About my book and my workshop...

Ciao a tutti!!!
Come forse avrete dedotto dalla mia assenza, il lavoro su questo mio ultimo libro si è dimostrato molto più impegnativo e lungo del previsto, al punto da assorbire tutte le mie energie e distogliermi da ogni altro progetto (collezione di gioielli inclusa, che arriverà non appena avrò terminato questo lavoro).

As you maybe have understood from my absence, the work for this latest book of mine has been harder and longer than I expected, it actually stole all my energies and defeated any other project (including the new jewelry collection, coming up as soon as this work is finished)

Mi sento in colpa per avervi abbandonati così a lungo, anche se so che molti di voi continuano a seguirmi tramite facebook, twitter ed Instagram, dove posto regolarmente e vi ringrazio (lo so, lo so, preferisco anche io il blog, ma i social network hanno il pregio di esser più rapidi ed immediati...ahimè!)...

eng: I feel bad for having abandoned you for such a long time, even if I know that many of you follow me on facebook, twitter and Instagram, and I'm really grateful (I know, I know, I prefer the blog as well, but social networks are quicker and easier to update...sob!)...

Per questo ho deciso, per farmi perdonare, di stuzzicarvi un po' con qualche piccola anteprima del libro a cui sto lavorando...Come vedete si tratta di una storia in costume, yeeeh!

eng: that is why I decided, in order to let you forgive me, to tease you a little with some previews of the book I'm working on at the moment...As you can see it is an ancient story with cosutmes, yayy!!

Purtroppo non mi è concesso dire di più nè mostrare di più...Ma spero comunque di aver stuzzicato ed allo stesso tempo soddisfatto un po' la vostra curiosità ;)

I've finally finished the work on my new book...So I can officially consider myself on holyday!!

ita: Yeeeeeeeeh!!!

Ho finalmente terminato il mio lavoro sul nuovo libro...Dunque posso ufficialmente considerarmi in vacanza!!

..It feels so good, to be able to take my time, finally...I'm going to fly to the south of Italy in a few days, to attend a wonderful illustration course by Gabriel Pacheco at Fine Art Factory (can't wait, can't wait!).

ita: Mi fa davvero bene la sensazione di potermi finalmente prendere il mio tempo...Volerò a Martina Franca fra qualche giorno per frequentare un favoloso corso di illustrazione con Gabriel pacheco alla Fine Art Factory (non vedo l'ora!).

I'll be back here at the beginning of September...I have so many new project ready to start...And I also promised to host a giveaway to celebrate the 2000+ fans on my facebook page!

So be ready, because I will prepare it for you as soon as I come back, together with a buch of other things...I'm already so excited!

Working on a book is sooooooo long and tiring, sometimes you almost can't see the end of it...So now I love the idea of some new fresh projects to work on :)

ita: Sarò di ritorno i primi di Settembre...Ho così tanti nuovi progetti pronti ad iniziare...Ed ho anche promesso di organizzare un giveaway per celebrare il superamento dei 200 fan sulla mia pagina facebook!

Lavorare ad un libro è luuuuuungo e faticoso, a volte non si riesce quasi a vederne la fine...Per questo ora adoro l'idea di dedicarmi a dei progetti nuovi e freschi :)

I still can't show too much of my work on this book...Just some tiny sneak peaks...I'll be able to tell you more after it will come out, in November...For the moment I can only say it's going to be a something like a classic old-fashioned book, illustrated with a modern twist ;)

ita: Non posso ancora mostrarvi molto di più del mio lavoro su questo libro...Solamente alcune piccole anteprime...Potrò dirvi di più dopo l'uscita, a Novembre...Per il momento posso solamente anticiparvi che sarà una sorta di libro classico, vecchio stile, ma illustrato in chiave moderna ;)

Work in progress...

A lot of work and a lot of progress, indeed...That's why it seems like I can never get the chance to come here and write a post as it should be...
But that's really unfair, I think...So you know what?
Let's change the policies in here: Less words (it takes me forever every time to write those long posts in two languages) and a lot more images!!!

We're on an illustration blog, after all, so let's enjoy the visual part of the work (the one that I prefer)!

Below are some very special sneak peaks from the book I'm currently illustrating...I can't reveal much at this stage...But let's just say that it's a book about...

