Art Nerd Does JR’s #Insideoutnyc
Today is the last day to get your pic taken in Times Square for JR’s Inside Out project!
A few weeks ago, we went to JR‘s Inside Out photobooth in Times Square and it is AWESOME! You have about two and a half weeks to get your asses there and immortalize your mug on the floor of Times Square. After a quick photo sesh in the makeshift truck-photobooth, you get to wait and see the oversized photo print out from the truck’s side. Then a team member will help you wheat paste your face right in the middle of Times Square! Take that, giant advertisements! Its even better than a Hollywood star as far as I’m concerned. You have until May 10th to get yours, from 12-8 every day. Times Square Arts is killing it.
For INSIDE OUT NEW YORK CITY, JR and his team invite New Yorkers and visitors to take self-portraits in a specially designed photo booth truck stationed in Times Square, the site of the world’s first ever photo booth almost 100 years ago. The black-and-white self-portraits will be overlaid on a backdrop designed by JR and printed on the spot as a 3’X4’ poster. The posters will be pasted on the ground of Duffy Square. The project will activate Times Square as a creative hub—engaging the boroughs of New York with early photo booth truck stops made to the Bronx, Staten Island, Queens, and Brooklyn. The initial portraits pasted in Times Square on Monday will feature community members from New York City neighborhoods affected by Hurricane Sandy—the Staten Island waterfront, the Rockaways, Red Hook, and Coney Island.
The photo booth truck will be open daily April 22 to May 10 from noon to 8p.m. and portraits are free.
The pasted portraits will be on display on the plaza ground in Duffy Square at Broadway between 46th and 47th Streets (and viewable all day/night) through May 10. For more information about INSIDE OUT NEW YORK CITY, visit www.TimesSquareNYC.org/arts.
