For the clueless...

For those who are graduating from JC2 (i.e. most of us):

Your concession expires on 31 Dec 2006. After your concession eligibility has expired, the card can be used for a further 6 months. Adult fares will be deducted during the 6 months starting 1 Jan 2007 (aka tmr) and concession passes cannot be purchased.

MEANS: That blue ez-link card of yours with your cute cute primary school face that has been laughed at by classmates effectively becomes an adult ez-link card, albeit only for 6 months. No more unlimited 45c bus rides. No more cheap concession stamps. Oh ya and adult fares are DISTANCE-BASED.

You may request for an immediate refund (if any) at any Ticket Office during the 6 months grace period. After the 6 months period, the card will expire and cannot be used or refunded immediately. Instead, a receipt will be issued and the refund can be collected 5 working days later at any Ticket Office.

MEANS: Refund to get whatever left-over value and deposit that is left in your blue ez-link card back. Best to do this immediately within the 6 month grace period because Transitlink is infamous for their ineffectiveness.

You will need to purchase an adult ez-link card after the expiry of the original card. A new adult ezlink card is available at $15, consisting of $5 non-refundable card cost, $3 refundable deposit, and $7 travel value. You will need to use this card until you receive your tertiary/NSmen ez-link concession card from your respective university/ army unit.

MEANS: Guys enter NS in Jan/April. Gals apply for university in March. Unless the army is super ineffective, or the local universities are super slow, it is estimated that only one month is needed to process your new red/green card with your more adult face on it. Go do the math. I’m not sure whether tertiary institutions other than the 3 local unis do this though…

Tertiary ezlink cardholders are entitled to purchase monthly bus/train/hybrid concession passes at $52.00/$45.00/$97.00 respectively. NSF ezlink cardholders are entitled to purchase monthly bus/train/hybrid concession pases at $61.00/$50.00/$111.00 However, full adult fares are payable when such e-stamps are not encoded (for example buy bus stamp take MRT, pay adult MRT fares. Buy MRT stamp take bus, pay adult bus fares)

MEANS: You pay more for bus/train/hybrid stamps. No more nice and cheap $27.50 bus stamps liao. Apparently NSF pay more to compensate for the stench that BMT trainees bring onto the bus/MRT immediately after book-out (especially the book-out after field camp), but that’s my theory.

Merry Christmas from America!

Hey pple!!

Its not Christmas here yet.. but merry christmas anyway!

Glad to know jon and chun teck aren't suffering in army.. think i'm gonna die when I come back.. already put on a few kg here.. and getting quite unfit. Heh..

Anyway, let me share with you all some of the highlights from my trip so far..

San Fransisco

This is where the famous golden gate bridge is.. I stayed at the town next to SF for the 1st week or so. I biked across the bridge, and it was quite tiring because we had to travel quite a long way to reach the bridge and there were many hills and slopes in btw. Anyway, this picture was taken from the mountain / hill behind the bridge, and the scenery from there is really beautiful.

Los Angeles

Its a hive of activity here at hollywood.. Posters of new movies everywhere, and people in costumes like this tiger walking around, posing for pictures and asking for tips. Its act quite hard to take a pic of them, coz they want you to tip them. I wanted to take this pic of spongebob but he always turned away when I pointed the camera at him. Anyway that's the walk of fame above where most of the famous stars names are printed on stars on the floor. Unless you're star crazy, hollywood isn't very interesting. Oh they give away free tickets for talkshows and comdies etc. here.. prob coz they are so many it would be immpossible to fill up every1 if they charged.

The highlight of LA was really this theme park - Six Flags Magic Mountain, filled with full of crazy rides such as these. Almost every ride at this theme park is a high thrill ride with lots of loops, twists turns and drops. At first, it is kind of scary before you sit these rides. But after sitting a few, you become kind of immune to it and no longer afraid anymore. It was lots of fun but you might get a slight headache after sitting the rides.

Alright, that's all for now.. THe next time I blog, i'll prob show you more pics of Las Vegas(sin -city - where casinos are everywhere) and the ski mountain (SNOW :D) I went to..