Un sacco di lavoro ed un sacco di corsa, in effetti...Ecco perchè sembra sempre che io non riesca a trovare un minuto per scrivere un post come si deve qui sul blog...
Ma non è per niente giusto, credo...perciò sapete una cosa?
Cambiamo le carte in gioco, qui: meno parole (mi occupa sempre troppo tempo scrivere quei lunghi post in due lingue) e molte più immagini!!!

Siamo su un blog di illustrazione, dopo tutto, perciò godiamoci il lato visivo del lavoro (quello che preferisco)!

Ecco qui alcune piccole anteprime del libro che sto illustrando in questo periodo...Non posso ancora rivelare molto...Ma diciamo semplicemente che si tratta di un libro su...

I bet you're curious like a cat now! I promise I'll reveal more details as the book release approaches (it will be in November 2011, in France).

And now let me spend a couple of words about the illustrating techinique I'm using for this book: graphite pencils digitally coloured with photoshop!
Oh, I'm so falling in love with this techinique!!

And a very nice thing is that it' very easy and quick to take W.I.P snapshots...Here's an example:

Ita: Scommetto che adesso sarete curiosi come delle scimmiette! Prometto di rivelare altri dettagli mano mano che la data di uscita del libro si avvicina (sarà a Novembre 2011, in Francia).

Ed ora un paio di parole riguardo alla tecnica di illustrazione che sto utilizzando per questo libro: mezzatinta a matita colorata digitalmente con photoshop!
Mi sto davvero innamorando di questa tecnica!!

E un aspetto molto divertente è che è davverto facile e veloce fotografare passo-passo la progressione del lavoro...Eccone un esempio:

"7 gatti" presentazione libro e laboratorio per bimbi!

Eccomi qui per un piccolo aggiornamento per segnalarvi tre appuntamenti felini da non perdere :)
Spero che perdonerete questo mio post veloce-veloce...Grandi news bollono in pentola, tra cui un nuovo libro appena iniziato...Ebbene si! ;)
Ma nel frattempo...


In questo mese di Maggio finalmente tutti i gatti fanno capolino e si mettono a pancia all'aria a prendere un pò di questo tanto agognato sole...
Quindi, se siete amanti delle fusa e dei pancini pelosi, vi consiglio di non predervi i prossimi tre appuntamenti per la presentazione del libro "7 gatti", con me e i nostri 7 amici felini!!

Laboratorio per bambini dai 3 ai 5 anni

"Vi sembra facile lavorare come custode a una mostra felina?

E se un gatto si mette a ululare, uno passeggia, uno si pulisce il musetto, due litigano, uno guarda il soffitto e uno vi morsica la gamba... chi riuscirà a indovinare come si chiamano questi SETTE GATTI?"


L'attività consiste in un breve racconto animato della storia "7 gatti" (Zampanera Editore), seguito da un piccolo laboratorio in cui i bimbi dovranno posizionare ognuno dei 7 mici (sagome in cartone) nella gabbia giusta, indovinandone il nome e il colore.
Successivamente potranno colorare dei gatti tutti nuovi del colore che preferiscono, attribuirgli nomi nuovi e posizionarli nella casetta più adatta a loro, aumentando la confusione del povero gestore della mostra felina!

Back to work!! :)

Hallo everyone!!

So...I'm back from an extremely wonderful experience...Ireland's landscapes, people and atmosphere are now forever tattooed deep inside my heart...I miss Galway and all the wonderful people we met there so much...I already can't wait to be back!!

I want show you a small collection of some pictures I took there...And if you want to breath a little bit of that atmosphere I warmly suggest you to listen to this piece...Or this one also...awwww, I feel so nostalgic!

Ok, so now I'd better come back with my feet here in Italy, at least for now, because I have so many wonderful news to tell you!!!

First of all: I got me an agent!!
Hell yeah boys and girls, now I'm officially represented by the Bright Agency...It feels good to have someone to help you trough this illustrated jungle...So now it's time to work on new pieces for my portfolio, following wise and experienced suggestions, looking forward to improve my style...Fingers crossed!!

My new book "Le grand voyage de Tessie" is finally available through bookstores in France and on my editor's website here!!!
But I want to make a special blogpost about this book with lots of pictures as soon as I will receive my copies...I'm so curious to see them as well!!

E così...Sono di ritorno da un'esperienza assolutamente meravigliosa...I paesaggi, le persone e ed il cielo d'Irlanda aora sono per sempre tatuati nel mio cuore...Galway e le persone che vi ho incontrato mi mancano così tanto...Non vedo già l'ora di tornare!!

