Jun 28, 2021 · Waterman began production of the Ideal fountain pen in the 1880’s, with production lasted to the 1950’s. The most popular model being the Ideal #52. Waterman began producing lever-filed pens in 1915, when they devised a lever box mechanism to circumvent Walter Sheaffer’s lever-filling patent.

May 23, 2016 · Woodgrain pen is likely a Waterman 52-1/2V (see the number stamped on the bottom end of the barrel) from the mid-1920s, approximately. Nib is 14K gold. The other pen is not a Waterman, nor is the Supremacy pen to which you linked.

When the company introduced its new No 7 model in 1927, the pen was made of hard rubber. But it wasn’t ordinary hard rubber; it was a beautiful two-tone material with the unique “Ripple” pattern that Waterman and Day had developed to replace Waterman’s four-year-old mottled (“woodgrain”) hard rubber.
