Does anyone know of any decent Muay thai, or even MMA gyms in the north of Germany within an hour of Guterslo? I'll hopefully be moving there later in the year and the only gym I can find is a place called "Joe's Gym" that holds classes called "kick thai". Now I'm not too sure what kick thai is but I think judging from their website that they mean they teach kickboxing and muay thai in the same class. yikes.

Try E-mailing the MTBD or the IKBO

Talk to Masters Gym in Duisburg as they also run the IKBO

ISKA and WKA all have may clubs in germany

Try googling Ralf Kussler and ask him !

Will do thanks for the tips guys. Yeah my girlfriends (who is german) has been to the kenpokan a couple of times and ive heard good things about it but I think it's too far away from where I'm going to be staying, 10 minutes outside gutersloh.

Out of curiosity, if there are none nearby I've toyed with the idea of starting my own club - what, if any, regulations are there regarding things liek this in germany?

Very much the same as in the UK except you should really need a qualification of some description.

You should also join an association - yup youve guessed it there are lots of em !! LOL

There are a few - but with your location I would say maybe your talk with the IKBO as they are based in Duisburg and have regular Interclubs with up to 50fights on. Be careful about where the regular action is - as if you join an organistaion that has regular shows or interclubs in say Munich - its a 5 hour drive !! LOL.

Like I said Duisvurg is close to where you will be so handy for you!

The other people maybe to talk with at the MTBD - check their website to see whats coming up and take a look.

IKBO tend to interclub without shin guards - MTBD usually with protection.

I have been to both WKA and ISKA shows and standard is good !

Lol as stevie has clearly proven, you don't need mad skillz in the ring to be able to coach :-) Nah in all honesty, if I find that the only gyms nearby aren't very good then I feel fairly confident that I could probably do a better job myself but really at this stage it's just an idea. I'd much rather join an established gym where someone can coach ME.

Thanks herrcutt thats loads of info. As far as I'm aware the ISKA are a more internationally regarded association but I'm guessing the other two see mroe action in germany? I think the actual town im moving to is Bielefeld so the Kempokan is about an hours drive away - probably a bit too far for me. My girlfriend said something abotu a wek long course that you have to go on for ANY sport so that you're allowed to coach. I guess thefirst place to start looking into it if I need to would be to email the associations and find out what they offer and where.
