when i first saw the purple solid, i thought it was Cr / Fe / Mn
then in the end there was blue ppt and pink ppt(refer to above pic)
so i decided that it had to be Cobalt
cos of the blue colour
but i wasn't sure
plus that chicken insists that it is Mn (after the exam lah)
anw
cobalt carbonate is pink, hence the pink ppt
and then cobalt (II) hydroxide is bluish green, according to some website, hence the blue ppt
when SCN was added the dark purple was so pretty :)
looks like KMnO4 only nicer :)
been spotting cobalt since sec 4 and it never came out.
so this time i decided not to study cobalt
and then it came out

then interviewer, Dr Findlay, was really friendly
so it wasn't too bad

which is really a huge blessing
though i didn't know it then
it went ok.. did everything.. table.. graph calculation.
then i turned over and continued.
then i realised that we need to plot lg(1/T2 -- 1/T02 )
i plotted (1/T2 -- 1/T02 )
and my table was wrong too
and i had 3 mins left
and i panicked
panic is an understatement
i almost cried
so i erased the whole graph
changed the values on the table
redrew the axis
then...
"times up... change over"

so we changed over
and then i spent 10 mins drawing the graph and calculating the new gradient
which ended up positive when it was obviously supposed to be negative
panic.
so i gave up and went on to qn 2
and i started 10 mins later than everyone else
so some teacher walked by and looked at me
but i ignored him

i chionged through the whole thing
then in the end
i had 15 mins left
so i went back and did qn 1
and i finished on the dot
really really thank God helping me through
and through it all i was thinking of the sms nette sent me:

ever since i've entered hc, one of the things that seriously bothers me is the liberal way in which ppl use the word "shen" or "God".
examples: "Bio shen" or "oh my god!"

of course, they probably don't mean much harm by it, and are just saying it in jest.
one might even go as far as to say that they are trying to complement the recipient of their address when they confer the title of "chem shen" (or similar) on someone.
so it is all done with the kindest of intentions.
but that does not discount the fact that it is pure blasphemy of the highest order when the name of God is used in such an indiscriminate manner.
at least from my point of view.

we are all given the freedom of speech- we can say whatever we want
and the above verse is from the Bible (3rd Commandment), so one can argue that only Christians need adhere to it.

but watever it is, it saddens me greatly to hear ppl using God's name in such a disrespectful fashion.

this post isn't directed at anyone at all- i'm just putting down sth that has been disturbing me for quite some time.
and i don't hold anything against anyone who uses the words "shen" or "God" inappropriately either.
for i am not perfect as well (though i can safely say that i have never called a mortal "shen" before, and i've never said "oh my god" either)
so who am i to judge what others say?

therefore i'm just ranting.
if i've offended anyone, my deepest apologies
this is neither met to insult, nor to correct.
it is just my opinion of things
for i'm entitled to my views too :)

fun day today
went to jia fa's house for com meeting

then we had a bbq at night
xiao en xinyi and i helped to skewer the marinated chicken, which was purchased from...

so we were quite full in the end
and went up to the reading room to talk
so nice :)
3 of us in a nice cold cold air con room with cozy chairs just talking about anything
then we wanted to play truth or dare with the younger ones
but decided that it would be a bit awkward
and i was too lazy to carry out any dares
so it became truth or truth
and then xiao en said "huh play wat.. watever u wanna know just ask lah"
then someone said " wat is there to ask.. we know everything liao"
how true.
and we confirmed that we were best friends
haha
it may seem like a childish thing to do, but it really is the affirmation and the reassurance that we get out of it and that mutual, unspoken agreement that we'll always be there for each other that is really comforting

exciting day

went to 6th ave with ying today after sch
to try to study
saw 2 bunches of pple walking into guthrie house- the 76 ppl and the 78 ppl
the former went to venezia, the later went to coffee bean
but both didn't see us
lousy :p
it was relatively uneventful
until i went to the toilet for the 3rd time (efficient kidney + ADH-deficiency)

on the way back, i saw Siti (pri sch classmate!) sitting by the window in venezia
so of course i had to go in to talk to her
she introduced me to the guy with her- this friendly nj guy named haslim (i think)
so we started chatting for like 10 mins
then suddenly ivan popped up ("hi lao ban niang")
me: oh hi!
haslim (split second later): hey hi!
someone: eh how did u know him?
so it turned out that both haslim and ivan were from ACS i and they both knew each other.
then ivan left

and my conversation with siti resumed
since i was sitting with my body facing the glass panel, i would see everyone who was walking by
and then suddenly i saw jacinta (mg fren!) with another ac girl
like wow!
haven't seen her in ages loh
and then of course she came into venezia
us (together): hug
us (together): ahh! haven't seen u for so long!!
us (together) :yah!! howareyouwhatareyoudoinghere?
me : came here with ying.. and met my pri sch friend here! (gestures)
jacinta: oh ok.. (walks over to where siti was sitting) hi!
siti:oh hi!
me: -stunned-
so it turned out that they were classmates in acjc too!talk abt a small world

so i went back to simply bread where ying was (attempting to) study
and she told me that while i was gone, mel fam (mg classmate!) swept in to buy something and swept out again. but not before leaving a note on my chem wksheet "hi nez!" and a little drawing of a benzene ring- complete with a smiley face in the centre of the ring of delocalised electrons :)
too bad i didn't get to meet her
haven't seen her for ages!!

