Gifted Gorgeous July - a very special gift

Gifted Gorgeousness is a great SAL organised and hosted by Jo at Serendipitous Stitching. It's always nice to give or receive a gift and Jo's SAL highlights just how generous stitchers are :)

I have been working on a very special gift and my previous monthly posts have been a little light, however I can now reveal my latest project. It's not been that easy to stitch, for some reason I kept miscounting and being one stitch out so Mr Frog sat permanently on my shoulder !!

The gift was for our daughter Philippa who graduated last Monday from the University of South Wales with a first degree in Sport Management and an additional Outstanding Performance Award. It was a very wet but very enjoyable day.

Such a great day :)
This year my theme  for my Christmas Tree at church is 'Joy to the World'. Thank you to everyone who's offered to stitch an ornament - when we arrived home from Wales there was a lovely parcel waiting. Nadine has stitched two beautiful ornaments, thank you Nadine. Now I have finished my big project I can get on with my own Joy stitching along with catching up with the monthly challenges on Needlecraft Haven.

Thank you for calling by - have a great summer x x

Stitch from Stash June 2015

It's the last post for part one of Stitch from Stash 2015 hosted by the lovely Mel at Epic Stitching. It's been a great 6 months and I am very pleased with my limited spend :)

My budget carried forward from May is: £190.98

Month: June
Spent: £8.99
Earned: £4.00

My budget at the end of June and Part A of Stitch from Stash SAL is: £210.99

I have not done much stitching this month really and I certainly have not stuck to my rotation plan. I have a secret project to do and it's is giving me so much trouble. It's a lovely design and I have used the fabric before but I have had to do so much frogging as I keep being one stitch out. I have no idea what is going on, in over 30 years of stitching I have never had such trouble.

Anyway my first finish is the May Monthly Challenge on Needlecraft Haven. It's a lovely freebie design by Ajisai Press' Warm Winter Collection - it's called Woolly and Cosy. I have yet to make it up though. I earned £2 for this finish.

May Challenge
My other finish is my second Joy ornament for my church tree. It was a freebie from Kissy Cross and is called 'Joy'  I also have to make it up. I earned £2 for this finish.

Joy Ornament 2
I have really enjoyed this SAL - I did last year too - and I'm looking forward to taking part in Part B with a little more stitching . Thank you to everyone who has visited my blog over the last six months and a special thank you to everyone who left a comment, they are always so nice to read, thank you :)

Gifted Gorgeousness June

Gifted Gorgeousness is a year long SAL hosted by the lovely Jo. It's not such an easy SAL as gifts cannot be shown until they are given hee hee - I have one such project on the go at the moment.

However I have a few things to share this month. Firstly my Earth Sampler, which is progressing slowly but is looking good. It does need an iron as it's been folded away whilst we've been on holiday.
Earth's Sampler
My other gifts are two more scissor fobs - one for my friend Niki and the other for a fellow stitcher Hazel.
Scissor fobs for Niki and Hazel
I started my second ornament for church at the Meet Up and I managed to finish it whilst on holiday - I need to make it up now.

Church Ornie number 2
That's all my stitching news, hopefully I'll have a bit more to report for SFS later this month. We had an amazing holiday - my Aimetu's blog is full of photos if you'd like a read

Thanks for calling by, I hope you've all had a successful GG month :)

Spring Meet Up

It was just about spring for our meet up - 30th May is the latest we've ever held the Needlecraft Haven Get Together. It was another great day, it is always so nice to meet in person and have a day dedicated to stitching.

The venue this time was our Scout Headquarters - ironic really as this is where I held the first meet ups I organised with Angie - I think the first one was 2004 !! It's a good sized room, great light for stitching. It was lovely to be able to sit around one big table and have free use of the kitchen for making tea/coffee.

Julie, Lindsay and Lynn drove over (Lynn and her hubby made it a weekend and stayed overnight locally). The HQ is not far from the town centre so it was easy to pick up Jane, Angi and Gill who came by train (although Angi and Gill had a delayed arrival).

It was also good to have more room to show our work - I took quite a few finishes that I have not actually made into anything, and looking at them (and more in the cupboard) I really should. Everyone's work is so lovely, we are certainly a talented bunch. It was interesting to see all the different finishes for the monthly ornaments too.

