March Update from Our Agency!

 She eats well. 
 She has been healthy. 
Development/Physical:  
 She can trace alphabets and numbers. 
 She can count numbers 1-10 in Amharic. 

Personality/Other Comments:   
 She likes singing spiritual songs. 
 She likes dogs. She has a play mate she loves, his name is Teddy. 

Questions we asked:
1. What is her daily and nightly schedule?- she wakes up around 6 am, 
brush her teeth and groom, breakfast, class, snack and break 
time, class, lunch, nap, class, snack, play time, dinner, putting 
pajamas and cleaning, bedtime. 
2. How does she like to be comforted when she is upset?- by hugging her 
and talking to her. 
3. Does she have any behaviors that might be challenging for us to deal 
with?- we haven’t seen such a behavior. 
4. What does she say about us?- she is happy to have a family. 
5. What is she afraid of? – she said she is not afraid of anything.

 Now he can speak well in Amharic. 
 He tries to sing ABC. He can climb on slider and monkey bar. 
Personality/Other Comments:   
 He has become active, happy, sociable and playful. 
 He likes to spend time with old people. He is friends with guards at 
Transitional home 2.  
 He likes to play with sand. 

Questions we asked:
1. How long has he been in the orphanage and transition home?-   they had 
been in the orphanage for about 2 weeks. he came to the Transitional 
home on January 12,2010 
2. What is his daily/nightly schedule?-He wakes up around 6 am, the nannies brush his teeth and dress him, 
breakfast, sport,  class, snack and break time, class revision and songs, 
lunch, nap, snack, play time, dinner, putting pajamas and cleaning, 
bedtime.(sleeps throughout the night, may wake up to pee)  
3. How does he like to be comforted when he is upset?- he gets comforted 
when he is talked with nice words. 
4. Does he have any behaviors that might be challenging for us to deal 
with?- he sometimes wants to get into everything. 
5. What is he afraid of?- nothing.

Updates on Our Kids from our Agency

Once a month we receive updates from our agency about our kids. They send us new pictures and updated information on their health and development. We also get to ask 5 specific questions about each child. We particularly LOVE T's answer to "What is something she wants us to know about her?"...check it out!

Eating/Health:   
    She eats Pasta, Macaroni, Rice, injera, bread, meat, egg, vegetable, fruits…She has been healthy. 
Development/Physical:  
    She now can communicate with common Amharic words. She can sing ABC. 
Personality/Other Comments:   
    She is adjusting well to her new life. She is becoming more active and playful. She loves M*l******m.

What language does she speak?
    Welayta is her first language. Now she can communicate in common Amharic words. 
What are some of her "favorites" (food, color, activities)? Her favorite food is bread. Her favorite color is red. 
     She likes to play on the slide. 
What is something she wants us to know about her birth father, mother, sister? 
     She said she has a sister.  
What does she want us to know about her?
     She said I need candies and cookies!
What 5 people does Tensaye spend the most time with?
     Her teachers Frihiwot and Tigist, her nannies Zinash, Aynalem ,Kidist.

Eating/Health:   
     He eats the same kind of food as his sister. He loves bread. He had acute febrile illness and upper   
     respiratory tract infection.He got treated with antibiotics and Malaria drugs. 
Development/Physical:  
     He can walk and run. He feeds himself.He talks with Welayta language with his sister and friends. He is 
     speaking some common Amharic words. 
Personality/Other Comments:   
     He is very attached to his sister T*n***e. He used to be quite but now he has started to relate with other children. 

QUESTIONS WE ASKED:
Is he fully potty-trained for both day and night?-Yes 
What are some of his "favorites" (food, color, activities)?
     He loves bread. He doesn’t differentiate colors. He likes to play with plastic dolls. 
What is known about the community where Millennium is from?
     He came from Welayta. They speak the Welyta language.  It is located in Southern region. Their traditional food is Kocho (traditional bread). 
What is something he wants us to know about his birth father, mother, sister?
     He didn’t respond to this question, maybe he didn’t understand this question. 
What 5 people does Millennium spend the most time with?
     He has 9 nannies who work shifting day and night and one nurse called Eskedar.
