Jan 25, 2020 · FileB.docx was sent me by a person currently working as a Town Planner who will likely have an up to date version of Microsoft Office Word put there by his place of work FileA.docx still opens as an attachment, or as a file saved to my disk. FileB.docx does not open in either situation, failing with the same process described in my previous post.

Jan 1, 2008 · You don't mention how you tried to open it and what happened. Try the following. In your email client, click on the attachment and select Save As, or Save attachment or whatever similar option your email client offers. Note where you save it; then open Writer and select File | Open and navigate to where you saved the file and select it.

Jan 28, 2020 · I am a complete Novice, I have just installed Open Office 4.7.1 Using Writer, in the drop down list for SAve As, I can see no mention of "docx" All Microsoft options are for "doc" Any advice would be appeciated

Jan 22, 2020 · If the file name has a space in it [January 12.docx] it breaks up that file name and says first that it can't find "\\AppData\Local\Temp\January", then it sends up another message saying that it can't find "\\AppData\Local\Temp\12.docx". However, if the file name is changed to remove that space [january12.docx], then it opens fine.

Aug 17, 2017 · MS Outlook (formerly hotmail) allows me to open it and fill it in - but it's not wysiwyg and you have to keep changing the view to make sure it looks right (pain). If I could open it in OO I could check that it is OK before I send it off. The ORIGINAL file I got DID open in OO but the tables were all over the place and impossible to fill in.

Sep 27, 2008 · When I save a .doc file, in the "Save As" function, the only types of files it wants to save as are .docx or .docm (macro-enabled). I don't remember seeing this before. When I tried downloading other files that I've been able to open before, it won't open them, either. I downloaded the most recent version of OpenOffice, and it still doesn't work.

Oct 3, 2022 · I sent myself an email with test.docx attached. I opened the email in Thunderbird 102.3.1 under W10. I double clicked the test.docx attachment. AOO 4.1.11 started and the docx file opened as test-1.docx in Read Only mode as is to be expected..

Aug 1, 2014 · docx files are zipped files so you can unzip them to see what is happening. When I unzip test doc.docx I see it is a conventional .docx file, where the content is stored in \word\document.xml. The content says "This is a test". I can also open test doc.docx using Writer.
