a girl somewhere quiet. I don't dig the whole crowded scene. If I got a girl, I want her one on one. Maybe a drive-in movie where we're kicking it in my ride. Or maybe just on her couch while her parents (who hate me) are asleep upstairs. Oh, and V-Day is about gifts. Let's not skirt around that. Whatever my girl wanted, she'd get. Anything. There'd probably be flowers involved, too. Girls dig that stuff, no?

Say you're making a Mixed CD for someone special/important to you. What would be on that CD?

A lot of angry, violent music. It is what it is.

Do you believe in love at first sight?

No comment. Maybe. I don't know. No comment.

Describe the perfect girl?

Eff. This mess is hard. Okay, I guess she'd be...alive. Not as in heart beating, although that'd be a plus. I just...I'd want someone who really lived. Someone whose face lit up at the smallest thing, ya know? But it doesn't matter. I'm dead, and I've got a full time job in the fullest of ways. So there's no sense in thinking about crap like that.

And lastly, what's the best way to YOUR heart?

Bacon.

"I'm a self-assured, finger-lickin' delicious demon from hell. And I want to show you how good it feels to be bad. Pick me, doll. You won't regret it." - Dante Walker, THE COLLECTOR

Synopsis: Anna Whitt, the daughter of a guardian angel and a demon, promised herself she’d never do the work of her father—polluting souls. She’d been naive to make such a vow. She’d been naive about a lot of things.

Haunted by demon whisperers, Anna does whatever she can to survive, even if it means embracing her dark side and earning an unwanted reputation as her school’s party girl. Her life has never looked more bleak. And all the while there’s Kaidan Rowe, son of the Duke of Lust, plaguing her heart and mind.

When an unexpected lost message from the angels surfaces, Anna finds herself traveling the globe with Kopano, son of Wrath, in an attempt to gain support of fellow Nephilim and give them hope for the first time. It soon becomes clear that whatever freedoms Anna and the rest of the Neph are hoping to win will not be gained without a fight. Until then, Anna and Kaidan must put aside the issues between them, overcome the steamiest of temptations yet, and face the ultimate question: is loving someone worth risking their life?

Interview with Kaidan -

What did you do for Valentine's day?

~ If I'm being honest, I slept in late and spent the day being pissed off at the world. Then went out with my band mates and got trashed. (Sorry, luvs, honesty isn't always romantic, eh?)

What's your idea of the perfect date?

~ Right then. I don't date. (Again with the honesty.) I mostly meet girls at gigs and pubs and parties.

Say you're making a Mixed CD for someone special/important to you. What would be on that CD?

~ Hahaha...oh wait...you're serious. Okay, someone special. Er...only ever burned CDs for my own self (selfish bloke that I am).  I suppose I'd fill the CD with songs that made me think of said special someone - whether it's lyrics that speak of them, or a tune that seems to play along with a memory I have of them. In other words, the songs would depend on the person.

Do you believe in love at first sight?

~ No. I know I'm breaking all sorts of Valentine's rules by saying this, but I barely believe in love.  However, you can bet your fine backside I believe in lust at first sight.

Describe the perfect girl?

~ As far as physical description I have no perfect girl because I like it all - hair color, eye color, skin color, body type - what's not to like? Variety and individuality are beautiful things.  But as personalities go, I prefer open-minded, "chill" girls who like to have a good time.

And lastly, what's the best way to YOUR heart?

~ Random acts of kindness.  What?  I'm being serious... *winks*

"You can't change a bad boy, so just enjoy him. ~Kaidan Rowe, SWEET EVIL"

Be sure to check back tomorrow to see which one of these amazing book boys I'm spending some time with!

Title: The Boys of Summer (Summer #1)
Author: C.J. Duggan
Publisher: December 17th, 2012, (321 Pages)
Add to: Goodreads

NOTE: Power is a "New Adult" title and is intended for a 18 and older reader due to mature content.

Synopsis: It seemed only natural to nickname them the ‘Onslow Boys’. Every time they swaggered in the front door of the Onslow Hotel after a hard week’s work, their laughter was loud and genuine as they settled onto their bar stools. I peeked through the restaurant partition, a flimsy divider between my world and theirs. I couldn't help but smile whenever I saw them, saw him ... Toby Morrison.

Quiet seventeen-year-old Tess doesn't relish the thought of a summertime job. She wants nothing more than to forget the past haunts of high school and have fun with her best friends before the dreaded Year Twelve begins.

To Tess, summer is when everything happens: riding bikes down to the lake, watching the fireworks at the Onslow Show and water bomb fights at the sweltering Sunday markets.

How did she let her friends talk her into working?

After first-shift disasters, rude, wealthy tourists and a taunting ex-boyfriend, Tess is convinced nothing good can come of working her summer away. However, Tess finds unlikely allies in a group of locals dubbed ‘The Onslow Boys’, who are old enough to drive cars, drink beer and not worry about curfews. Tess’s summer of working expands her world with a series of first times with new friends, forbidden love and heartbreaking chaos.

All with the one boy she has never been able to forget.

It will be a summer she will always remember.

Warning: sexual references, and occasional coarse language.

Excerpt:

Moon rays filtered through the windshield, giving the cabin an otherworldly glow.

Toby’s perfect teeth were illuminated when he smiled. “You know, you are the worst winner!” He shook his head. “Ever since you won the bet, you've been apologizing  Just go with it, enjoy it, because I assure you, next time …” - he leaned closer - “… you will not be the winner.” He pulled back, smug.

I curved a brow. “Next time?”

He nodded. “I fully intend to redeem myself.”

