I know a lot of people were nasty to the author and fans of the fic because of the content and it sparked a lot of unpleasantness regarding what kind of romance women are "allowed" to write and read which always kinda pisses me off.

Feb 5, 2024 · Yes and no. There are plenty of amazing fics I’ve come across just as good if not better than manacled, some older than some newer than. Manacled was a combination of amazing writing and blowing up at the right time on an app like tik tok that brought in thousands of new readers that otherwise likely wouldn’t have found it through AO3 alone.

Manacled is, to this day, one of the best, most well-written epics of any fandom I've ever come across. So yes, I'd say it's worth it, but if the dark themes (rape, gore, violence) are too intense for you, don't feel guilty about stepping away. You're not obligated to read it just because it's popular.
