I remember seeing a recipe for pan cubano from Chef John once. It wasn't arduous, but it was an over-night, "gonna require some effort" recipe, as many breads can be. On the other hand... I've made Cuban sandwiches with store bought French bread and found the result to be enjoyable, albeit less authentic.

Try buying some Cuban rolls from Publix, top sirloin steak (or flank steak if you’re on a budget), spicy Mayo, green bell peppers, and Queso Fresco.
