Aloha!!

What better way to celebrate AJ being done with his 2nd year of law school than to relax in beautiful Maui?!
Hanging out on the beach.
Basking in the sun.
Pina colada in hand... virgin of course.
Without a care in the world.
9 days was definitely not long enough.

After my studious husband had to study for finals for hours on end, Hawaii could not have been a more perfect way to celebrate being done!
Our friends Dylan & Kristen were INCREDIBLY nice enough to let us stay with them.
I am beyond envious of where they live.
Their view is amazing.

The first couple days of our trip were really rainy but we still enjoyed just being able to relax.
One morning we decided it would be a good idea to walk a couple miles to grab breakfast at a place called The Gazebo Restaurant.... NOT a good idea.
It was raining the whole time.
And muddy.
And pretty much miserable.
But I must say that the banana pancakes made the muddy trek worth it.

We spent the rest of the day wandering around the cutest town, Lahaina.
We did a little shopping, ate some delicious smoothies, and did a lot of people watching.
People watching is the best in Hawaii because there are TONS of tourists from all over the world.

That night we decided to go out and catch some waves... no big deal.
Let me just say that Dylan was the best teacher ever!
I actually surprised myself by getting up a few times.
Notice the picture where I look like a monkey... note to self--do not wear a strapless swimsuit while surfing or you will be pulling your swimsuit up the entire time (in an attempt to avoid flashing everyone).
We both had a blast surfing for the first time... it was a definite highlight of our trip.

The next day we hung out at the beach ALL DAY.
It was heavenly.
I had to convince AJ that SPF 4 is NOT adequate sunscreen and that he needed much stronger sunscreen unless he wanted to be in pain for the rest of the week.
But of course, we both forget to put sunscreen on one place... our feet.
We both had sunburned feet all week long. :(

We pretty much indulged in the most delicious food all week long!
Definitely no calorie counting on this trip.

The next day we did something a big extravagant (but something we both REALLY wanted to do).... we went on a helicopter ride!
It turns out the best way to see Maui is via helicopter.
I had my hesitations as to the safety of this adventure.
I am already a nervous flyer as it is.
Before the helicopter ride started, we had to put on our fancy headsets and as soon as we started flying, the Top Gun sound track started playing.
It put me right at ease... NOT.

Honestly, it was one of the highlights of our trip.
The views were absolutely breathtaking.
We were able to see one of the tallest waterfalls in the world nearing almost 1400 feet tall!

There were a few times when it got really turbulent and our pilot said word-for-word, "turbulence just makes the flight even more exciting."
I'm not so sure I agreed with that.
After the helicopter ride, we went to Mama's Fish House for lunch.
Hands down, it was the best seafood I've ever had!
We were seated right on the beach next to the water.
I never wanted to leave.
If I was going to accomplish anything this trip, it was to get AJ to love eating fish.
Believe it or not, I think I was successful!

That same day we drove up above the clouds to the Haleakala crater which is an active volcano that last erupted over 200 years ago.  It was sooo cool!
The crater is 10,000 feet above sea level and is 3,000 feet deep.

The next day we went to the beach again.
I don't think sitting on the beach could ever get old.
We also did some snorkeling which was a lot better than I was expecting it to be.
The fish were beautiful and all different colors!

That night we went to a luau and I have to be honest... we were slightly disappointed.
The entertainment was amazing but the food wasn't quite worth the money.
We tried to drink four pina coladas each to get our moneys worth.

The next day we drove to Hana.... a must if you ever visit Maui.
The actual road to Hana is pretty sketchy.
You are basically driving along a cliff on a super narrow, windy road for hours.

On our way there, we see six huge parrots perched on a fence post on the side of the road so, of course, we had to stop.
All of a sudden a guy pops out of a bush and says, "So, you like my birds?"
AJ and I laughed about that for days.
He offered to let us take a picture with his birds which I couldn't turn down.
My face says it all.

Once we got to Hana, we hiked up to the bamboo forest and the Waimoku Falls which is a giant waterfall.
It was absolutely beautiful!

We ended our long day in Hana at Flatbread Company in the small, granola town of Paia.
It was some of the best pizza we've ever had.
Needless to say, AJ was happy happy happy!

On our last full day in Hawaii, we went to the beach yet again and we hung out at Dylan's parent's house quite a bit. They have a really nice pool area in their yard with a separate beach house that was incredible.
I honestly could have hung out there all day... every day.
While we were at the beach, I got stung by a bee for the first time in my life.
Luckily I didn't have any strange allergic reactions.

The worst part of this trip was having to leave.
Until next time Maui... and believe me, there WILL be a next time!!

