Well, we are not sure if it is the smartest thing but we have given notice to our landlords that we will be leaving this summer from our current abode. We are hoping to find a house that we can rent in its entirety. We don't blame our basement neighbours - they are college fellas whose lives get started after 8 PM. Unfortunately that is when our girls go to sleep. Needless to say but we will anyway, we would appreciate your prayers and watchful ears and eyes as we look for a new place to live.

Spring?
I was kind of hoping that the new theme and background could the inspiration for a new post about how beautiful spring is here on the West Coast. Well, the weatherman is saying that we might have SNOW in the morning! What a cruel April Fool's joke!

Sub-way Sandwiches
What do you put on your sub when you are at your local sandwich eatery? Our girls like pickles and black olives and cheese. And they love it!

Anti-Biotics - 40% Useage Rate
Currently our youngest kid and yours truly are on antibiotics. For myself it is my second round. My chest and upper back are feeling rather achy from all of the coughing, and I am quite tired with sleeping on the couch every night so I can sleep sitting up. More prayers are appreciated!
In other news, the tying of shoe laces is no longer just a skill shared by Mom and Dad. The addition of this skill has actually been quite smooth.
Finally, my dear wife had an excellent time at the beginning of this month watching some world-class ice skating with two of her excellent friends. Now she just needs to find some local friends with cable TV so she can watch more events!

II Krahnicles - Print Edition 2008
The editors regret to inform our faithful readers (all three of you), that there was not a written edition of the II Krahn Kroniciles for this past year. This is not something that we expect will happen in this coming year. Our apologies.

Bronchitis - Cough Much?
Good day fine people! I am sitting here in front of my computer and not in bed because I have not found a way to lie down and sleep over the last three nights. The best I have done is a couple of 3-hour chunks before I wake up choking on all my phlegm. I have slightly higher hopes for tonight. I got some new cough medicine and some codeine which, in theory should give me a greater chance of sleeping. This is after my second visit to a doctor with antibiotics being prescribed the first time. At the moment my chest hurts, my back hurts, my throat hurts, and my head hurts. And I also very tired.
I would appreciate your prayers for my recovery. My dear wife has been working extra hard between her paid work and looking after the brood when she gets home. She could use your prayers too. Thanks for now.

Working Hard
Check out the grass-cutting crew! Sure it might look like the three helpers in the back are pulling backwards but that is because the engine in the front has so much energy! Yeah, that's it!
We are slowly settling in at our new place. We still need to do a bunch of stuff at our old place (thank goodness for in-laws and their being patient!), and we still need to do a bunch of stuff at our new place, and life is still moving on (swiftly at time it seems). The parental units of this happy family are also applying here and there trying to find some income for this coming September. Oh yeah. No more paying people money to stay busy (going to school)! The long, long, long process of becoming educated enough to educate others has arrived for one fine fella!
Everyone is mostly healthy, and a couple of younger ones are looking forward to kindergarten in just a few weeks. What?!?! When did they get that old? We hope all is well with you fine folks and we will be in touch soon...

Summer Trip 2007
We were able to get away right before the end of summer. I was able to end my employment a little before school started and off we went to Opa and Omi's cabin! It was a really great break. We had a lot of fun! Here are a few pictures of the fun we had!

Oh Christmas Tree
What is this green thing, growing in our living room? Why it is a Christmas tree! It was put up today! Tomorrow little hands will swarm all over it, putting on decorations! Not so bad I'm thinking!
You know what this means? The actual, real version of the II Krahnicles will soon be completed and mailed out! So that means I need to throw in a bunch of entries in here to hype the impending arrival of such engrossing reading! Hang on - you are going for a ride!
Wheeeeeeeeee!

Just when I thought I was free
It was with great pleasure that I graduated from university this past month. As you can see, there was more than one person happy that "Daddy's done". It was a beautiful day. It started at a decent hour. My family and all my parental units were there. It was a VERY good day.
Alas, my freedom from school has been short-lived. Yesterday I received word that I am still wanted. Yes, this September I am back to school to become trained as a teacher. So for 12 more months, I will be a "student". It should be an interesting time between taking classes and being a student teacher and fathering three daughters and husband-ing one wife. But for now, I am pretty excited!

Family Picture
With three wonderful and ACTIVE kids, it has become harder and harder to find moments to take pleasant family pictures. The one time that we seem to all be dressed nicely and are in the same place tends to be weddings. So thanks to my wife's cousin, who was married recently!
The best thing about this picture is that we are all looking at the camera! Four out of five smiling is a plus! No one is trying to show off their belly-button - sweet. (Apparently not everyone likes to see my version of a keg (as opposed to a six-pack). Weird.) This is pretty much a photographical masterpiece!

