There are elderly who grabbed my hand and told me they wanted to commit suicide. One put up a jovial performance for us before bursting into wails and tears all of a sudden. Others just stare into space aimlessly, their souls lost and wandering.
Some have been put there by their children, others picked up by authorities along the streets and living on public assistance. $260 is given to the home monthly for each elderly on public assistance, but $900 is needed to support them each month.
The elderly at the nursing home eat 5 times a day, for that's all they can do- eat, sleep and wait to pass on. I smell death. I feel sick. I see tears. I want to help.
Since i wont be doing charity full-time next time, i will do whatever i can during this internship. might as well maximize what i can do within these few months.
So, i'm selling walt disney pens at 10 bucks and i hope to hit $40000 by may 7 when our fundraising permit ends. All the money goes to the elderly, operational costs of youth challenge are raised through charity dinners and fairs. At present, about $9000 is in the kitty.
If there's anyone YOU know who can help either to fundraise on the streets (anytime, any day) or sell pens to your friends or collect donations or spend time with these elderly OR BUY PENS, let me know. Let's do our part when we still can. Every little bit counts.
