Feb 18, 2023 · My interest is in the fact I served aboard USS ESSEX CVS-9 1960-1966, Bay of Pigs, Berlin Crisis, Cuban blockade. The old vintage Revell kit is a fair representation of her when re-fitted in 1959 as an ASW ship, so that is the one I really want to do right. Meantime, I've been looking for kits of the first three Essex's, the sailing ships.

I would also suggest that any serious modeller of the Essex purchase a copy of "The Essex Papers: Building the Salem Frigate 1797-1799" by Phillip Chadwick Foster Smith. Nov 11, 2024 · When I was a teen, I built the Constitution and the Cutty Sark from plastic kits and now in retirement after reading "in the heart of the sea" I'm going to live my dream and build a ship from wood. the Essex seems like a good choice, everything I ordered should be here by the end of the week and I just can't wait to start.
