Gmail suddenly showing thousands of unread messages
Jan 1, 2023 · This is the case whether I check gmail on my iPhone, iPad, or Macbook. I have deleted my gmail account from my iPhone and re-installed it, but all the unread messages were still there. It appears that all of the messages I have archived from my iPhone in recent months have returned to my inbox as unread messages.

Click the option to select all conversations found; Press/choose the Trash icon to delete Remember to purge your Gmail Trash if you do not wish to wait 30 days for the emails to be permanently deleted. Remember permanently deleted emails cannot be recovered- so be careful!

I deleted 29,000 emails and my storage usage didn't go down.
Apr 8, 2019 · Now, with regards to having deleted those 29,000 emails- did you also empty your Gmail Trash Bin? This is the one inside your Gmail. It keeps anything you delete for 30 days before finally purging it. Until you purge that trash, the emails in it still count as storage used.