BOOK OUT!!!!!

WOOOO!!!!!! MERRY CHIRSTMAS!!!!!

Finally, the first book out... too bad its only 24 hours, and i have about 9+ hours left.

Hmm.... what to say about the army??

Actually, its still quite slack so far, for the first 5 days, the siren keeps going off, announcing 'CAT 1' (lightning and thunder), so most of the training were cancelled and pushed back. Haha, jotm even luckier, go for medical appointment, then come back still got time off from the physical activities.

Right now, jotm and I are in the same company, jotm living 2 floors below me. I very suay lor, kena the 5th floor, which is the top floor, so everyday have to run up and down 5 flights of stairs. Well, at least I will be able to pass by standing broad jump by the end of the 3 months.

4 the guys going 2 army, besides the standard items on the list, it won't hurt to bring some extra stuff, such as scissors, pens, notebooks, rags, marker, clothes peg etc. Some of them may be very useful. N if you want 2 practice 4 the army, try drinking 700ml - 1000ml of water in one shot, then control your bladder until you cannot tahan anymore :P. In army, i think we drink up at least 5 - 6 bottles of water everyday, even more if there's physical activity.

So far, the food there is quite good, u don't need to worry abt not getting enough food for each meal. But then after a while, I think you will find the food quite sian, because the menu is quite repetitive. Chicken is present in almost every meal, so if you don't eat chicken, too bad...

Actually, this december PTP batch is quite lucky. While others have to stay the first 2 weeks in Tekong, we get to book out after 10 days. Whats more, we are gonna have a 5 day book out from the 29 dec to 2 jan. All thanks to the public holidays :). PTP batch is also less hiong, because we got extra 4 weeks to learn all the stuff, so the pace is less tiring than the pple going in on Jan.

9 hours left, so im going to enjoy the rest of the day.
Merry Christmas, and see you all on the 29th!

My First Bookout

Hey all, this is my first bookout, due to a medical appointment =). Let me talk a bit about ns before the rest of you go in. Ok, let me do this the standard army way, step by step.

1. Army can be fun. Why? Becos of the ppl there, not really becos of the drills and the water parades (you'll know what is this later and you will learn to treasure the toilet).
2. The food is kinda ok. but they seldom give enough time to eat so eat as fast as possible.
3.When in lectures, listen up and listen well because you may be tested on it. Also, cannot sleep unless got no sergeant or officer around =)
4. Every day also have not enough sleep. Only 7 hours allowed and it's not really enough becos u might not be used to sleeping in the bunk.
5. First two weeks cannot book out unless got public holiday or other reason (medical appointment, sb getting married, interview...) Unfortunately for ppl goin in april, there aint much holidays there, so the first two weeks stuck in camp.
6.Must shout loud loud, otherwise ppl laugh at you. Dun worry, i got this covered.
7. When march, march properly or ppl will also laugh at you.
8. Salute also must do properly or kena tekan.
9.Got a lot of new things to learn and when the sergeant talking or demostration look closely and listen carefully.
10. Every thing you learn write down in a notebook so you wont forget. Then memorise it. That's the strategy i use lah. If u got photographic memory then just forget the last point.

Anyway, enough talk, time to take a nap =) very tired liao. cant wait for u peeps to get into ns too, then got more ppl to talk to in camp otherwise me and chun teck very lonely lol.

ITS OVEERRR!!!!!!!

FINALLY.

Ok.. i sound like some mad guy ranting off steam that have been building inside him for months. But well, the A levels was like over for me the day econs paper ended. And I've been rather relaxed since then but there was still this burden on my mind, one that had to be carried on for 1 and a half more weeks for just 3 more papers, non crucial at that. Inevitably, it led to a sort of restlessness for me. I was neither in hot nor cold water, half in and half out of the mud, almost free but still with an irritating cord tied to my toe. I think you get the idea.

So when the hand finally reached 5 o'clock and I handed up my script, you can imagine the relief I must have felt; the giant load taken off my mind.