My french Marquoir still needs framing too

Julie's amazing variety of craft work

Angi's gorgeous work including her 'Bee' from
her Autumn Meet Up Goody Bag
As always we had a Goody Bag exchange - this time the theme was the Rainbow. We had to chose one colour from the rainbow and all the items in the bag had to be that colour. The contents of the bag can be stitchy and non-stitchy with a minimum value of £5. It seemed an easy theme but surprisingly tricky for some colours. We had three yellow bags, two red and one green.

I chose yellow and many of the items came from my stash or I found as sale/offer bargains in town. I did initally think pink but haha that's not a rainbow colour although it is in the song;

red and yellow and pink and green,
orange and purple and blue
I can sing a rainbow, sing a rainbow
Sing a rainbow too

I'm sure you know it but if you don't click here to enjoy !!That song will stay in your head now - but it's a nice one :) Jane picked my yellow bag and I picked Lindsay's green bag - both picked at random using my cupcake raffle. I tried to bake multi-coloured cakes this year but only baking a small number of cakes did not give me much mixture to divide and colour - the taste was good which is all that matters really !

The book exchange is always fun too - the trouble is I always want to read the one I've bought. I have plenty on my shelves that I have yet to read but don't want to give them until I've read them. I think I need to add reading time into my rotation or daily routine. I try to read in bed, morning or night but I either fall asleep or feel stiff; this needs serious thought !

Needlecraft Haven is a lovely forum to chat on - everyone is friendly and so much craft work to share. As it's a Yuku forum it does have ads which can be annoying. Members do donate to make the forum ad free ($6 minimum which covers 1 month). At each meet up we have a raffle to help. Everyone brings small raffle prizes and the money taken pays for ad free months - this time we raised enough for 5 months ad free - quite good for just 7 of us, and of course we all had raffle prizes to take home!

I did some stitching at the meet up - I started my second ornament for the church tree. It's an online freebie from Kissy Cross on Pinterest. I'm just doing the bauble, she has some gorgeous designs.

Joy ornament number 2
On  personal note the meds have improved my walking, I'm certainly not so slow and even danced twice at a party on Saturday night. I am still slow at stitching and feel a bit woozy from taking the meds but it's getting better each day. Yesterday we went to Leicester to the King Richard III's visitor centre as it was my Mum's birthday and I didn't need to hold onto Hubby to walk around. This feels really good, especially as we're off to France on Friday for 10 days holiday.

And a HUGE thank you to everyone who donated to my Cake Bake - either in person or online. The online raffle is now closed and the name picked to win the LHN Baked Goods chart was .... Mary !! I'll post the chart to you soon :) The total raised has now reached nearly £300 which is incredible - thank you x x

Stitch from Stash in May

It's report time for SFS15 - Stitch from Stash is a great SAL organised and run by the lovely Mel at Epic Stitching. It's month 5 in our 6 month SAL, I can't believe how quickly it's going.

My budget carried forward from April is: £153.98

Month: May
Spent: £zero
Earned: £12

My budget carried forward to April is: £190.98

My stitching seems to have slowed down, well on paper but I am mainly working on big projects. Santa's Tablecloth will be a long long project (it's looking like 10 years minimum haha) and my other three main pieces are a reasonable size;

Earth's Sampler (The Primitive Needle)
and a secret project.

I do have two finishes this month, firstly the Friends Count (Victoria Sampler) bookmark I stitched for a friends's birthday. She was delighted with the gift, it is a lovely item to stitch and easily personalised. I earned £4 for this finish.
50th Birthday gift
I finally finished the snow on Santa's Sleighworks - I've used some silver to bring the snow alive a little as just white looked a little flat on the large tablecloth. I'm quite a way through adding the snow on Santa's Stocking Store which I'm hoping to finish in June. I only stitch on this on a Wednesday night and being stitched over one some nights I don't get very much done. I earned £8 for this finish.

