See the thing here is, South Slavs went through roughly the same circumstances (and the Romanians aswell) throughout history. So while not everything comes from being Slavic, i definitly feel closer to (for example) a Serb than i would to a Frenchman.

Panslavism is an idea of unifying ALL Slavic people under one flag (at least that's one of the versions). This is an incredibly ambitious idea that would not work in today's world. However if Slavs had a common language and gradually improved relations and especially if Slavic sub-groups such as South Slavs manage to unite then it is possible.
