Apr 19, 2023 · If you listen to Tolle's two audiobooks "The Power of Now" and "A New Earth" 200 times or so, as I did, you would most probably still learn something new and eye-opening in the 201st time. Though his talks do not have this brainy intricacy of Alan Watts', I find his two books more comprehensive for the spiritual seeker than Watts's works.
What are some criticisms of Alan Watts you relate to?
May 1, 2023 · I think Alan Watts was wise to point out where the academy was getting it wrong, but he might never have considered that scientists and mathematicians find complexity to be a beautiful thing in and of itself. I think this was one place where I differ strongly with Watts.

Feb 2, 2015 · My old therapist was a zen Buddhist for 40+ years and knew Alan Watts. He hated him and called him a fake because he argued Alan wasn't actually teaching Zen. I told him Alan never claimed to be a Sen teacher but my therapist complained anyway.

Alan Watts doesn't really do this, instead saying things that give off the impression of insight. Nor is he genuinely engaging with any philosophical project. You wouldn't call a person who only talks about numbers, but never does any calculations or derivations, a mathematician, regardless of how profound their musings on numbers seemed.

Alan Watts is good for the mind, but it's suggested that you go deeper in the heart and connect the two together. So I would consider going deeper. I suggest Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche...