then ying decided to go to the toilet
and dawn phang (mg dance senior!) came in, bought something and left- after we had a short short conversation sounding sth like "watareyoudoinghere...studying.. As.. allthebest..."

wowee
then jacinta came to simply bread just to say bye (so nice :) )
but we ended up talking for another half an hour haha
miss talking to mg girls
so fun
then we were comparing life in ac and hc (the difference!)
after which we decided to leave before the tub of icecream jacinta was carrying melted

a thoroughly enjoyable time :)

plus i got poor yijin all muddled up when i smsed him "mugging in coffee bean?" and "finished mugging liao ah..k seeya" when he went to coffee bean and when he left
haha he thought i was stalking him lah
and came up with several (wrong) hypotheses on how i could have known where he was and wat he was doing
cos he failed to realise that simply bread was right beside coffee bean
hehe moral of the story: don't think too cheemly :)

and to top it all off, there were two cute guys sitting opposite me in the bus on the way home today :)
both had vvvshort hair (a la suhan), nice bods and tanned skin so they were prob NS guys
i was sitting on the (backwards) seat facing the rest of the bus
and at some pt along the bus ride they came on the bus and sat on the seat behind the one opposite mine
but i didn't know cos i was staring out of the window and stoning (as usual)
then i decided that the view outside was boring and turned to face back of the bus instead.
and then i found myself looking at a supercute guy who was looking straight back (cos if u are on a bus and u look forward, you'll end up looking at the head of the person infront of you- but there wasn't anyone in front of him)
anyway
so i and to avert my gaze to.. the guy beside him...
who was even cuter!

i love the part where zhao min was hidden in the grass and ziruo asked wuji who he loved most out of the 4 (!) (beautiful) women who loved him
then wuji spent 5 min beating around the bush
and finally
zirou: shi bu shi zhao min?
wuiji: mei cuo
(so sweet right.. but i agree with xiaoen- he should have said her name himself!)
then he professed "profound, undying love for her"
so sweet
too bad she was hidden and he couldn't say it to her
but i think the best part was when he described how he felt when zhao min ran away

and the part before that when he discovered that xiexun was missing and blamed her, but ended up embracing her instead when he realised how much she sacrificed for him.

i do not like dogs.
especially those that are 1. big, growling and baring their teeth. 2. skinny, wild and barking their heads off. 3. small, white, with super long hair, and whose pictures are usually found on cheap bookmarks with meaningless english phrases.

cos they are so adorable

i discovered it when oiying was reading the mag during chem lect
i totally fell in love with that thing so i took a picture of it with my phone. yay :)

and i saw a really adorable dog today too!
medium sized, bright-eyed with cream-coloured fur and.. get this.. a brown patch over its eye! a la panda bear.. only that fur around one eye, not two, is brown.
reminded me of the hmv dog at once.
saw the dog when i went jogging today.
yes, i finally got off my lazy ass and attempted to remove excess adipose tissue from my body accumulated over weeks of slacking and not exercising.

the prelims have been a disappointment for me.
i guess this is what ppl mean when they say that one has to take failure in one's stride.
by failure, i mean failure to achieve the goals i set out for myself.
on the surface, by looking at my grades, ppl may think that i did well and scold me for being disappointed.
which is, of course, a natural reaction.
but then my grades for the sciences have dropped from BT2.
which is the main reason why i'm upset.
and phy- mrs tan and mr quek reminded me that i'm expected to have done better.
i know.
but i didn't.
i'm sorry.

went to watch the abovementioned movie this afternoon
i mean how can i not.. after the rave reviews i got abt it from xiaoen and liwei

it was such a moving show
could feel tears welling up behind my eyelids everytime the boy sop, Monhange, sang
he really has a wonderfully beautiful voice
and an angelic face to boot
though i don't understand a word of wat he was singing, his melodious, crystal clear voice was really amazing

was sorry when he stopped singing
when all of them stopped singing, that is
and the part when they sang to see their supervisor off was so sad lah :(
and Penipot is so adorable! so super cute

over the past few days, this particular cheng yu kept popping up in my head
not surprising, really, since it is rather reflective of how i feel
and the cheng yu is...

i know how to use it ok :p
therefore the cheng yu is the best i can do