“Want a chance to rebuild your shattered ego, do you? I bet you’re itching to fix my bike so you can be rid of me once and for all.” I shouldered him gently, teasing him as I would Adam. And then I realized what I had done; I had treated him like my friends. He looked down at his shoulder, then up at me. His eyes shadowed with untold meanings that I couldn't read.

“What if I didn't want to fix your bike?” he said in all seriousness.

“Why, is my company so stimulating that you can’t bear the thought of being without me?” I teased nervously.

I was aiming for light and airy, but something must have gone wrong with my delivery because Toby’s face went blank. He looked out into the lights of Onslow, ran his tongue over his bottom lip and sighed.

POWER, Book Tour

Title: Power (The Descendant Trilogy #1)
Author: Theresa M. Jones
Publisher: Theresa M. Jones, 298 Pages (February 2013)
Add to: Goodreads

NOTE: Power is a "New Adult" title and is intended for a 17 and older reader due to mature content.

Synopsis: Thousands of years after the battle between the angels, when Lucifer was defeated by Michael in the Heavens, the war is still being fought on Earth by the humans who have their Power, the Angel’s Power.

Allison Stevens is a 21 year old single mother who gets thrown into the middle of this battle when Damien, the Leader of the Rising, decides to hunt her down and kill her because he fears she is the descendant prophesied to save the world.

David, a member of the Order, takes Allison under his wing in order to show her the ropes, and hopefully groom her into being the one they have been waiting for. The only problem is that they start to grow more attached than a teacher/student relationship should allow.

But that isn’t all. Damien wants to open the Seven Seals and bring about the apocalypse and it’s up to Allison to not only save herself and her family, but save the world, all while trying to keep her heart from breaking.

No problem… right?

POWER is the first book in a New Adult (Mature YA) Paranormal Romance Trilogy and is the debut novel for author Theresa M Jones.

EXCERPT - Part of Chapter One

I fell asleep before I had even covered myself up, just after my head touched the pillow. The dreams that had been haunting me so often left me miserable, exhausted, and craving rest.

My legs trembled as I tried to push myself to go faster. Despite the adrenaline that surged through me and the exertion from every cell of my being, I felt frozen. I shivered and yet was sweating at the same time. Waves of terror pulsed through my every limb.

Where was I going? Where could I go to get away from him? He knows where I am all the time, even though I have no clue as to my own whereabouts.

I slowed, just briefly, to try to catch a good long drag of air hoping it would fill up my lungs and give me strength to continue on. However, instead of the oxygen that I so desperately needed, I breathed in the rank air of pure evil. It was the same foul scent I smelled every time he was close. I could taste it on my tongue.

I could feel him closer now than ever before. Pure horror seeped in and I was running again. To where, I was still unsure.

Just as I could feel myself actually widening the distance between us for once, I slid to a stop. I had almost run into  a huge wall that blocked my path. It was not quite brick, but made of reddish gray stones that were symmetrical in every way. No cracks, no breaks, no holes. A perfect wall. Dark green moss was growing up the wall in many spots, making it slightly slippery and shiny looking. I stood there wondering how a wall like this was built, or rather how it came to be here, right here in front of me, blocking my only escape.

The small amount of moonlight that had been lighting my path suddenly disappeared leaving absolute blackness and the faint smell of damp. I turned. I felt for the wall behind me now as the slimy moss caressed my fingertips.  I heard him walking towards me. As if he realized there was no possible way for me to escape him now.

           Then he stopped.

There was no sight now in this dreadful black, no taste, the wall was somehow no longer touching me, and if it weren’t for his atrocious smell, I might be able to think I had just ceased to exist. But it was the loss of sound that unnerved me the most. The only sound now was my breathing, the ragged gasping noise that cut through me with every breath and reminded me why I had been running in the first place.

That’s when it I felt it. I could feel it first around him, a concentrated evil that spread over the grass and through the air towards me. Like a match to a stream of gasoline, the feeling of hate and anger spread like wildfire. I felt it circling me, searing my skin and burning inside me at the same time. It took away my air. My lungs begged me for oxygen and my eyes burned as tears started to flood down my face.

When I had almost lost myself to the pain, something changed. He felt it the same instant I did. And instead of the hateful, anger-filled, death-like feeling that was surrounding me, I felt hope. It started right in the center of my chest and expanded out through my whole torso, like being dipped in a warm bath after being outside in the snow. It spread down to my toes and up to my head at the same time. A wave of pure hope, love, or… joy! I felt strong and courageous. No, powerful

This new feeling of power poured through me and out through my fingertips, pushing away the dread and hate that had been eating at me, and straight across to the hateful man standing in front of me. I was surprised by the intensity. The force. The strength. I knew that he could feel it too, surging out of me and flowing freely wherever it felt the need to go.

Character Profiles -

Title: Life After Theft
Author: Aprilynne Pike
Publisher: HarperTeen, 352 Pages (April 30th, 2013)
Add to: Goodreads
Pre-order here: Amazon, Barnes and Noble, The Book Depository

Synopsis: Moving to a new high school sucks. Especially a rich-kid private school. With uniforms. But nothing is worse than finding out the first girl you meet is dead. And a klepto.

No one can see or hear Kimberlee except Jeff, so--in hopes of bringing an end to the snarkiest haunting in history--he agrees to help her complete her "unfinished business." But when the enmity between Kimberlee and Jeff's new crush, Sera, manages to continue posthumously, Jeff wonders if he's made the right choice.

Clash meets sass in this uproarious modern-day retelling of Baroness Orczy's The Scarlet Pimpernel.

Two titles today and I have to admit that I've read The Program a couple months ago and it's seriously good. It's so good that I needed the next one right then and there. It's extremely unique and I loved the characters. Keep an eye out for that review soon. The second book, Live After Theft... just sounds way too good to pass up! Private school, a ghost who is a klepto? Yeah, count me in on reading this one.