But strangely, my head didn't feel any lighter. Not yet, at least, I think I haven't fully appreciated the fact that I'm officially on holiday now. Because right now, I don't know what to do. I have ceased to become a 'productive unit of society'.

Actually, maybe another reason is that I still have SAT II on saturday.

But you can imagine that I won't be studying much for it.

Of S Papers

Just to let you all know, I kind of screwed up my S papers. Math S was terrible because I wasn't thinking well. Econs S should have been ok if not for the questions that they set, which were almost totally unrelated to what we had been thought. (Its like you spotted the wrong topics; only in this case you didn't even know that such other topics existed) I believe this sentiment is quite common among VJ students though, since I heard that many thought math S was a goner; and well, practically everybody were not taught to attempt such questions (in my opinion; of course I might have been taught such topics before unknowingly because either a) I was sleeping or b) I couldn't grasp the concept, which is quite common actually).

S papers are indeed difficult, but they are also very interesting. Well, perhaps its not so interesting if you have no clue what they are talking about, which was exactly the case at the beginning of this year. But lowly and gradually when you find out, 'hey I can do part of that question!' and things begin to make more sense to you, you will find that its really interesting.

I was especially puzzled as to why Econs S lecturers would rattle off names at the beginning and during the lecture itself. Before introducing a theory, they'd talk about the person who invented it. They rattled off names like 'Tullock, Harberger, Schumpeter, Coarse, Phelps, Hicks, Friedman..." Now that I've become acquainted with this names, I realize the reason why. Its because either one can't help marvelling at the person for coming up with such a creative theory or one wants to poke fun at the person for coming up with a ridiculous theory.

Well anyway, its all over now. And right now my most pressing task is to find a productive use for my time.

I won't be bored though. If I miss exams, there's always the SAT II to look forward to.

(Yeah right.)

thank you all for celebrating the birthdays, it really meant a lot :)

after this we won't really meet up a lot in a big group, but i was just thinking maybe we could meet once a year?

i guess we all have our own commitments so it's ok if this does not pick up but just a thought... of course it won't happen yearly at Mrs Ting's house:)

keep in touch yes? God bless you all:)

Mrs Ting's Mansion (heh)

There's been a lot of speculation of Mrs Ting's Mansion I see :)

Mrs Ting says that we can visit her on one of the nights before December. We would have to settle food ourselves though (like bring our own...?). Mrs Ting's house is at Katong, beside a pet clinic, at the end of some small alley, so yup :)

So how now, brown cow? next week would be best:) Everyone ends on next Monday, I suppose? See how loh...

Oh yeah let's tell Sean too!:)

Ok, so hope to hear from you guys soon, like time and date :) Will post the address when you guys confirm...

The best days of one's lives

After Chem Paper 1 today you could almost see everyone's paths diverging off here and there as they walked out of the classroom door, ready to 'begin' new lives and new adventures. Maybe except for the S paper people, and the Computing people, all 14 of them, who will finally taste freedom in some classroom on a Friday evening.

We will no longer see each other until March next year, by then the girls will have blossomed into women and the boys will have become balder and blacker (and hopefully much fitter). We no longer need to wear that beige uniform that has become synonymous with VJC. We no longer need to trudge through the school gate every morning. Seems like the final farewell.

Many seniors have said that their JC days were the best days of their lives. I have heard this phrase so many times that it has almost become a cliche. Previously I scoffed at such a cliche. Now that my JC days are coming to an end it is then that I truly realise how true that statement was.

From the orientation, when we could have truly serious fun, and then scream our heads out for our OGs without being called siao.

Then we got to know our classes. I got to know 05S44, and the other 24 people that made up 05S44, who have royally pissed me off at some points in time, but have put a smile to my face for many, uncountable points in time. At first we all erected barriers around us, but after 2 years together we can all approach each other and joke and share without looking stupid.

Then we got to join CCAs and engage in some 'CCA spirit', and know other crazy siaokias.

Then the lessons, which by themselves held many memorable moments.

Then the tests and exams, which left behind unforgettable memories.

