After being in operations and maintenance, i realised that it is important to be skeptical, but with an open mind. Meaning yes it is ok to question if certain methods will work etc. But keep an open mindedness and allow it some benefits of the doubt if you are not certained that it will fail (if its not life and death issue). Like sometimes, when we are unsure and threading into new grounds, we can only build our own experience by trying.
Not because it failed once it will keep failing. Most of the things isnt as simple as yes and no.
For example, if you tried your hands at bowling once and you sucked at it terribly, doesnt mean u arent meant for bowling? Perhaps your technique is wrong, or your footing, or the ball you use is too heavy, floor not waxed enough etc etc. Ok this isnt exactly the best analogy..and i dont mean that whenever smthing doesnt work out..u start blaming the whole world either.
But i realised that the older bosses seems to be unaccepting.Whenever the design team tries out something once and it fails, they will deem that it will fail forever. And i find that rather unconstructive. Like we should take the opporuntiy to learn why something fails, is it a location specific issue, material issue, supplier issue, workmanship issue etc.
Design team and maintenance team must work together hand in hand so that they can learn about the constrains and issues, and progress to design and build greater stuff!
