Fair Projects

Today I got my nephews and my neice and brought them to our house so they could work on their projects for the fair.  The fair is a couple weeks away and their projects have to be turned into the fair on Friday.  This year we kept it kind of simple.  My neice Hailee, Ashlee and Mikayla chose to enter things they had made throughout the year, so the only thing they all had to do was a watercolor painting. In another week, we will get together again to make and decorate their cakes for the fair.

June...

June just flew by; but at the same time, it kind of made me stop and think about the path we are on and where we are headed, because in a split second your life can change forever.   I don't know where to start, or exactly how to word this post, so I am just going to write what comes to my mind and write about the things that happened this month.  On June 11th I received a phone call early in the morning from my friend Meliesa.  Meliesa asked me if I had heard from our friend Heidi.  I said no.  Meliesa proceeded to tell me that Heidi called her and said that her husband had been in an accident out by our house.  She asked me if I could go to the accident an help her.  I grabbed my purse and headed out the door.  As soon as I arrived at the scene of the accident, the Medi-Flight helicopter was lifting off the ground.  I went over to my friend Heidi, hugged her and tried to help her the best I could.  The first word's out of her mouth were "they think they are going to have to amputate his foot."  Heidi's husband Josh was on a motorcyle on his way to work in Gilroy and a truck with a trailer full of calves, ran a stop sign and hit him.  Josh's foot was pinned between the motorcycle and the bumper of the truck and he was pushed 20 feet.  Josh's foot suffered irreparable damage and had to be amputated.
I have never been one of those people, that seems to know what to say or how to help people get through difficult times and that really bugs me.  I want people to know that I do care and I am willing and able to help, but finding the words just doesn't come easy for me.  I felt so helpless.  I wanted to help our friends, but I didn't know what they needed or how to help; but on the other hand, I didn't want to be a pain and keep bugging them either.  Our family wanted to help Josh and Heidi and their 5 girls, we wanted them to know that we were thinking about them, that they were in our thoughts and prayers and that we were ready to help them with whatever they needed, so we did what we seem to know how to do best, and that was work.  John went to their home and with the help of some members from their ward and Josh's brother, they started gutting out and remodeling their bathroom (the bathroom needed to be remodeled in order to be accessible for Josh).  The girls and I along with Heidi's mom and some members from their ward went and helped clean and organize the house.  We did what needed to be done. I still feel like I should be doing more, but I just don't know what to do.
Life truely is a blessing.  Never take it for granted and live each day to the fullest.  You never know when  your life will change forever.  It seems as though so many people that I know are going through really difficult and trying times recently and it really has got me thinking about the path we are on.  A guy that I grew up with was 34 years old, married with 3 kids and lost his life to cancer a few days ago.   Another person I grew up with had their 5th child a few days ago and the child has health issues and has been in NICU.  Another friend has a two year old neice that got ecoli and is in the hospital having to receive dialysis treatments because her kidney's shut down.  Life is a blessing and shouldn't be taken for granted.  Do the math, count your blessings and appreciate every blessing you have!

Girls

On Wednesday we went shopping for church clothes at the mall.  The second store we went to was Crazy 8's.  It must have been our luck day, because they were having a sale.  Everything in the store was $11.99 or less.  Here is one of the outfits the girls got.  I think they really wanted the wedge shoes more than anything.  But the outfit was really cute and cheap so they each got the whole set.  Everyone at church today was commenting on their outfits.  John was taking credit for them and telling everyone that he picked them out!

The wind has been awful here, so the pictures aren't spectacular.  And our camera just doesn't take good indoor pictures.

15 Years

15 years ago today we were married.  John suprised me at work today and had these beautiful roses delivered to me.
The following day we went to dinner at Vito's in Modesto, and saw Brian Regan.  There was also a car show going on in downtown Modesto near the Gallo Center where we saw Brian Regan. We got to watch the car show before seeing Brian Regan.

Hollywood Princess

A couple months ago I signed up on Groupon. I had been hearing a lot about it and wanted to see what is was about.  Soon after I signed up they sent me a coupon for $10 off my first Groupon purchase.  I never used the coupon.  A few weeks later they sent me another coupon for $15 off my first Groupon purchase.  Then I got an email for a Groupon special at this place called Hollywood Princess.  Hollywood Princess is a place for girls ages 3-12.  They do facials, pedicures, manicures, lotions, lip glosses and bath scrubs.  Long story short, I was able to purchase two coupons for Hollywood Princess for $13.  After having to reschedule our appointment twice within the last 2 months, we finally made it there today.  Here is their web site if your interested  www.hollywoodprincessparty.com

We made a little mom/daughter day out of our day.  The girls were in need of church clothes so we went to the mall.  Crazy 8 was having a sale everything in the store was $11.99 or less.  We were able to get each of them several church outfits there.  We also went to Baja Fresh for lunch.  You can tell by the looks on their faces that they enjoyed every minute of it.  $13 well spent!

My 35th Birthday

I turned the big 35 this year.  My birthday fell on a Sunday, but John was very determined that I find a babysitter on Saturday so we could go out.  I figured he was up to something, but didn't know what.  Luckily my brother was off work from his surgery and had his kids for the weekend so he watched the girls.  John suprised me by taking me to my favorite resturant, Angelini's and having some of our closest friends meet us there for dinner.  After dinner we went and had yogurt at Yogolicious for dessert.  Sunday we went to church.  Ashlee made a cake for me and then I went a YW board meeting.  After I got home from my YW meeting they sang Happy Birthday to me and we ate cake.

Cousins

The last two days have been pretty hot.  Today we decided to take my niece and nephews along with us to a little splash park here in town.  The plan was to play in the splash park, go swimming at the pool at the park and have a picnic lunch.  Unfortunately, things didn't go quite as planned.  The pool wasn't open, thus meaning the bathrooms were not open either.  And there was just a bunch of rif raff people at the park.  There were kids that were probably 10-12 years old climbing on top of roofs and climbing tall spiky fences to get into the pool.  They were using foul language and it was just not good.  Too bad they put these nice parks in the worst area of town.  Why is that?  So we had our lunch, the kids played in the water and on the playground for a while and then we left.

We ended up going to Wal Mart and buying a little wading pool for them to play in at home.  But when we got home it was super windy and dirt kept blowing in their eyes so they didn't want to be outside.
