man......oh man......the stories i could tell

let's begin like this

Once upon a time there was a mother she had 4 children, 3 boyz and one girly girl. The thing about this Mother was that she LOVED her kids, I mean she really LOVED them so much so that most of her day was dedicated to keeping the environment around them SAFE. As the children where peculiarly active this task was at times challenging but this dear Mother tried her hardest & prayed even harder hoping that the gap between what she was able to do and what was needed would be made up by her faith.

One day this Mother, {bless her heart} felt as though she NEEDED a shower. As she stepped into the shower her girly girl asked if she could take one with her, { now I need to explain that normally this Mother would have smiled, taken a deep breath to silently mourn her alone time, and welcomed the little Lass. But on this particular morning this mother had had a RUFF week and she just needed a little break, I also think it is important to explain at this time that the Mr. to this Mother had taken the 2 eldest so the Mother was alone with the girly girl and the little boss}. The Mother continued to shower solo while talking with the little lady through the curtain. Within a moment of the little lass' last sentiments to her Mother, the mother heard crying...but the crying was coming from outside so the mother thought little of it..... UNTIL the big Army GUY from upstairs begun to POUND on her front door.......the Mother rushed to the door barley toweled where she was told

YOUR BABY JUST FELL OUT THE WINDOW

{15-20 feet}

gasp.wet.clothes stick.calling out the window.crying lass.mother yelling to daughter.mother sobbing.window opened.clothes on.out the door.daughter running.daughter jumping.mother hugging. neighbors warning keep her still. daughter longing for mothers arms. girly girl flat on grass. ambulance. EM T's. fire trucks. cell phones.dad and brothers home in shock.mother in shock.daughter doesn't want to go to the hospital.daughter doesn't want to stay still. mother & daughter ride in ambulance.doctors say girly is amazing.x-rays.CAT scans.little girl OK.nothing broken.nothing damaged.nothing bruised.not even a scratch.not even a bump.mother thanks GOD.mother & daughter giggle in the ER room.dad picks mother & daughter up.family thanks GOD.family recognizes the miracle.Family safe.Family together.mother recognizes power beyond her.mother is grateful. daughter is blessed.

then they all lived happily.......and the Mother was too tired to blog for a week ;-)

THE END

Funny Monday

a funny thing happened last night............
"DAD......the daddy's leg is broken" {Emme speaking to her father about the Ken doll who plays the DAD }
"Oh no (insert siren sounds)here comes the ambulance((more sirens))" " Let's see what we've got here..ahh I see a no leg well yes let's take care of that for you sir.....I'm not going to lie to you sir this is going to hurt! (snap snap)good as new" {the Mr. plays}
"Oh DAD"( with as much love & admiration as you can imagine)
Is this the man I married? Nope.......this is definitely BETTER!

Funny Monday

a funny thing happened the other day
the dinner conversation went something like this........
"Liam, if you do that the police are going to put you in jail, put salt on your head, and eat your eyeballs"
why this was said......i know not...but the kids were fresh off parade candy & a sleepless firework filled evening and this made them GIGGLE for longer than you can imagine........well what isn't to love in this VERY boy conversation.....police {always awesome topic}.....rule abiding or breaking {ever a popular subject for a TRUE first & second child dynamic}.......and cannibalism...... there is enough in that one little sentence to keep a 5 and 6 year old giggling for awhile.......
WHO are these KIDS?!?!

Advice to a Pregnant Daughter-in-Law
by Charles Darling
Avoid sharp things like corners, scissor points,
words and blades and cheddar cheese. Eschew
whatever's heavy, fast, and cumbersome:

meteorites, rumbly truck and stinky bus,
hockey players, falling vaults, and buffalo.
Steer clear of headlines, bank advices,

legal language, papal bulls, and grocery ads.
Every morning, listen to baroque divertimenti,
romantic operas, Hildegarde von Bingen hymns.

Evenings, read some lines from Shakespeare's comedies;
do a page of algebra; study shapes of clouds
and alchemy; make fun of your husbands feet.

Practice listening like a doe at the edge
of the earth's deep woods, but learn to disregard
most everything you hear (especially your father

and father-in-law). Learn some Indian lullabies;
speak with magic stones beneath your tongue.
Finally, I wish, avoid all tears—except

that the world and time will have their way
and weep we must. Perhaps enough is said
of grief and happiness to realize

that any child of yours will live a lifetime
utterly beguiled (as my child is)
by your bright smile, your wild and Irish laugh.