Pain in the Neck
Good day good people! It is a beautiful day here in the Lower Mainland: sunny and warm. I just wish I was feeling a little better so I could enjoy it more. Today I get to go to a high school with my fellow youth workers and serve hot dogs for about 1000 kids. It is their talent festival, where the kids provide the entertainment, and it is outdoors. Sweet right? And then in the evening it is the regular gym night with the youth that I work with. Seeing as it is the last gym night of the year, we are doing some special things including an outdoor field option.
But with all of this fun stuff, I am feeling kind of miserable. For the past 10 days or so I have had a stiff and painful neck and head. I have been popping Tylenol and Advil and muscle relaxants and stronger anti-inflammatory medicine and seen a physiotherapist and iced and heated and nothing has seemed to make things better. For some reason (and I cannot remember a moment where my neck started hurting) a muscle in my neck (and only the left side) has become inflamed or seized and in the process it has been squeezing a nerve that runs up the back of my head. It has been such a pain! I have had to take some days off of work and cannot help as much around the house...and well, I was kind of hoping that it would be better by now!In happier news, the older girls have started using "big kid" bikes. It is something that they seem to really enjoy. The challenge is finding them space to ride where we can keep an eye on them! Man, they grow up quickly. Yes, that is a HUGE cliche and I am pretty sure I cannot defend it in any way or fashion so I will end this here.
Have a happy day and a swell week!

Grad Link
Well, I had said I would try to find the link for those who want to watch me march across the stage and get my Bachelor's degree. Here it is:
www.graduation.ubc.ca/vancouver/index.php
From this page, you should be able to catch the web-cast. Start time is 11:00 AM Pacific time. I should be getting my degree some time after that.

Fun With School
Oh the joys of being done! I am back to working full time with the Grade 6&7 youth for the summer so it isn't like my life had suddenly got less busy. But at least with work there are not a set of final exams that need to be completed! I almost blew it! I had three exams this semester. Finish all three and I would be done with my Bachelor of Human Kinetics degree. I did my first English exam on a Thursday and my next exam was to be on Monday. Well, somewhere between Saturday and Monday, I got my days confused. Monday I madly cleaned the house before my wife came home with the kids from visiting Grandma and Grandpa. Tuesday, I was trying to get my last essay done before the exam but was struggling with a block of some sort. (Most likely, it was the "I don't want to do this" block.) So I e-mailed the professor to ask for an extra day or two. He said that would be fine and asked if I knew that I had missed the exam. I looked at my calendar and my stomach dropped to my toes. On the plus side, it helped me to realize my last exam was the very next day, not two days away!
Last year I missed an exam when my wife was suffering with a kidney stone. In order to rewrite that exam, I had to jump through a fair number of hoops, including providing evidence that my wife was in the hospital. There was paperwork and I was signing stuff. Pretty intense. I started to sweat. This time I was just stupid. I had no way of documenting that! But the professor was very gracious. He allowed me to write my exam the next day (two exams in one day wasn't too bad), and it is now "all systems go" for my graduation. As the day and time of my commencement nears, I will try to pass along some more info. I realize most (if not all) of you have lives and likely have busy days, but I do think that UBC has a video feed of the commencement available on the internet. I'll try to find the link.

Long Time No Blog!
Yes, we are still alive! Yes, we are still healthy! We just have not been blogging. [slap my wrists]
Life continues to be good...and busy. I am nearly done my school work for the year with just one paper left and then three exams. I should be done by April 25. And then I graduate with my HKIN degree in May! I've applied to the School of Education at UBC so we will see how that turns out. I will be interning full-time (maybe) again this summer at Willingdon Church. No big trips this year but I am planning two weeks of day camps for the Grade 6s and 7s in July.
My dear wife is still beautiful. She has the little ladies up at her parents' cabin this weekend. (One of the downsides of work - being separated for holidays.) We are waiting to see how the summer will work out with both of us working. We might need to hire someone to help with the girls. And if I do get into Education this fall, then we are looking at my wife taking a leave of absence from work. We are also looking to find a new place to live where we can be a little more independent. Life is certainly interesting.
Our little munchkins are pretty much brilliant and adorable and all of those other fun words proud parents use. The youngest is always trying to keep up with her sisters in everything that they do. Looking ahead, it might be interesting when the older two head off to school (in just over a year! Yikes! So soon!). The older two went to ballet classes this spring and loved it. They really are pretty swell kids.
Hopefully the next update will be a little quicker in getting posted! Thanks for the patience!