And then the many special events along the way, too numerous to count. I believe the photo gallery our dear evil CT rep put up is a very good reminder of those.

Point is, we have made many steady and true friendships, something that would be hard to come by in the near future. We would like to remember many people that have crossed our lives, that barged into our paths, that crashed headlong into us, that we have fallen in love with =p

And after this, now what? As the girls go on to uni and build their own timetables, and the guys don the jungle camo, we will go on to build our own paths in life. We will go on to mug further, strive for the best, and live life to its fullest. We will go on to live, to love, to craft a new generation in our mould and to pass on into the sands of time.

Most importantly, now that we are out of the education system with nary a guiding hand to help guide us, we are on our own now. And may we all remain happy, and learn to seek the simple pleasures in grind and toil of day-to-day living. And just like what Wilbur has said, the A levels is just yet another wall we must overcome. There are possibly taller and bigger walls out there. What's coming will come, and we will have to face it when we do.

Well, since this is a class blog, and not some self-help booklet, I'll have to say something about this class. We have all built wonderful and strong bonds that link all of us together over these past 2 years in more ways than can be counted. May those bonds never be broken. May we never forget each other. May we remember each other 5, 10 20 30 years down the road. And may we embrace each other in our hearts.

This is not yet the end of this post. It will only be completed when all of you step forward and say something, since one person over here doesn't represent the views of 05S44. I'd think we would really love to find out what each of us thought of S44, and I know you all have somethings you would want to say to the class ;) And when we all read this post later we would grin silly as we reminiscence about those good old days.

So it's over

"Stop shading." - 3:29:15pm

It's over. It finally is. All of our 12 years of studying will be summed up in 4 to 5 letters and a very long testimonial and achievement slip.

The A levels have come to an end. We have no more reason to go back to school...

I will miss school.. the teachers, the friends, the late nights, the empty classrooms and concourse, the life and noise of the school....

To those who still have the S papers, all the best:) These few days will be traded off for many more dollars per month later on in life:)

To the rest, let's have fun and remember each other yeah?:)

Thank you all once again... and welcome to the real world...

I will miss everyone.

The last step

Come tomorrow, many of us will be crying 'freedom!'

At long last...?

On wednesday, as the Econs case study scripts were being collected, it felt as though it was already over, and indeed, the worst had passed. 7 gruelling papers in 3 days. I guess those were the 3 most important days.

But strangely, instead of an immense sense of relief, I felt a tinge of... sadness.

Because you see, it is our very last major examination of this sorts. We have been grappling with attending lessons, mugging, exam stress... since ages ago. And we do not like it. It has become an endless chain reaction for almost all of us - slacking first, then the stress comes and we start mugging, then more stress comes with the arrival of the exams, then celebration, then more celebration / disappointment when the results arrive, and then, back to slacking again. We have sat for countless of tests and 3 major examinations. Think of all the late nights you've endured and the study marathons you may have engaged in... all the times you have panicked when IT comes sooner than you think... crazy things you might have done because of exam stress... Come tomorrow, when we shade that last oval, it'll seem like a gaint full stop to this whole chain reaction.

Thus, this A levels puts a full stop to one phase of our life, and like a runner who is running his last marathon, it has special significance. Don't be too quick to dismiss it, for years down the road, you might be wishing that you were still in this sheltered environment, where we are still in control of our own results; just like how we wish we were still in primary school sometimes.

Also, as we put down this last full stop, all that we have learnt will slowly drain away. Integration, Differentiation, Trigo, Probability, Stats, Newton's Laws, Faraday's Law, Kirchhoff (the man whose name is so tricky to spell), EMI (Irritating topic), Bonding, Organic Chem, the dreaded Biochem, Kinetics, Electrochem, Economies of Scale, Keynesian's Theory, Classical theory, monopoly (no not the game), Market power, Market failure... and the list goes on.

