The City of Orange Beach and the operator of a toll bridge near The Wharf are prioritizing profits over protecting the future of Alabama’s beaches, Gulf Shores Mayor Robert Craft alleges.

The Baldwin County Bridge Company, in a news release Friday, said it was increasing the toll rate to use its bridge in Orange Beach from $2.75 to $5. The rate change is effective Wednesday.

Gov. Kay Ivey, Orange Beach Mayor Tony Kennon, and the Baldwin County Bridge Company made the announcement of the purchase after the agreement was signed on Wednesday, according to a press release.