And the tree came a-tumblin' down
Most of you will have heard about Vancouver's run of wind storms this new year. Yes, Stanley Park, Vancouver's biggest park, was slammed and many trees fell. But we had our own excitement! On a nearby street, we woke up one morning to find this poor unfortunate truck.
The wind that blew the night before did not seem to be super strong but it must have been on the right angle. The tree was rotting on the inside so it was weakened, but this was after two or three stronger storms. Needless to say, the little ones found it fascinating.

Family
So we got through Christmas, with all of this wonderful family time, but we never came up with a great family picture. Oh, we tried. But getting three little ladies all to smile at the same time and looking the same way is not super easy. But here we are. Smiling. Eyes open. Nicely dressed. You could look at this and almost start to think that life is hunky-dory!
Ah, but life is good. Sleep depriving perhaps, but still good. There has been dramatic improvement in the use of the toilet by the older girls. The youngest is continually asking to do things on her own...and succeeding in her attempts! Healthy, smart, cute kids. They sure make parents look good!

Twas the morn of Christmas
Twas the morn of Christmas
and the cousins were out
To get all five to smile?
Well, we had our doubts.
Gifts were exchanged
Thank yous were given
And I think they even understood
We were celebrating Jesus livin'.

Well, there was this wedding three days before Christmas
It happened. We lived. Here is a picture we tried to get of the whole family, looking as good as we could. It didn't work overly well. Fortunately all three little ladies were smiling when the expensive "real" photographer wanted some pictures of the flower girls and the bride!
When it came to the service, all three did SUPER! At rehearsal, we tried to rein in the youngest by asking her sisters to hold her hand. That ended up with all three lying on the floor in the middle of the aisle! But come crunch time, they stepped up! Flower petals were tossed and all three made it to the front of the church! YEAH!

Your "Sears" Portraits
This year we have not been able to get the girls into a studio to take professional pictures. With work and school and cleaning madly for the extra visitors at Christmas, we have found little time for anything else. So for your viewing pleasure, we give you these two lovely pictures of three lovely ladies. Consider it a preview. If you have received a copy of the II Krahnicles in years past, thse are some of the pictures that will be coming with this year's copy. (If you want to receive a paper copy of our newsletter and you have not in the past, please drop us an e-mail or comment and we will get you on the list. Hurry. Mailing day is coming up!)
As one could imagine, the girls are getting pretty excited about Christmas! Naps are becoming shorter (or non-existent). Bedtime is usually a trial. It should make for an interesting Christmas season. Mom and Dad are definitely entering this period sleep deprived! (Just do not look at the time this was posted! :) )

It's Beginning to Look like Christmas!

The snow stayed! It came down and down and it got cold! It was so wonderful for this prairie boy! The ladies got together and made this wonderful snowman. And when the cold did come, the snow was still falling so there were piles of snow on every branch!
The lovely gingerbread men, made out of the Joy of Cooking cookbook, were decorated by the lovely ladies (in case you could not tell). When asked which pictures to include in this post, this picture received a lot of votes from the younger crowd, Far be it for us to ignore the younger audience. If gingerbread men are hot this year, then gingerbread men will be found here!

Time is a Tickin'
Hello all. It is nearly the end of November. When did that happen? I only have one class left this semester. In less than a month my wife's brother is getting married. Soon after (OK, immediately after) my brothers and families will be around. Oh yeah, there is also something about finding presents for people. I was thinking all was grand. That there was lots of time. It'll all get done. Right.
What has also sparked a little pang of fear is that the official printed copy of the II Krahnicles is due out soon. As one of the main editors and the main contributor, there is some pressure. Like I probably should be typing something out for the print copy instead of doing this. Yikes!
As we enter the Christmas season, we do hope that you are able to find some happy, slower, relaxing type times amidst all the bustle and shopping and events. [When you find them, let us know about them. I am not too sure how many we will experience! :)] Merry Christmas!
ps - the colours in the picture seemed relevant to this post.

We 're getting closer!
This past October 31, we came home with at least the right number of creatures! In a previous post, we commented on how we had left with our daughters and ended up with a dog and a cat. Well, this time we ended up with a ladybug, a cow and a horse. So, please do keep your eyes open for our little ones - we now have the right number of creatures to trade!
