After a dozen acclaimed albums, virtuoso slide guitarist and bandleader Sonny Landreth found himself at an artistic crossroads. He wanted to finally create the full-length acoustic collection his fans had long requested.

Sonny can be heard on “32/20 Blues” and heard and seen on “On Your Way Down.” The project is part of an ongoing multi-artist tribute to the band’s late bassist (and Haynes’ fellow Allman Brothers alum) Allen Woody. “It was packed, it was late,” Sonny recalls.

Sonny’s new album is due the week of May 19, and it’ll feature guest appearances by Eric Clapton, Mark Knopfler, Vince Gill, Eric Johnson, Robben Ford, Dr. John and Jimmy Buffett. “The guest thing/duet approach has already been done to no end,” Sonny says.

Sonny and his band are also scheduled to join Jimmy Buffett for sessions in Long Island in the near future. And last but certainly not least, "The Tiki Bar is Open," the long-awaited John Hiatt-reunion-with-The-Goners album is slated for a Tuesday, Sept. 11 release on Vanguard.

You heard it here first: A new Sonny Landreth album is in the works! This as-yet-untitled project is slated to include a number of special guests and maybe a few more instrumentals than usual to accommodate some of the invited players. Stay tuned for more as things develop.
