More than a Competition

SYF is over for the class of 2007 and 2008.

Although many of us have very mixed feelings about how things went, there is a lot to be positive about and a lot to thank God for! What we also need is not to have any wrong impressions.

AC Strings 07/08 is a truly unique bunch of people. What has amazed me the most is the diverse back grounds we have come from. For many of us, this experience has been a first as part of a string ensemble, and God has truly blessed us with this opportunity to make music together. To have achieved what we've done so far is just another blessing He has showered on us. It is also a testament of the passion and dedication each of us has for this group. We have come a long way since the beginning of the year and this proves that we need not be playing together for five or six years to play good music. This is something we should be proud of!

We shouldn't come away from this experience with any wrong impressions; wrong impressions of what good music is and wrong impressions that we are inferior. Good music isn't playing every note correct. It isn't about well rehearsed movements on stage. And it isn't about being superior to anyone else. What's the point of being able to play every single note and to move like waves if there is no passion in what we do? Music is so much more than a competition!

There is much to be happy about! And for now we celebrate God's faithfulness and His gift of music! To God be the glory, the best is yet to be!

2007 SYF

GOLD

yay!
Good job strings! i hope we did our best and enjoyed playing both pieces! really had a GREAT time there today!
Our hard work, effort, and many practices have paid off.
but as some of u have said, it's not the end. but its the beginning of a really fruitful journey we'll all share! there's kronos and japan tour to come. and then down the road, we'll have many more generations of stringers!
don't be too disappointed that we didn't get a gold with honours k? we really worked hard and gave our best. looking at the short period of time and the diversity of the group, we really should be thankful for the results!
Had a really FUN time with u guys. memorable and funny. hahaha school spirit is there too :)

anyway, enough of my luo-suo-ness... now for the
THANK-YOUs:

To both the loving madams, a really HUGE THANK YOU for being there with us, throughout every single rehearsal, performance, etc. Your patience levels must have increased tremendously! thanks for loving us so much and scolding us when we really needed it. we cannot thank u less!

To Mr Tan, for leading us musically, and letting us enjoy the wonderful joy of making music together as one string ensem. haha and for tolerating alot of our nonsense! you're a GREAT conductor and we love u!

To acjc friends and well wishers, principals, teachers and students! esp. to the performing arts ccas. thanks for all your sweet cards and prayers! your support has kept us going also! =p

and TO GOD! for walking with us throughout the whole process, blessing us with such gifts and talents. and bringing us the love of music. without Him, nothing is possible! and Thank God for the GOLD! woohoo!!!

the best is yet to be for strings.... :)
