Quote of the Day, part XLIV

Me, during Family Home Evening: "How can we repent of 'persecuting your brother'?"
William: "Pick me! I just barely did it!"

Jacob, when I showed him the twin coverlet I had purchased for his bed right before we moved:
"I like that. Whoa, wait! Are we really going to get beds that big?"
Me, thinking that this boy has been sleeping on a camping cot on the floor for entirely too long.
This move didn't come a day too early!

Art Lessons

At the close of sacrament meeting yesterday, I looked over and saw Jacob with his arm around William, trying to console him.  Will was very sad because he couldn't draw monsters very well.  He had been trying all through the meeting and just couldn't get it right.

When we came home Jacob announced he was having a special monster drawing class especially for Will.

Lesson 1: The Lizardworm.  This one especially appealed to Will for obvious reasons.  (Jacob's demonstration drawing you will find on the bottom right.  This was the goal.)

Certificate of Completion for Lesson 1 drawn up by the instructor, filled out by the student.

Lesson 2: The Flying Eyeball (again, demonstration on the bottom right)

Certificate of Completion for Lesson 2.

Lesson 3:  Make Up Your Own Monster--the Final Test
William decided to play it safe and combine the two monsters he had already learned.  He called it simply "Death."  Each version of Death has a different power, he told me.  If you look closely you can see them dropping, squirting and shooting various things.

Certificate of Completion for Lesson 3 and graduation for the course:

These are as good as legal documents to William who has been so happy all day, feeling a new sense of accomplishment and ability.  They now hang on the fridge alongside 100% spelling tests and Student of the Month certificates.

I have always appreciated what a kind and thoughtful brother Jacob is to his siblings.  He is a natural leader and example, and has been a gift to his parents since the beginning.

Sleep

Will said he only wanted a banana for lunch.  I gave him the banana, we said prayers, then I finished making the pb/js.  By the time I had trotted over to the table to serve the other midgets, this is how much he had eaten:
"Will?  Willy, are you there?"
So I carried him bed.  Jimmer (as he is now called by his brothers) and Audrey finished up and I sent them up to bed.  I tidied up from lunch then went to check on them.  Apparently, this one couldn't summon the strength to get all the way there.

And finally, Michael saw this picture that Clara took of her sister and said, "Yikes, isn't that that possessed doll from those horror movies?"