Most of us can sit for a paper now and get an A for it. We're in tip-top condition. But the knowledge we acquire is hardly of any use to us, and even if it has, we won't purposefully try to use that knowledge. Years of studying... and its going to waste away. I mean, its harder trying to find a useful application of what we have learnt than getting 4As and S paper distinctions. Because we aren't taught that in depth enough to be able to make any real change with what we have learnt. So, if that's the case, what use are As?

Well, perhaps we can just find some uses if we try hard enough.
I can punch someone and say, "Hey! By Newton's Third Law, you're hitting me back with an equal force. So we're square." In my free time, I can cook up imaginary numbers in my bank account and wonder what they'll look like in an argand diagram. I can even kill someone - by shaking him at a frequency of 10 hertz so that his internal organs vibrate in resonance. I can also steal someone's diamonds, replace it with graphite and say, "Hey look! Your diamond turned into carbon! I've checked my data booklet, the reaction IS feasible." And when we're slapped with higher GST rates, no one can fool me. Its a regressive tax! And so I'll adjust my consumption and savings function so that the government can't get any extra tax revenue out of me...

Well enough of crap.. I'm sleepy (again). All the best, S44, for chem paper tomorrow. And since its our final last normal paper and its MCQ, I hope that we can actually be happy doing it, for the act of doing it itself, and not just because we're looking forward to freedom after that. Because we'll never really be free; life always plunges us into new and more difficult challenges, and we just have the appreciate the finer points about what we're doing.

So end with a bang! And celebrate your 'freedom', while it lasts...

Wilbur

John Mayer - Stop This Train

No, I'm not colorblind
I know the world is black and white
I try to keep an open mind
But I just can't sleep on this tonight

Stop this trainI want to get off
And go home again
I can't take the speed it's moving in
I know I can't
But honestly, won't someone stop this train?

Don't know how else to say it
I don't want to see my parents go
One generation's length away
From fighting life out on my own

Stop this trainI want to get off
And go home again
I can't take the speed it's moving in
I know I can't
But honestly, won't someone stop this train?

So scared of getting older
I'm only good at being young
So I play the numbers game
To find a way to say that life has just begun

Had a talk with my old man
Said "help me understand"
He said "turn sixty-eight
You renegotiate"

"Don't stop this train
Don't for a minute change the place you're in
Don't think I couldn't ever understand
I tried my hand
John, honestly we'll never stop this train"

Once in awhile, when it's good
It'll feel like it should
And they're all still around
And you're still safe and sound
And you don't miss a thing
Till you cry when you're driving away in the dark

Singing
Stop this train
I want to get off
And go home again
I can't take the speed it's moving in
I know I can't
Cause now I see I will never stop this train

Graduation

What Liang Hong wanted to post but couldn't :P So here I am helping him with it. Enjoy!

So... the two years are over... the Victorian years have come to an end.

Looking back, I can't help but remember the good times and bad times that defined this intense period in our lives.

There was ponning lectures, breakfasts, PW, GP horrors that turned into the better lessons, seniors, juniors, STJ, then there was Mr Gi...

As we leave for separate ways after the A levels, I would wish to thank...

Terence for being in the same school for 12 years! You are still as funny, charismatic and crazy as ever:) Really in awe at how you interact with so many people...

Wilbur for being so patient and smart. Just thankful that we became classmates after secondary school life, and was able to get to know more about the person I heard so much about. Always so steady, academically insane and now big and strong. I have learnt so much from you outside the basketball courts ;)

Jonathan (JOTM!!!) for being a genius. Chess club rules man! Hahahaha... can't believe we became classmates after four years of going to different schools. You really don't look like ACS boy lah, seriously... too docile already... haha! (It's a good thing:))

Szemin and Yiting (MonokoRo-BooS!) for being the colourful twins! i won't forget you two after ALL the things that you girls tried to do... Pinky and the Brain la both of you all.. thank you for being small but happy all the time, contented with life without lacking the drive to excel:) Just remember office work cannot use many many colourful pens ok? Guai:)

Angela for being my forgiving friend. Thanks for many chances and being nice when i was growing up. You had to bear the brunt of it... *sigh*. Oh well glad that you found happiness!:D

Qingwei for being funny! Eh relax lah, not all the time got people wanna poison your food lah... not all the hawkers work for Microsoft you know:) Next time, must chiong a new computer programme ok? thank you for creating this blog, and for being such a pro at robotics! :) Make us a robotic 05S44 dog next time ah...