Voglio mostrarvi una piccola raccolta di foto che ho scattato lì...E se volete respirare un pò della giusta atmosfera, vi consiglio di ascoltare questo pezzo...O anche questo ...awwww, che malinconia!

Ok, ora è meglio che io torni con i piedi a terra qui in Italia, almeno per ora, perchè ho così tante super novità da raccontarvi!!!

Prima di tutto: ora ho un agentet!!

A big stop, some dreamy suggestions, and a little preview :)

Hallo everyone!!
This is probably going to be my latest post before my big holiday break in September: I'm going to spend three weeks with my boyfriend in Galway, Ireland!! ♥

I'm so excited, I can't believe I'll finally see the landscapes of my dreams...This is surely going to be deeply inspiring...Moreover, I'll have the chance to improve my english
(we'll stay in a host family).

I know that September is always the month I'm waiting for to give birth to all my new projects (and I do have a lot, indeed!) but now that my work on my latest book is finally over, I truly feel like I need a break...Even if this will probably mean that some of my new school and stationery products could make their first appearance in my etsy shop in October...Won't you be waiting a little longer?

Not even if I show you the reason of this waiting?

Here it is!

A very special preview for your eyes only: the cover of my book about cats "7 gatti", coming up next year for Zampanera editore, Italy...yayyy!!!

The work on this book has been very fun, and yet a little tricky, because it has been my very first non-scientific illustration experience using designer's gouache: I decided to try this technique mostly because some of my friends and favourite artists use it and...I
hated it! And then I deeply loved it, and then again I hated it, and now....I'm afraid gouache could seriously steal my heart!
I don't think I will ever abandon my usual mixed technique, but the possibilities that gouaches offer are nearly infinite...And now I want to keep on learning and experimenting even more! :)


The feeling that accompanies the end of a long work, like an illustrated album, is always pleasant: someting between pride and -temporary- relax...So I thought it was the case to celebrate it giving myself some gorgeous presents! (Sounds realistic...To be true I only wanted more and more artbooks, as usual! Bwahahaha!!).
By the way, below are my latest purchases, higly reccommended to you all!

This is a VERY special book: a very elegant edition (oh boy, I adore deluxe editions!) holding a true tresure of sketches and drawings by this wonderful artist...I must admit I didn't know her before...But I admit with pleasure that I do LOVE her now!
I adore her mix of cartoon-style characters with their soft bodies and moves with that touch of Art Nouveau...And the way she draws animals!

What can I say?
We all know Rebecca Dautremer...She's so incredibly and wonderfully influent in the world of illustration in this moment...And she deeply deserves it!
I admire this woman with all my heart, and I admire her with that little bit of gealousy an illustrator knows so well: the gealousy you feel towards someone who has reached the goals you wish to reach, the gealousy you feel towards your hero

If you look closely between the pages of this book you'll also discover her sense of humor (something absolutely important for an illustrator, I believe), her doubts and lots and lots of inspiration!!

The feeling it leaves is something like: "Oh God! I still have SO much to learn!!!....Hurray!!"
And you can't help but love it...Being or not an illustrator! :)

Pop Surrealism: What a Wonderfool World

And now, this book is truly something...Not only for the book itself (a beautiful edition indeed) but for what it represents: this is the catalogue of the very first HUGE group show of Pop Surrealism here in Italy!!

I've seen the exhibition in Spoleto last week and I was excited like a child in a candy shop! Looking closely to the tiniest details in those mesterpieces...Joe Sorren, Scott Musgrove, Travis Louie...Even Mark Ryden! Just to name a few...If you ever get the chance to travel down there to Spoleto do not miss this exhibition for nothing on earth...It is even worth organizing a trip expecially to see the show and the delicious city, wich is seriously one to the places I'd love to be living in ♥

And now the point is....Where the heck do I place these new books???
The shelves in my room are litterary about to collapse and crash on my head while I'm asleep...Aaaargh!

This is just a part of my collection of artbooks and other oddities...My bed lies right under those heavy shelves...Uops!
Oh well, at least they always inspire my sweet dreams...

Questo sarà probabilmente il mio ultimo post prima del mio break vacanziero a Settembre: trascorrerò tre settimane con il mio ragazzo a Galway, in Irlanda!! ♥

Sono emozionatissima, non posso credere che finalmente vedrò i paesaggi ed i cieli dei miei sogni...Sarà sicuramente fonte d'inspirazione. In più avrò anche occasione di migliorare il mio inglese (staremo in casa-famiglia).