It was on this day in 1731 that Ben Franklin founded the first circulating library, a forerunner to the now ubiquitous free public library. He started it as a way to help settle intellectual arguments among his group of Philadelphia friends, the Junto, a group of civic-minded individuals gathered together to discuss the important issues of their day.
Each of the 50 charter members bought an initial share into the company (40 shillings), which helped fund the buying of books, and then paid a smaller yearly fee (10 shillings) that went to buying more books and maintaining the library. In exchange, the members could borrow any of the books. Donations of books were gladly accepted.
They called their charter the Library Company of Philadelphia, and the next year, Franklin hired America's first librarian, Louis Timothee. At first, the books were stored at the librarian's house, but by the end of the decade, they were moved to the Pennsylvania State House, which is now known as Independence Hall.
It's the birthday of grammarian William Strunk Jr., (books by this author) born in Cincinnati, Ohio (1869). He was a professor at Cornell University for 46 years, and during that time, he created the "little book" known as The Elements of Style (1918) in order to make it easier to grade his students' composition papers.
Strunk's book included seven "rules of usage" and 11 "principles of composition." He advised, for example, "USE THE ACTIVE VOICE" and "PUT STATEMENTS IN POSITIVE FORM" and "OMIT NEEDLESS WORDS." He elaborated: "Vigorous writing is concise. A sentence should contain no unnecessary words, a paragraph no unnecessary sentences, for the same reason that a drawing should have no unnecessary lines and a machine no unnecessary parts."
Under this, he proceeded to give a table of bad examples and counterpart good examples. He lists an expression that is a violator of the conciseness principle: "There is no doubt but that." In its place, he recommends the word "doubtless." In that same section, he says, "In especial the expression the fact that should be revised out of every sentence in which it occurs." In his table of bad usage and good usage, "owing to the fact that" is replaced with "because" and "in spite of the fact that" is replaced with "although."
He self-published the book, and for years, it was mostly only known around Cornell University in Ithaca. One of his students at Cornell in 1919 was E.B. White, who became an editor at The New Yorker magazine. White wrote an essay about Strunk's book for The New Yorker in 1957; it began, "A small book arrived in my mail not long ago, a gift from a friend in Ithaca."
In 1959, E.B. White, re-edited and resurrected his professor's book. Though White claimed that he was reluctant to pose as an authoritarian on rhetoric, he insisted, "Unless someone is willing to entertain notions of superiority, the English language disintegrates, just as a home disintegrates unless someone in the family sets standards of good taste, good conduct, and simple justice."
White revised the book further in 1972 and 1979. White said that while he was working on revisions of the book, he could visualize Strunk's "puckish face, short hair with middle part and bangs, blinking eyes, steel-rimmed glasses, nervously nibbled lips, and repeated adjurations to his students to be concise." The Elements of Style, in its various editions, has now sold more than 10 million copies. It's now often referred to simply as "Strunk & White." While many American college freshman and some aspiring writers have considered the book indispensable, others find it a source of great angst, and many esteemed writers have openly defied the conventions set forth, including Strunk's fellow Cornell literature professor Vladimir Nabokov. A new 50th anniversary edition of Strunk and White's The Elements of Style was published this year, and has brought a new wave of attention to the book. An article in The Chronicle of Higher Education a few months ago lambastes the book; Professor Geoffrey K. Pullman said that English syntax is "much too important to be reduced to a bunch of trivial don't-do-this prescriptions by a pair of idiosyncratic bumblers who can't even tell when they've broken their own misbegotten rules."
American author Dorothy Parker once wrote, "If you have any young friends who aspire to become writers, the second-greatest favor you can do them is to present them with copies of The Elements of Style. The first-greatest, of course, is to shoot them now, while they're happy."
Be well, do good work, and keep in touch.®

my you do have your hands full......

this is what EVERYONE who sees me with the 4 in tow says
here in lies the rub
I think that the mere mention that i am in over my head resonates somewhere within
and i begin to doubt.....for example
last night at Angelo's softball game, a nice work wife was watching my kids RUN WILD
then turned to me and
" man you must sleep well at night...they are ACTIVE"
well that was a fairly nice thing to say...im sure in no way meant to break me down
but what do you suppose happened
i got to thinking
....i am tired
...i am always tired
...they are a lot of work
...should i have to work so hard
then i felt like crying...then i took the kids to the car & CRIED
but as I was watching the laundry swirling in the washer this morning i thought to myself
Yeah, its a lot a work
yep, not every day is rewarding or even easy for that matter
but who's plan was it that my life should be EASY, 24-7 FUN
isn't the TRUE meaning of reward getting something for DOING {etc} something
so how then if I don't work....don't teach......don't clean.....don't do anything that I don't want to how then will i be rewarded & FOR WHAT
so
i gotta find some way not to get all flipped out when a somewhat silly OBSERVATION is made
maybe it'll go something like this
"MY you do have your hands full, don't you"
out loud I'll respond
"yup"
in my mind I'll say
" yeah FULL of ETERNAL REWARD"
......or something like that

Costa Rica or BUST!