A Weekend with Nemo

Although I don’t usually enjoy being cooped up all weekend, I must say this past weekend was really enjoyable and cozy!
Minus the fact that I was husband-less for a day and a half.
I won’t go into too much detail because it still makes me angry to think about… but let’s just say the University of New Hampshire thought it would be a good idea to NOT cancel a law school competition on the day Nemo was supposed to hit.
Nevermind that tons of students had to travel to NH from all over New England….
Nevermind that they all got stuck having to spend the night in a hotel on Friday night because they couldn’t get home!!
Needless to say, I was happy to have my husband back on Saturday evening.
He immediately resumed to his husband duties and shoveled out our car that had been completely covered in snow!! Or as he would say, he went right to work doing “man stuff.”

This is our back parking lot... it shows a progression of the storm.

This is our car 100% buried!!

I also happened to catch my sweet husband in a noble deed helping the lady across the street shovel her car out.  I was a proud wife indeed.  And the bonus was that we benefited greatly from our neighbor’s delicious pumpkin bread.

(In an attempt to not make me appear lazy, I must include the fact that we only own one shovel or else I would have been outside shoveling too.) :o)

I honestly couldn’t believe my eyes when I woke up on Saturday morning and saw over two feet of snow outside!! I was in awe.
It was so beautiful and overwhelming all at once.
The coolest part of it all for me was seeing everyone come outside on Saturday after it had stopped snowing and shovel together, walk around in the middle of the street since nobody was allowed to drive at this point, and just get to know their neighbors.  It’s fun to see communities come together and help each other out when things like this happen.

This is what our front door looked like while the storm was still going strong.

This is a view of our street... we apparently weren't the only ones with a buried car.

Since we were pretty much snowed in all weekend (our car was literally stuck in our parking lot due to a 6-foot wall of snow that our management company “tried” to plow), I was able to do plenty of baking, reading, cleaning and lounging.  I must say it was a very different weekend for me since I’m usually running around trying to get all of my errands done.  It was peaceful and calm… I loved it.

Now it’s back to real life!

2013 is going to be a good year... I can feel it.

Happy New Year!

I must say that I have never been able to relate when people say, “I survived the holidays” or “I made it through the holidays.”  Maybe that’s because I absolutely LOVE the holidays—it’s my favorite time of year.
I totally understand that things get hectic and crazy… and everyone is rushing to get their shopping done.  But that is the fun part for me—I love making yummy holiday foods, shopping for gifts, going to parties, etc.
But most importantly, I love how happy I feel during Christmas time as a result of focusing more on Christ.
It's a time of year when I truly feel like things are in order and I have my priorities straight.

AJ and I were lucky enough to go home this Christmas to be with our families!
We spent Christmas in AZ with AJ’s family and New Year’s in UT with my family.
It was quite the contrast coming from sunny, warm AZ to snowy, cold UT.
I loved it though!
I loved being able to escape the cold and feel the warmth on my skin for a few days and then go sledding in fluffy snow you can only get in UT the very next day.
We definitely ate our fair share of Mexican food this trip.
You just can’t get the same quality of Mexican food in Boston so we pretty much gorged ourselves in the 12 days we were gone.
That includes multiple trips to Café Rio of course.

I also got to go to a very good friend's wedding while in UT.
It was amazing!!
The bride, the groom, the reception center, the actual wedding, the dress... it was all gorgeous.

Bachelorette Party

While we were in AZ, we took some family pics.
Our photographer was adorable and made it so much fun.

We have been very blessed in 2012.
It's been a really good & challenging year at the same time.
I  can confidently say everything has worked out the way it’s supposed to and I’m grateful for that.
This year I have decided to choose a theme that ties all of my New Year’s resolutions together… the theme I have chosen is: Be Positive.
In a nutshell, I want to enjoy the little things every day in my life, be happy, and choose not to complain.
I want to be less angst-filled for whatever is supposed to come next, and simply enjoy the here and now.

 Sure do love these kiddos.

Can't get enough of that face!

A Memorable Thanksgiving

This year we decided to go to New York to see the Macy's Day Parade on Thanksgiving with some friends!
We kind of made the decision on a whim a month or so ago.
I'm not going to lie... there was a moment the night before we left when we questioned our decision to go.
We knew we were going to be sitting in traffic for hours and hours to get there...
and fighting crowds of people....
and having to wake up super early on Thursday morning....
and not really knowing where we were going to eat Thanksgiving dinner yet...
but there was no way we were backing out.
And let me tell you... we are SO glad we decided to go!!
We had the BEST time!
The parade was absolutely magical.
It is now going to be a tradition in our home to always watch the parade on TV and remember exactly where we stood and how excited we were to be there.
Seeing the parade in person was like being in Disneyland... everyone was so happy and it seemed as though nothing was wrong in the world.
I loved it.

 Jimmy Fallon

As you can see... I didn't know this picture was being taken. Everyone else looks cute though!

Turns out we do still use bayonets...

My favorite float... it was so pretty!

Santa!!! Best way to end the parade!

Our dear friends Kyle & Russanne... why do you have to leave us in 3 weeks?? :o(

Sorry for the picture overload. I had a hard time choosing my favorite pics.