Last month I claimed for completing the March and April Monthly Christmas Challenges on Needlecraft Haven. All my finishing items were from my stash :)

March Challenge - Kissy Cross
April Challenge - Balades et Broderies
My secret project is growing well, as is Earth's Sampler. My December piece is at a stop just now as I need to buy more DMC 934. I am going into town later today so I know already that next month will not be a zero spend haha, although I may do an online order with Sew and So and then it will definitely not be zero !!
Earth's Sampler

A huge thank you to everyone who supported my MS Cake Bake - all the final details are in my Aimetu Blog

The total amount of cash raised with my baking orders and the coffee day was £235 and my online Just Giving page is currently at £36. My raffle takes place on Sunday so I'll be able to have a final overall count by then but I am amazed and so grateful to all my friends and family :)

On a health note I have just finished a short course of meds as my own MS symptoms were affecting me. My legs finally feel better which is why I'm off to town later, the first time on my own for quite a few weeks.

On a much happier note it's Needlecraft Haven Meet Up on Saturday - a little later than usual and a new venue but it's always a fun day and a fantastic chance to meet, stitch and chat :)

Thanks for calling by - have a great weekend wherever you are, whatever you're doing :)

May Gifted Gorgeousness and Cake Bake

It's time to post Gifted Gorgeousness, a great SAL organised by the lovely Jo. GG is a chance to stitch anything that's for a gift or that we've received as a gift.

This month I have stitched the Victoria Sampler 'Friend's Count' bookmark for a friend who has a significant birthday early in May. I changed the text to her birthday. I was very pleased with it.

Birthday Bookmark
I have added a little more to Earth's Sampler and to my other gift piece but as that's a secret I can't share just yet. Here's my Primitive Needle progress.

Earth's Sampler
That's all my stitching for now - I haven't done much lately as I have been beading and baking. Here's a few more scissor fobs I've made - they are all gifts.

Scissor fob gifts
My baking is also 'gifted' as it has been for my Multiple Sclerosis Cake Bake - I posted about it last Saturday and the actual Cake Bake was yesterday. I have made 10 large cakes for orders so far - two more went out today, and I have 5 more to bake next week.

I'm also offering LHN Baked Goods as a prize in an online raffle - thank you so much to everyone who has donated so far - the draw is 31st May.

Yesterday our house was buzzing with friends calling round for coffee and cake - such a lovely atmosphere and so nice to see everyone. I had made a Schokogugelhopf as the prize for a blackout game and had a small raffle too. I had baked quite a few cakes and my friend brought along some homemade flapjacks.

Cake Bake 2015

Not a stitching post - it's Cake Bake time. Every year the Multiple Sclerosis Society have a fundraising Cake Bake day. I've done this a few times, mainly when I worked at school selling cakes to the staff at break and lunch time.

This year I'm hosting a Cake Bake at home on Thursday 14th May

Our house will be open 10am til 6pm for friends and neighbours to pop by for a cuppa and a piece of cake. I've been given some gifts too for a raffle and there was a blackout card game in the fundraising pack from the MS Society so I'm baking a Schokogugelhopf as the prize.

Schokogugelhopf
As well as making cakes for the day I've been taking orders for large cakes. These are for collection between 6th May and 20th May as I cannot bake them all at the same time as well as baking for the Cake Bake day. I've made three orders so far and have another 10 ordered :)

Coffee and Walnut Cake - order 1
Victoria Sponge Cake - order 2a
Chocolate Guinness Cake - order 2b
(wrapped in foil ready to go)
I love making cakes and people seem to like my baking so really this is a win-win day for everyone.

I am having to be careful though as my own MS symptoms have been playing up since January. I am struggling to walk outside the house and feel quite tired after doing just small things. Baking is good as I can mix the cake, sit for a rest whilst it's in the oven and decorate it later (or even the next day). If things don't improve I may need a course of meds but I keep hoping tomorrow will be better hee hee

I was given Little House Needleworks 'Baked Goods' as a gift a while ago and will have it our on display at my Cake Bake (even though it's a Christmas one)

Baked Goods
I've also set up a Just Giving page as I wanted to include my friends who live too far away to enjoy my baking. I'm offering the LHN chart as a prize - for every £1 donated I'll put your name into the draw and will pick the winner on 31st May.

I'm very humbled at my friend's generousity already - thank you x x

Pour a coffee and cut a slice of cake on Thursday 14th May with me  - thanks for calling by :)
