The Chalk-browed Mockingbird is found in semi-open areas and near habitations from north-east Brazil to Bolivia, Paraguay, Uruguay and northern Argentina. There is a separate population north of the Amazon in Amapá.

The name comes from the broad white supercilium which is highlighted by the black line through the eye. The wing feathers have white edging and this shows as two white wingbars. The tail has white edging and white tips.