......while the 2 youngest & the oldest and I visit el RANCHO GRAMMA-PA...Don Angelo and the second son took off to COSTA RICA...i know what your thinking how boring it must be to have to visit a place like COSTA RICA..heehee.....they have landed and enjoyed 3 or so beaches already ...poor guys...some guys just have to do all the dirty work in a family..ya gotta hand it to 'em for being such good sports about the whole think.....LOL....they are 2 of the luckiest devils around if you ask me........

in which we lose the locks

jaxson announced yesterday that it was just TOO hot for HAIR

so

we took the hair off his Hot little head

below you can see the result is nothing short of a success...although you can now see just how absolutely GORGEOUS this boy is.....yikes!

Emme's hair cut came about in a bit of a different fashion however
this morning
our usual hair fights in sued
and frankly until she is old enough to keep it nice or let me
summer and her hair just don't mesh
she spends 10 minutes getting it done only to look like nobody has bothered with her in 3 months..so "we" opted for a more summer/Emme friendly hair cut
the picture below is just after i finished the cut
once washed and dried it will look like a million bucks......and stay that way no matter what she throws at it......so maybe princess hair isn't to be....well not this summer at least........

a true GRADUATE

here....above is the reason for our southern jaunt
what can I say about this stellar young man
*he graduated magna cum-laude with letters in both English and Orchestra...magnificent
*he makes the violin sing in his skill full hands
*he awakes early for mission prep...thrilling
*he is a great example to my two younger brothers
*he is the 17 year old I wish I was.... girl version of course
my mother let me in on a little conversation that exemplifies this young mans brilliant attitude
says my mother" this is a great day...you are graduating...what an accomplishment"
the newest High School Grad replies "ma...all a high school diploma means is that I've done the least amount of work necessary!"
Indeed my younger Brother...strive for more than this......you are in a fair way to aim for everlasting EXCELLENCE
{although it took more than the least amount of effort to letter & to wear a gold braid}

THE INCIDENT

expanded version:

We {the kids and I } were enjoying a rainy day playgroup at her house......when all of the sudden shrieks rung out as the boss pulled the wooden toy kitchen down on himself, creating a smallish cut with matching bruise & plenty of scream........when in the midst of this trauma down the stairs came {2} 6 year old informants & the bloody headed Liam explaining that he fell from the top bunk onto something {they weren't sure what}...........so i moved from the boss's minor cut to Liam's fear inducing gaping wound.......she was kind enough to let what was left of my children stay at her home until Angelo could get from work to her home to pick them up..... Liam and I took off to the pediatricians office...........here it gets a bit blurry.....i know there was talk of bone fragments {none to report}...paint fragments {white paint}......a few words about irrigation{ then the performance of this horrifying act}..........maybe a couple of sentences regarding the importance of his wakefulness.........
**BUT what I remember most**
was trying to be brave, so he would
buying ice cream on the way to the peeds office to keep him awake
trying not to vomit, 'cause i was sure i was going to,
trying not to faint, 'cause the nurse was sure i was going to
trying to keep him from seeing it, cause he may never have recovered
trying to let him know i was there & he wasn't alone
trying to hold him still while they did what was necessary
trying to fight the urge to grab my son and run away from all the pain the Dr's healing was causing
trying to bridge the gap between my brain & heart
so I did all that mental work as the nurse and Dr. cleaned, numbed, numbed again, then injected numbing, cleaned again, and at last stitched my little brave boy who
let just a few screams escape
during the numbing injection but otherwise was rather usual
calm cool collected
in other words
typical Liam
three words that will never be used to describe his hyper sensitive...emotional....anxiety ridden Mother...........
well there you have it.....now he has 7 stitches for the next 5 days thereafter a gnarly scar to tell the other little boys about....boys who will respond with adjective like COOL, SWEET, AWESOME, WoW, AMAZING........and he will wear his scar like a badge while i will wear a wound in my heart from it & every time i see it a shiver will rush down my spine i'll slip him a little hug or kiss which will either embarrass or comfort him and we will have survived another adventure TOGETHER ......and that will be that

Tuesday, May 19, 2009

Nothing much to report........

