Thirty officers from the Los Angeles County Probation Department have been indicted on criminal charges after an investigation into allegations they allowed — and in some cases encouraged — fights between teens inside the county's juvenile halls.

The fights occurred over a six-month period 2023 and involved 143 victims ranging in age from 12 to 18, according to the Department of Justice.

The state attorney general’s alleges that officers “allowed and, in some instances, encouraged” 69 fights among the youth. The 30 officers are charged with child abuse and endangerment.
