Come and See ending, questions and interpretations [SPOILERS]
Jul 18, 2020 · I finally watched Come and See yesterday and was less traumatized than I thought. Probably because I was prepared for the worst. And probably also because I was interrupted quite few times, more than ordinary. (The first images of the real footage were the most disturbing though.) I had two questions and I also give my interpretations [spoilers] :

"Come and See", directed by Elem Klimov, tells the story of a young boy who joins a group of Soviet partisans on the Eastern Front of WW2, specifically in Belarus, 1943. Its treatment of war from the perspective of powerless bystanders is both harrowing and haunting.

'Come and See' (1985) film review - the most important war
To think I used to think Saving Private Ryan was the end-all-be-all war film. Sure it shows it’s horrors in the harrowing battle sequences, but the rest nowadays feels like propagandist American pie. THIS movie, Come and See, is the end-all-be-all war film. It is absolutely breathtaking (in all the ways possible, good and bad).

Hitler as the root cause makes sense, of course, because without him so much of this tragedy and suffering would be undone so we get this.. almost fantasy sequence of killing him and watching these horrific scenes undone.

Sep 10, 2023 · Come and See isn't shocking and traumatising because of the violence or brutality. It's shocking because it's a pretty accurate representation of things that really happened.