Minning for all the street wise talk on shopping and k-boxing with Nigel Tan! And your verbal jostle with Jenn Haur over mooncake festival at Wilbur's house in chinese! Thank you for being so steady and funny!

Mohan for your random and funny comments! Thank you for opening doors by bieng a great, friendly Council member and creating chances to get us involved positively :) your abundance in knowledge is something i can only dream of possessing, and your academic results speak for themselves. But as for now, we have graduated with memories imprinted in our hearts and minds. We have matured as a class, putting aside differences and coming together under the fire and through the rain...

Thank you guys, for the 05S44 experience :) There will never be anything like this. Even as we go our separate ways 3 months from now, all the best alright? Take care...

There is so much of life set before you guys to conquer it… so onwards people! :)

Its farewell... (for now)

This is the place for me
Where I want to be
The beauty of the four seasons
In one tree

I never really realised how apt this description was, yet there it was, describing our very class. A group of people with different personalities, put into a single class, yet creating such a beautiful picture; a class, where at the very end of it all, we all truly want to be in.

Farewell is about flashbacks, and lets flashback to the time when we first got together in a class.

Sorry, no spiritual leader and no bell to ring. :P

|| Friday, March 18, 2005 || || 12:39 AM ||

hello

hello

Our very first post; and it also kind of describes how we felt when we first met. A simple, short hello. We knew nothing about each other, but yes, we were willing to give each other a chance. After all, it was the beginning of two years to come. Deep in many of our hearts, we hoped that our class would turn out to be a fun and bonded class.

fragments

this class is so fragmented....

everywhere we go, whatever we do, you see little groups forming up, you see loners standing at one side, you see people who would rather be somewhere else...

when will we be able to really call ourselves a class and not as a collection of groups..?

However, while some of us wanted to give this class a chance, others were afraid of doing so. Many hung on to their secondary school days, comparing it with JC life and felt the good ol’ days with their secondary class was so much better. As a result, some people stayed within their comfort zone and didn’t take the initiative to learn more about everyone in the class. And problems became to crop up in the form of ‘cliques’. Most noticeably, people from the same schools. So we had people like Shu yu and Jie Jun, Steph and Shuwen, and of course, the two best friends hanging out together almost exclusively in the beginning. Some people also felt left out at the beginning, like our poor Angela (where were you, Nigel? Haha). But as we went through different experiences together, we truly integrated together as a class with a unique identity. Remember PW and the grueling hours we had to put in for our written report? And who can forget the healthy lifestyle programme that we so hated but have inspired us into our own healthy lifestyle programmes? And the funny moments with our teachers? “Ask me! Ask me!” Mr. Lim, who dotes so much on Wesley and gang. Mrs. Ting, who is the only teacher who can make us laugh when she says we’re all gonna fail. No doubt the great friendships within our class remain, but each one of us has integrated into the class and I believe we can truly be called a class now.

Haha. Remember this post by our quirky and funny qing wei? Its funny, how things that may seem ugly at first turn out to be something significant and so much more appreciated. Our blog password may seem lame at first, but now it holds a special meaning. Healthy lifestyle programme was irritating to us at first, but now we have converted it to a more fun recreational programme. Our class might have been seen as a bad mix at first, but now we do truly appreciate our diversity.

In fact, today was the day our class passed the acid test. Apart from farewell assembly day, its also known as ‘the day when even wei hong came!’ For those of you who didn’t come, you should really be ashamed of yourself! Haha, just joking. But really, S44 isn’t the same without a single one of you all, be it Mr. Nice Guy Liang Hong, the bubbly and cheerful (and sometimes a bit bimboish) steph, “HAHAHAHAHA! (help me I can’t stop laughing!) hysterical JIEJUN, “how many marbles?” and slacker Wesley, ms “I look really guai but actually I can be really crazy” Zhou Chu (or Jay Chou as she once called herself, lol), mr “wo tou fa you mei you luan?” Nigel, chemistry genius jonathan, and last but not least, our resident gossiper Minning.

