Stay-cation!

We did something kind of new... we've never really thought about a staycation before, but we were in need of one. A chance to get away, but not REALLY get away. Enter.... Great Wolf Lodge. This place has been in KC for several years, and we always talk about going, but since we had relatives in KC we always stayed with them when we came to town, not in a hotel.

IT. WAS. FUN! We read lots of reviews before going and after spending 24 hours there ourselves, we've decided that people who enjoy it are there for their KIDS, not for themselves. Because for the kids, it's PERFECT!! But if you're looking for a resort for adults, look somewhere else! :)

This is picture heavy, so get ready!

While Daddy checked us in, the kids and I hung out and just took in the ambiance of the place. Way cool!

They loved having their own bunk beds, tucked away in their own little "cabin" in the room. They both LOVED it until bedtime came and we had upstairs neighbors that were having some sort of "how many times can you jump off the bunk beds/gymnastics/body slamming" sort of "fun". We had to call the front desk to have someone talk to them.....our kids were crying because it was SO loud and scary. I didn't blame them at all. It really was "out of control" loud. My guess is that they either didn't have any adult supervision or the adults they did have supervising them were maybe one of the groups coming in with several 12 packs of beer. Whatever!!

While we got the room organized, Allison began to draw. Shocker!

Making antler ears before taking off for the pool. :)

The water park was AWESOME! I mean, super duper fun! Neither kid was ready for the big slides (which will make it even more fun in the future, I'm sure), but we had fun in the kid area, the regular pool, and most of all, the lazy river. I almost missed out on the fun (as I didn't own a swimming suit), but I decided at the last minute that I was NOT going to sit on the sidelines just cause I'm self-concious! God helped me (I'm serious here!) find a suit, that was decent looking, that fit, at the LAST HOUR so I could join the kids for FUN! So glad I did that!

After swimming, we headed back to our rooms to take showers before going out to eat.

She's just being silly. She was happy the whole time.... well, except for once.. I'll explain later.

Loving the top bunk! Although he slept in the bottom one. Ha! Allison slept beside me, on the floor, after being scared by the neighbors AND having a nightmare. Poor thing!

For dinner we went to Granite City. One of my FAVORITES! Allison picked it for the yummy hamburgers, which she now eats without the bun. She has more food issues than I do, if that's possible!

The other side of the table! :)

This is how we spent most of our time at Great Wolf Lodge... participating in the MagiQuest adventure! It would take WAY too long to explain... basically the kids get magic wands that open treasure boxes, make pictures talk, etc. They go on different "quests" to earn additional special powers. They both LOVED it!

This was right before Allison's "icky" part of the trip. In another minute she would thrust her wand out, in a VERY powerful way, JUST as some kids were running around the corner. The result? Her wand met a kid smack dab in the eye. He fell to the ground, crying. OH MY GOSH, we felt SO bad! Of course there wasn't an adult with his group (don't get me started!), but we made sure he was okay before we moved on. :) Allison started crying, but we think it was due to the fact that she thought she'd be in trouble more than feeling bad that a kid was hurt. We're working on empathy in our family. :)

The lobby of the lodge. These balloons will drop at midnight tonight!

At 8:00 every night they have story time. Most kids get in their jammies and come down for the story!

Meeting "Violet", one of the characters at the lodge. Too cute!!

We woke up to snow, snow, and more snow! It's been snowing all day. LOVE IT!!

Before breakfast we let the kids perform a little dance number for us!

The breakfast buffet was DELICIOUS!!

Loved the "scenery" at the lodge!

Aaron tries to use his magic wand at the restaurant. :)

I was the only one who really wanted to check out the "Cub Club", where kids could make arts and crafts, but it turned out to be really fun for everyone, so I'm glad we went. The kids could choose to color a t-shirt, paint a backpack, paint ceramic animals, etc. Our kids? They chose to make lotions. Really? It turned out to be REALLY fun, and thankfully one of the cheaper options! :)

After deciding on a color for their lotions, they stirred them up!

Then it was time to choose a scent. The gal working with our kids was so nice and "teacher like". They loved interacting with her!

He's just smelling his hand, not licking it! :)

The last step was to put a sticker (or in their case, multiple stickers) on their lotion bottles to personalize them. Adorable!

Before heading back home we stopped at The Legends (right next to the Lodge) to shop at the book store (we just looked!) and get some yogurt. We haven't eaten since, so I think it's time to finish this blog and get some dinner! HAPPY NEW YEAR, EVERYONE!!

Plaza Fun!

For those of you not familiar with Kansas City, one of our greatest attractions is The Plaza. It's a HUGE outdoor shopping area with tons of great places to spend money as well as eat like crazy! I loved going as a kid, and I REALLY love going as an adult! Pictures never do it justice, so if you've never been, you should find a way to visit someday. :) The most wonderful thing about The Plaza is how it's transformed during the holiday season. On Thanksgiving they light "The Plaza Lights", and it is simply beautiful!! Throughout the year they offer carriage rides.. doing this during the holiday season is the best, and tonight, after we had a delicious BBQ dinner, Daddy bought us tickets. The snow was falling, we were singing carols... simply PERFECT!

Our favorite restaurant (that would be Scott's and mine... the kids don't "do" BBQ) is Jack Stack BBQ. It is soooo delicious every single time! Notice the to-go bag. As much as I enjoy eating, I can never finish my meal and always bring home half to enjoy the next day... okay, sometimes later that night! No wonder I'm looking up the effects of overeating... but I digress!

I took 94 pictures tonight. I didn't get any great ones, but I think you'll see the fun we had, and that's what counts!

Aaron caught a couple of good snowflakes. Allison and I both had snowflakes fall into our eyes!

She's turning around to see some other carriages!

One year we rode in the Cinderella one. That was kinda fun!

Allison tries to catch them with her rolled tongue. I can't roll my tongue. I'm kinda jealous.

You wanna come visit, don't you? Please, do!

Petting our horse as we left.

Our cute little posers! Oh my gosh, I just noticed he has his arm around her. Too cute!

On our way home we stopped by the pet store to buy Zoey a treat. Today she turns TWO!

Allison, singing Happy b-day to Zoey before handing over a piece of her "cake" to her! :) Notice her decked out in her new K-State bling? Oh yea, she's lookin' good!! GO KSU!!!

Zoey is too funny. Whenever she gets a special treat she runs downstairs to eat it.... as if we'd take it from her if she didn't hide. She's never had a special treat in this house, so we were laughing that she did the same thing she did at the old house. :)