Just 7 stiches smack dabb in the middle of my seconds forhead....oh
yes and a view of my sons skull that I could definatley have lived
without...and a nurses watching me like a hawk making little comments;
she didn't want to catch me, was I sure I was handling this, he's
okay mom, you alright......that's all

funny MONDAY

the other day........upon a SUNDAY we ( the Don and I) were discussing whether we should take our allergy ridden 3 year old to church..during the discussion her cough came up a few times " I just think with her COUGHING people may feel uneasy"...as soon as the sentence escaped my lips my daughter was standing on her chair in horrified objection
" I DO NOT DRINK COFFEE....I CAN GO TO CHURCH"
.......................................................
today while we trolled the dollar store isles searching for......well i never remember what i went in for, it is far less amusing than what we leave with i can assure you..
Jaxson and Liam found the foam swords the isle ahead of me and I heard Jaxson YELL
"MOM it is okay we will protect you from the EVIL DIVORCE"
i was shocked for a moment....when i came to i questioned my protector "what's divorce Jaxson?" the answer " I dunno something I heard in a movie once.....but I am sure it's EVIL and I will PROTECT YOU from it"

That man of mine......

well i must begin with offering all the HAppy BIRthDAY's i posses to my LOVE

happybirthdayhappybirthdayhappybirthdayhappybirthdayhappybirthdayhappybirthday

it's been too long since i tauted his praises..and now is a better time than any to exclaim my admiration & amazement of the man who lent my his surname....

...have i told you of his latest accomplishment...no...that is hard to believe..well the Don of my heart has recently captured a new title...

Angelo R. Carvajal LEED® AP
Seattle Office, Field Engineer
Mortenson Construction: Building what's next.
www.mortenson.com

Please consider your responsibility to the environment before printing this e-mail.

you can see it above..right next to his name...see..he is now LEED AP...do you know that in order to have those 6 words placed next to his name he spent MONTHS studying, practise testing, with little to no free time or hobbying..yes my love has once again proved that native English is not a requirement for taking ridiculously wordy, incredibly long, timed tests in the English vernacular.....now we add the leed test to the long list of English language wordy "aptitude" torture testing devices my knight has slain......i am forever amazed at this MAN....

this of course was accomplished while fulfilling almost every whim of a needy wife...4 children's wrestling quota's ....and taking out the GARBAGE..........what a man!!!

FUNNY day

a funny thing happened the other day....as the family sung I am a Child of God
EMELINE BELTED out
"WITH PARENTS KIND OF DEAR"
as most know the verse goes
"with parents kind and dear"

Monday, May 11, 2009

they say it's your birthday............
if you, like i love the Scripture Scouts you have no doubt heard the song
"sung" by wicked king Noah
i want want want what i want want want
i find my mind filled with i want.....
...to have my favorite lunch..cause it's my birthday
.... no fighting...cause...
.....to read, play my guitar...cause...
....to have everything the way i want it...cause.....
why is it so impossible for me to get over this....
yes it is my Birthday...yes I have been celebrated...as much as a 1, 3, 5, & 6 year old really can be expected...
but the reality is
M is throwing up
the boss doesn't feel all that well & he just removed his diaper and peed on the bench
the boyz when left for too long without my constant supervision fight
so here i sit my eyes tearing to be honest
running through all the ways my special day has wronged me
to make matters worse me thinks to myself
yesterday they all cried and tantrum'd all day
and i only get one shot a year at being the center of attention {LOL}
my b day and mothers day often fall on the same day or as is the case today consecutive days
"why does sickness come when I NEED to be celebrated"
and now we see
the natural woman.....and how she is an enemy to God
i am responsible for how my day goes only i can decide it was an birthday unworthy of
my greatness...huh
so
my resolve today is to remember...
i am home with the children I LOVE getting to care take which is my delight
i have an amazing chocolate cake in the fridge...which i can/will eat for every meal & snack today
i get to stay in the home where we make amazing memories
i am blest beyond that which i deserve
i get to order books from Barnes & Noble thanks to the Internet
& my Mother
i may even get to sneak away this evening...
the day is young..it's not to late to make it the best 28 known to a mother of 4 under 7's
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME may I change my ungrateful attitude in time to enjoy it!