Its really never the same with anyone missing.

All is not lost yet, we’ll probably have at least one final gathering after our A levels end. And hopefully, when we take that last picture together as one whole class, we’ll all joyfully shout “GIIIIII!” together as the camera flashes.

How much can you remember from your childhood?? :)

Fond memories For those who born in the 70s and 80s.

1. You grew up watching He-man, MASK, Transformers, Silver Hawk and Mickey Mouse. Not to forget, Ninja turtles, My Little Pony and Smurfs too.

2. You grew up brushing your teeth with a mug in Primary school during recess time. You will squat by a drain with all your classmates beside you, and brush your teeth with a coloured mug.The teachers said you must brush each side 10 times too.

3. You know what SBC stands for.

4. You pay 40 cents for Chocolate or Strawberry MILK every week in class.

7. SBS buses used to be non-airconditioned. The bus seats are made of wood and the cushion is red. The big red bell gives a loud BEEP! when pressed. There are colourful tickets forTIBS buses. The conductor will check for tickets by using a machine which punches a hole in the ticket.

8. Envelopes given to us to donate to Sharity Elephant every Children's Day.

9. You've probably read Young Generation magazine. You know who's Vinny the little vampire and Acai the constable.

10. You were there when they first introduced MRT here. You went for the first ride with your parents and you would kneel on the seat to see the scenery.

11. Movie tickets used to cost only $3.50.

12. Gals are fascinated by Strawberry Short Cake and Barbie Dolls.

13. You learn to laugh like The Count in Sesame Street.

14. You longed to buy tibits called Kaka (20 cents per pack), andDing Dang (50 cents per box), that had a toy in it and it changes every week not forgetting the 15 cents animal crackers and the ring pop, where the lollipop is the diamond on the ring.

15. You watched TV2 (also known as Channel 10) cartoons because Channel 5 never had enough cartoons for you.

16. Hardy Boys, Nancy Drew, The Three Investigators, Famous Five and Secret Seven are probably the thickest story books you ever thought you have read. Even Sweet Valley High and Malory Towers.

17. KFC used to be a high class restaurant that serve food in plates and let you use metal forks and knives.

18. The most vulgar thing you said was asshole and idiot and THE MOST EXTREME WAS 'super white'...you just couldn't bring yourself to say the hokkien relative.

19. Catching was the IN thing and twist as the magic word.

20. Your English workbooks was made of some damn poor quality paper that was smooth and yellow.

21. CDIS were your best friend

22. The only computer lessons in school involved funny pixellised characters in 16 colours walking about trying to teach you maths.

23. Waterbottles were slinged around your neck and a must everywhere you go.

24. Boys loved to play soccer with small plastic balls in the basketball court.

25. Teng-teng, five stones, chapteh, hentam bola and zero point were all the rage with the girls and boys too...

26. Science was fun with the balsam and the angsana being the most important plants of our lives, guppies and swordtail being the most important fish.

27. Who can forget Ahmad, Bala, Sumei and John, eternalized in our minds from the textbooks. Even Mr Wally & Mr.Yakki. What abt Miss Lala??? And Zaki and Tini in Malay Textbooks

46. You brought every single book to school, even though there was one thing called the timetable.

Spread this heart warming message around, you don't get something like this very often. Never frown when you're down, you never know who's falling in love with your smile... For those who are born in those days... remember the good old days? For those who arent.... know what u missed out..? Does/can the present be exchangable for the past? U decide.

Mid-Autumn Festival

This might be a little late but just some final details about our little celebration tomorrow night.

Time: 7.00 p.m.
Venue: Ocean Park (hope you know where it is. heh. along the canal opp. st pats)

If you want to enter through the side gate, which requires an access card, give me a call and i'll come and open the gate for you. Or you can wait for someone who is just coming in or going out and go in with him. Alternatively, you can walk one round and enter through the main entrance (via east coast rd). If the security guard stops you and asks for the unit no., just tell him its "Eucalia #04-03"

OK.What to bring?

