My Business is to Create

"I must create a system or be enslaved by another man's; I will not reason and compare: my business is to create."
Wonderful lines by William Blake, which I first got to know watching the movie P.S I Love You. Holly's dialogue after she tried to recite the poem to Gerry(and just failed haha) is quite touching and pretty much sums up my thoughts on creating anything...
"All I know is, if you don't figure out the "something," you'll just stay ordinary. And it doesn't matter if it's a work of art, or a taco, or a pair of socks. Just create something new and there it is. And it's you, out in the world, outside of you. And you can look at it, or hear it, or read it, or feel it...
...and you know a little bit more about you.
A little bit more than anybody else does."
Coming back to today, and what I'm going to talk about. A few months back I stumbled upon the technique of decoupaging(and fell head-over-heels in love :D). Imagine my surprise when I discovered Mod Podge (or something very like it, spelt Modge Podge) in Starmark!
I purchased a pair of  wooden bangles, dirt cheap, from literally the footpath( Kolkatans will know Gariahat). Managed to get hold of some image printouts...and with my bottle of Podge I was good to go!

For the first one, I used pictures by the maestro Picasso...

More Cards

This is basically a continuation of my first post. I'll describe two more cards here...

This one was a card for a very special friend of mine who loves playing basketball. I was initially daunted with the idea of making a masculine card, but loved the look of this one!

I traced the basketball player on the fluorescent paper(though doesn't look fluorescent in the photos and painted it black. Same with the stars. Next I pasted them on some thick paper to make them strong enough. For the raised effect, I used small bits of double sided tape (a single roll costs about Rs. 25 in our local stationary shop).

The amazing looks a bit shoddy, I know, as it is completely hand cut. But what to do. This person cannot afford the lovely alpha stickers everyone seems to have in abundance... :(

But still, I like the CAS (Clean and Simple) look of the card. Plus it was totally cheap to make! ;)

My First Post

As the title suggests, this is the very inception of me as a blogger.

The time is inappropriate in the extreme... I have my class 12 exams right at the doorstep. But I think blogging would relax my exam-racked nerves a bit when I take study breaks.

This blog is mostly going to be about crafting(or so I have planned till now). For obvious reasons, I will not be able to post on fresh projects. For the next few months or so, I am going to post about my works so far. After March, when the ISC's are hopefully going to be over, I will post new things:)

There is a huge number of astounding craft blogs zealously maintained by extremely talented crafters. The number of Indian craft blogs are also increasing each day. I am totally a newbie crafter, and my efforts will be nothing compared to others. But the focal point of this blog is going to be learning. I am going to learn stuff, and put it up here so that other beginners like me will learn from my mistakes.

I am constantly on the hunt for cheap crafting materials as I do not have access to a lot of money, being just a student. Neither do I have a working printer. So as much as I drool over the crafting products on online sites (DCWV stacks... oh my!), owning them is another thing altogether.

Enough of introduction. Today's post is going to be about some cards I made recently. Actually, my school days are going to end next week, so I've made some cards to give to my friends.
