Hug Me!

A big hello from a huggable little one...

High fashion going on over here! Today, Sophie is sporting a classic little number from her Grandma Gayle, showing off her girlie-ness and her winning personality.

the purple stripes and pink booties complete the bundled-up-for-a-rainy-day outfit. If you don't like the colour combo, you'll have to suck it up. There are only so many pairs of pants that fit her today, and the other 2 are in the wash.
Today Sophie eats. if you have never had a baby, and you hope to have one and breastfeed them one day let me warn you of an exciting tidbit I knew nothing about. It's called growth spurts. They are my cow days. She eats and I get about 1/2 hour to an hour before I have to feed her again! At the moment she's sleeping happily and i really should take advantage of that and get myself a little catnap.
Catcha later!

She's getting bigger!

Our little girl is a wopping 7.4 pounds. wohoo! We have now collected a pile of clothes that are actually too small for her! She's still so tiny...but to me she feels so big now! chunky little thighs and cheeks and fingers...and we love every inch of her :)

So here's a random blog about just some of the ways life is new and exciting with a not-quite-so-teeny-anymore newborn.

We've been going for walks in the garden. She seems to like being outside. We go for family drives and she gets lulled to sleep in the car. We went in to the hospital for a followup visit with my midwife on friday (when Sophia weighed in at 3.33 kilos). She was wrapped to me in her mobywrap, which we both really enjoy. Here she is with my midwife, Elaine, who helped her out. (yes, it's a pun. I like it. There's a teeshirt we need to get that says "a midwife helped me out." Another one I want to find says "Mummy is my happy meal." good times)

She even likes tummy time! She lifts up her head really well with ever-strengthening neck muscles.

She's been meeting her family a few at a time. Here she is with her great Nana and Granddad Lynam (Dan's maternal grandparents).

She loves her baths. and her dad and I get the feeling that she's going to be a chatty one, like her mama. when she's awake, she's alert and noisy, with all kinds of stories to tell. And asleep or awake, she's a wiggly one!

I dont' know if you can tell from the photos, but since birth her eyes remain true blue... Dan reckons they'll stay that way, but I've a hunch they'll go green. We'll have to wait and see. Her hair keeps getting lighter. Still thick and soft and beautiful, no sign of it falling out yet, fingers crossed! Oh, Dan also reckons she has a Lynam jawline, like him and his mum. Whatdaya reckon?

Sophia is over a month old now. She'll be 6 weeks on Thursday. They say that the first 6 weeks are the hardest. Well, we've only had her home for nearly 4. Sometimes I do get a bit overwhelmed and emotional, but if you've ever met me, you know that's not such a big deal. I've dealt with that all my life. I just have a little cry and life is good again. So far, my daughter seems to be taking after me in that way too.

Sophie sleeps well most nights, for about 3 to 4 hours at a stretch. I get to sleep in most mornings too, so I am getting a good lot of sleep, even if it's in little chunks. (Dad used to love family sleep-in time too...but he's back at work now. The weekends are really nice.)

Most of the time, life is pretty blissful. This is exactly where I'm meant to be, and exactly what I want to be doing, and I'm really enjoying being Mama. Too bad for you I haven't got much time or brainpower left to think of clever things to write! Unless you want to hear a lullabye. I've got heaps of those in my head all the time. that's about it

Oh- the roses. Our yellow rosebush is going nuts. This photo was from last week...it's got about triple that many blooms today. Anybody want a cutting?
And do you see the little new rosebush plant to the left? This one...
That is a gift from Sophie's Nanna - its name is Sophie's Rose. We don't know what colour it is, so that will be a surprise. Already it's taking to its new home really well and putting up some shoots...so if we keep getting the occasional rain as we did yesterday, it should grow along with Sophie. And its colour will be a fun surprised. Stay tuned :)
