Jun 3, 2021 · I have an 90" tool chest that I shadowed in Kaizen about 5 1/2 years ago and the foam is still doing great. I spaced the majority of tools well enough that I had room for additions since first shadowing it so thus far have only had to get 2 sheets to reshadow it after removing a significant number of tools, which I now keep in my job trailer.

Jan 31, 2018 · The cheaper version of the Kaizen foam (all black layers) runs for about $15 for a 2'x4' sheet on Amazon and the nice stuff (white center layers) is about $40 for the same size. There are also alternatives for shadow foam organization solutions on Amazon that come with two different color foam sheets and those are about $25 for a 2'x4' sheet.

Nov 20, 2018 · Kaizen foam is polyethylene foam that is glued into layers that you can pull apart. It's grossly overpriced for what it is, imo. You can buy big sheets of foam for a few dollars. Trying to do an entire toolbox out of Kaizen foam would cost you $100s.

May 5, 2023 · What tips do you have for cutting Kaizen Foam. This is my first experience with it and I've heard there is a little bit of a learning curve. I am using a small exacto style utility blade. I think it is working well, but I found it difficult to cut the spaces for the smaller tools and the bottom of the cutouts isn't very flat. Any tips or tricks?

Feb 24, 2021 · Came across some foam sheets at the local hobby store for $1-$1.50 each (~1/4") that looked good. It definitely takes more time than the more expensive systems, but works well. I initially used a nail pushed into a dowel to heat then melt the foam, but that ended up bending too much. I swapped to a cut off allen key which stayed straight.

It's pre perforated into cubes that you pluck out where needed. It's cheap and pretty thick. For my base layer, I just cut a slice out of the back/bottom of the foam about a 1/2" thick. Then just plucked the remaining top layer to fit my stuff. No contrast layer, but that can be added with craft foam as another commenter said.

I would use some 1/4 in ply to lay out, draw and cut a precise template, then use that over top of the kaizen foam with a hot wire cutter guide+ guide bushing, like you would using a router with a template. You could also sharpen a jigsaw blade to a razor(or just jig up a blade in there) and cut a long the template

Sep 2, 2013 · The key is a product called "kaizen" foam, and it's simply amazing. The idea behind Kaizen is that it's a single sheet of closed-cell foam (up to 2.25" thick) that is made of layers of 1/8" foam sheets laminated together. This allows you to cut a pattern in the foam, and then peel out the layers exactly as you want them.

With this volume you’ll want a foam cutter, a box knife is gonna get real tiring. Also even Kaizen foam will wear out so make sure to only foam stuff that makes sense, it’s easy to get carried away and waste space or foam stuff because you can and not because you should. And Jesus Christ man, that’s quite a collection!