So bene che Settemre è sempre il mese tanto atteso per dare il via a tutti i miei nuovi progetti (e ne ho molti, in effetti!) ma ora che il mio lavoro per il mio ultimo libro è finalmente terminato, sento davvero il bisogno di prendermi una pausa...Anche se questo probabilmente significherà che i miei nuovi prodotti di cartoleria e per la scuola faranno la loro prima apparizione nel mio etsy shop solamente ad Ottobre, ma....Non avete voglia di aspettarli un pochino di più?
Nemmeno se vi mostro la ragione dell'attesa?

Un'anteprima molto speciale, la copertina del mio libro "7 gatti", in uscita il prossimo anno per Zampanera editore...yeeeeh!!!

Lavorare a questo libro è stato molto divertente, anche se non è stata proprio una passeggiata, poichè è stata la mia primissima esperienza di illustrazione fiction con i colori a tempera: ho deciso di sperimentare questa tecnica soprattutto perchè alcuni tra i miei amici ed illustratori preferiti la usano e...L'ho odiata!
E poi l'ho amata alla follia e poi l'ho odiata di nuovo, e ora....Ho paura che le tempere potrebbero definitivamente conquistarmi!
Non credo che abbandonerò mai la mia abituale tecnica mista, ma le possibilità che le tempere offrono sono pressochè infinite...Ed ora ho una gran voglia di continuare ad imparare e sperimentare! :)

Il sentimento che accompagna la fine di un lavoro lungo, come un albo illustrato, è sempre piacevole: qualcosa a metà tra orgoglio e -temporaneo- relax ...Dunque ho pensato bene che sarebbe stata un'ottima occasione per fare a me stessa dei regali! (Suona realistico...Ad essere sincera avevo solo volgia di nuovi artbooks! Bwahahaha!!).
Ad ogni modo, ecco a voi i miei ultimi acquisti, caldamente consigliati a tutti!

Questo è un libro DAVVERO speciale: un edizione elegantissima (io adoro le edizioni deluxe!) che cela al suo interno un vero tesoro di schizzi e disegni di questa artista meravigliosa...Devo ammettere che non la conoscevo prima...Ma ammetto con piacere di AMARLA adesso!
Adoro il suo mix di personaggi cartoon-style con le loro movenze ed i loro corpi dalle line morbide con quel tocco di Art Nouveau...Ed il modo in cui disegna gli animali!

Cosa posso dire?
Tutti noi conosciamo Rebecca Dautremer...E' così incredibilmente e meravigliosamente influente nel mondo dell'illustrazione in questo momento...E lo merita pienamente!
Ammiro questa donna con tutto il mio cuore, e la ammiro con quella punta di gelosia che un illustratore conosce molto bene: quella particolare gelosia che si prova verso qualcuno che ha raggiunto tutti gli obiettivi che ti sei prefisso per te stesso, quel tipo di gelosia che si prova nei confronti del tuo eroe

Se osservate da vicino tra le pagine di questo libro, scoprirete anche il suo senso dell'umorismo (una cosa fondamentale per un illustratore, secondo me), i suoi dubbi, e un mucchio di spunti e di ispirazione!!

Il sentimento che lascia è qualcosa come: "Oh mamma! Ho ancora COSI' tanto da imparare!!!....Urràààààà!!"
E non potrete fare a meno di amarlo...Che siate illustratori oppure no! :)


Pop Surrealism: What a Wonderfool World

Ed ora, questo libro è davvero qualcosa...Non solo per il libro in sè (una bellissima edizione, in effetti) ma per quello che rappresenta: questo è il catalogo della primissima GRANDE mostra collettiva Pop Surrealista qui in Italia!!

Sono stata alla mostra a Spoleto la scorsa settimana ed ero emozionata come una bimba in un negozio di caramelle! Osservando da vicino i più piccoli particolari di questi capolavori...Joe Sorren, Scott Musgrove, Travis Louie...Persino Mark Ryden! Per nominarne giusto un pò...Se per caso doveste avere la possibilità di fare un giro a Spoleto non perdetevi questa mostra per niente al mondo...Vale la pena anche di organizzare un viaggio solamente per vedere la mostra e la città, deliziosa, che è seriamente uno dei posti dove mi piacerebbe vivere ♥