Since we're having a potluck, bring FOOD. :D You can cook it yourself, buy it, or even share among yourselves if its like too expensive.
And since its mooncake fest, bring mooncakes if you have extra :D

AND lanterns if you wanna play!

Alright! Hope we have an enjoyable mooncake festival. heh.

Holiday

hey guys, i've decided to take a look around myself to find out more about the choices and range of prices we have. I figured out that since some of us might find the price steep, or can't spend too much coz we mite already be going on another holiday, we can perhaps look at some of the alternatives we have available in the biggest thing that has happened to the airline industry - budget airlines. haha.

ok so assuming we don't go on a tour and take a budget airline, stay in a budget hotel and go free n ez.. here are some of the prices you'll be looking at.

For Taiwan (taipai),
a normal economy class tic from thai airways is around $375 with return
a budget airline - jet star charges around $307

not much difference here and I'm quite surprised by that. Maybe I didn't look hard enough..

For accomodation,
a normal hotel would be around $105/night and a budget one would be $70/night

Again not a lot of difference but you don't have to assume the budget one is really cheapskate budget or the normal one is much more luxurious.

Overall, assuming we stay like 4 nights, the cheapest rate would be $447/person, since 2 pple share 1 room. If we can get 3 pple in 1 room it'll go down lower a bit.

Ok. so that's taiwan for you. Saving on accomdation and airfare isn't such a bad idea as it'll leave you more money to shop. But anyway, considering the political climate in taiwan now, where you might just get beaten up if you wear red or green, some of our parents might not let us go. And also, it'd be safer to go with a tour group. Ahh.. but we're adventurous, we can go and take a look at the protests, something we can't get see in Singapore. heh.

Ok what about other places?

If we go phuket on tiger airways.. It'll be $19.98 / flight.
If we go to HK on jetstar.. it'll be $256 including return, and their budget hotels are also around $70/person. So yes its cheaper than taiwan.

Ok so that's basically what I found after my brief research.

I feel that if we want to make this a class thing (>50% of the class goes), we'll have to make it affordable. We can also go to nearby destinations like well, Malaysia. At least it beats staying in S'pore all the time. ahah. But most importantly, we need to see some serious interest.. so please respond if you're for the idea, because we'll need to plan early and book early to get cheaper rates. There's also many things to settle on such as when we're going, last S paper finish around end of Nov? So yup, we'll need to discuss as a class while we still can.

Oh anyway, anyone interested in going for a movie on monday or tuesday? when most of us have finished our papers..

the future?

hey guys. wow i haven't been here for quite a while... sorry for being so lagged... i know it's just before GP but can take this as a warm up... just kidding:)

just saw the whole scholarship fair thing... and like to be honest, i don't know what i wanna do.

i wanted to be an accountant... until i saw my sister slogged her guts out at that desk job...

then i thought of being a social worker but felt that it would be quite a bit of work there...

so i guess i could settle for being a teacher? hahah but i might mislead all the students, like how the piped piper led all the rats into the sea ( heh heh heh... oops)

so honestly i am pretty lost... in the near future though, would love to pursue music in the army (hopefully they will take me in there). a good 2 years of playing would do anyone good ;) and like yeah just hope to get a job that will help people live life to their best... but i guess in any job, you can influence and help those around you and help them live their best right? hahaha

hmmm in summary was just thinking of getting a job that would allow time for me to pursue music as a sideline... personally i would love to pursue the path of music but i have been told that it is not that possible or practical in Singapore... people only become so good to teach others. i don't mind being a teacher but there's got to be more than that in this right? if not it will such a weird cycle with totally zero impact on society, other than the ones that would be taught. and like there is so much more to explore... well shan't go there haha.

so yup, kinda stuck.

oh well i guess i am fortunate to have 2 years of time to think... until it ends, i am spared:)
