busy day!
met up with zhuang and michelle for tea/coffee.
was nice catching up, though its a pity the whole affair was so rushed :(
then met up with shenglong and mag for dinner at miss clarity cafe.
a very pink place.
the main course was alright, but the bread and butter pudding was fantastic hehe :)
we walked around raffles city to kill time then they went home whereas i went to xen.
was nice to finally get to talk to mag properly after just saying hi a couple of times. :)
there was a party at xen for the students, and there were 2 performances.
plus we celebrated 2 birthdays!
so a lot happened in a short time so it was worth going down :)
plus i got to dance with all the lovely ppl there. didn't dance much cos it was so crowded nd the dj kept playing bachata. nothing wrong with that of course, just that i don't really like bachata. but a lot of ppl do, and i quite enjoy just watching, so its all good.
and ranjan was there too!
so he gave me a lift to union sq quite late.
yay :) or else i have no idea how i would have gone there.
started off dancing with familiar ppl, such as yichuan, so that was fun :)
then i danced with some guy, but the song was really really long so i was really sweating at the end of it. not that it wasn't a good dance of course.
then i was glad when the dance ended so i could rest, but another guy asked me to dance.
they have names of course, but i just can't remember :(
and behold, it was yet another tremendously long dance. his lead was good, and it was fun dancing with him, just that it was such a long song!! so i was rather tired.
and when i'm tired i can't do shines, cos the brain does not want to function, and he kept breaking into shines. nothing wrong with that la, just that i was tired.
then i rested for a bit, and discovered that Sol (who is still in sg! surprisingly) had packed his bag, put on his glasses and seemed ready to leave.
boo. i hoped to get to dance with him.
then suddenly a bachata came on, and he danced with this girl!
i was like 'yay!'
so after the bachata i asked him for a dance.
and so we danced, and a lot of ppl were watching, so it was quite stressful ah.
but the most stressful thing was.... he danced on2!!
he didn't even ask "on1 or on2" like he did last time- he just went straight to on2.
and i was so tempted after the first few eights to say "can switch to on1?" but then i didn't dare. and i decided that it would be good practice (see harry- i'm trying!)
so i danced on2 with Sol!
went quite well i think. cos his lead is really clear- i think it was better dancing on2 than on1 with him. maybe cos i was forced to concentrate more. dunno!
but it was fun cos he did all these complex variations involving dramatic dips. one dip came after a multiple shennay turn, which i was so worried i wouldn't be able to complete cos i don't usually turn that many rounds. but thankfully i didn't fall :)
another dip had isolations incorporated- that was amazing.
the worst part of the dance came when he went into the t-stance. thats when the guy holds
both my hands and expects me to shine. i hate hate hate that. :( :(
i'm just not comfortable with shining in that position cos most of the shines involve some seductive move i don't like. hopefully someday i'll learn some nice shine in that position.
but i digress.
so after i did some random rubbish in the t-stance shine, i couldn't get out of the shine!!
like i was trying to signal to him that i was done with the shine, and there was some miscom, so he ended up exiting the shine at some strange time so i was caught by surprise. so that was rather unglam.
but all in all a few ppl told me afterwards that the dance went well so YAY :)
another nice dance was with jason, who said "this song can do a lot of things one"
and he was right!
it was a good song- so many ways to play with the music.
unfortunately i have no idea wat the title is.
anw.
it was fun cos we somehow decided to hit the accents at the same time quite often.
(and i've never heard the song before! i think)
i love it when that happens man. makes the whole dance so much more interesting- instead of some variation exercise.
but of course as wh said, follow first, styling second (see i remember :) )
so all in all it was one of the best nights i've had at union in a long long while.
maybe also cos i've learnt to be less worried abt what other ppl think. think thats mainly psychological.
met up with ivan khoo today.
someone is well on his way to becoming a doctor.
hearing abt his life now gives me an idea of what could have been, had it been God's will.
but i'm happy with the path i've chosen.
i've been blessed with so much, i shouldn't complain.
the band played Besame Mucho at union sq just now.

went home, went online, booked my plane tix to sweden (yes i'm off to sweden next week!)
then wanted to go to bed.
but i got a nice little msn msg from enlin "i need to tell u sth impt"
that one line just sent a chill though my heart.
and she happily made me wait for 5 mins before picking up my phone call to tell me what it was.
woman please hoh don't ever do that to me again.
ended up chatting till 6 am, and feeling clearer, yet more confused than ever.
but i do thank you for being there dear :)
i kept asking God why.
then i did quiet time.
and the passage for the day was Luke 12:22-34.
i've never felt that passage speaking to me as strongly as it did that day.
"Do not set your heart on what you will eat or drink; do not worry about it. For the pagan world runs after all such things, and your Father knows that you need them. But seek his kingdom, and these things will be given to you as well. Do not be afraid.."

went for enlin's bday party after that- a posh, romantic affair on a rooftop terrace restaurant gently lit by tealights.
no photos of that, unfortunately, cos they are all with aiping.
the first 21st bday party i've gone to this year.
not counting my own, 2 weeks in advance of the real day.
was nice to finally be part of one of those 21st bday celebrations that i keep reading about in blogs.
(at last.. after missing so many by being out of s'pore)
i thought the night went quite smoothly.

went to xiaoen's house to hide along with abt 30 other ppl-
her family, mg classmates and church friends.
it was really fun :)
we switched off all the lights and hid in a room.
then jianen brought xiaoen home, and she was greeted by a huge white board that declared "happy birthday xiaoen!"
followed by all of us screaming "happy birthday!" and pouring out of the room (still in darkness)
then her parents brought out the birthday cake and we sang the birthday song, at which point someone turned on the lights and we could all see her expression clearly :)
and of course all of that was recorded on video by yours truly for my dear friend to watch, keep and remember how many ppl love her :)

last day of work
woohoo!!
ran a protein gel in the morning, transferred, then went for lunch at holland v with some of my collegues.
all the lovely ladies i've had the pleasure of learning from.
all of them have taught me much- from how to pipette viscous solutions, clear wells in gels and seed cells evenly, to relationship skills, humility and kindness.
thank you all :)
went to xenbar at night.
finally went for yq's classes again.
i do miss going for her classes.
walked past a shop selling lanterns!
MAF is coming up.
part of me wants to go back to the uk.
where i'll be suitably distracted/occupied with school work, CF stuff and cookouts.
where i will be free of the reminders that just keep popping up.
where i can be more grounded and purposeful, instead of being in this strange, pseudo-holiday state.
where i can move on with life.
part of me wants this holiday to stretch on longer.
cos i can be with my family and close friends.
but i feel so out of place sometimes.
most of the time.
felt so at ease at the CF BBQ last night, so comfortable amongst all the camb ppl.
stark contrast to union sq just 2 nights before that, where i just felt that i couldn't fit in.
in short, i feel displaced.
