Ageless Style - "Outfit Challenged"

The Ageless Style Link Up-  The first Monday of every month a group of over forty fashion bloggers pick a monthly theme and show different ways of styling it.

Hello!  Long time no see.  I am not back to a regular blogging schedule but I want to remain faithful to my blogging commitments so I will still participate in the Ageless Style Link Up once a month as long as they have it.  But before I begin the link up post I wanted to give everyone a little update on me and my family during the Coronavirus Pandemic.

First of all, we are all healthy.  Everyone is still employed, although my husband
was told he can't work over-time anymore.  He always worked sixty hours a week our entire marriage, and now he is working a normal forty hours a week.  It's nice to have him home more, but the loss of money from over time will hurt.   We're also not sure how much longer he will even have a job, if this quarantine goes on much longer.  That is scary, but I'm grateful he is still working for now as I know so many Americans are not.  All we can do is take one day at a time for now so we don't fall into complete panic mode.

My children and grandchildren moved in with us the day before the "15 Days To Slow The Spread".  It's been wonderful having them with us for the grandchildren have been a wonderful distraction for me.  I would be going out of my mind with worry if they weren't here with me.  Jason, my son-in-law is a private school teacher and has created an office for himself in our basement and is teaching his students on-line.  Ashley is a private voice teacher and has been teaching her students via the internet as well.  My other son Jordan is still in Illinois and still working full time.  Although he is very lonely, we all agree he should stay there while he still has a job.  But if he loses his job, he will move back home as well.

I know everyone is hopeful that this will end soon and life will return to normal, and I hope so too.  But, I really think there is a more sinister plot behind all of this, and life will probably never be the same again.  I won't get into all my "conspiracy theories" here as I'm sure many of you are aware of all of them already, but in preparation for the worst, we have been super busy planning and building a vegetable garden.  I've always had a massive flower gardens, but other than tomatoes and cucumbers, I never had a vegetable garden.  All the extra work of the normal spring garden chores, plus the new vegetable garden, and having more mouths to feed, has left me little time for blogging.  I still plan on doing an Easter post, because no matter what, I'm dressing up in my new Easter dress from TJMaxx (that I purchased before this whole nightmare began), and having church with my family in our living room celebrating the resurrection of Jesus Christ!  I feel like the "Who's" in "Whoville" in "The Grinch Who Stole Christmas".  No matter what the world "stole" from me, I'm still going to sing "Christ The Lord Is Risen Today" on Easter Sunday and I hope you do too!

Now, on to the Ageless Style Link Up shall we?  The theme this month is "Outfit Challenged".  Shugunna challenged us to style an item in our closet that "we liked when we saw it, brought it home, but then never or rarely worn it".  I immediately thought of this Ivanka Trump dress that I purchased from Ross two years ago and never wore.  I purchased it for my trip to Savannah but never ended up wearing it because I thought it was too uncomfortable to wear walking around Savannah streets all day.  It hung in my closet then unused because I always felt it was too "dressy" to wear anywhere, including church.  I thought "Maybe I'll wear it to a wedding someday", but I always ended up wearing something else.  So, when Shugunna challenged us to style our rarely worn items, I decided now was a good time to wear this dress to church but to try and style it "more casually" so I didn't feel so "dressed up" in it.

To tone down the formality of the dress to make it a little more suitable for our "casual attire" church, I simply added a lightweight long blue cardigan from Stitch Fix.    It was also a great way to extend the wear of the dress into other seasons, as it is a sleeveless dress meant for warmer temperatures.

The weight of the cardigan is perfect for these cooler spring temperatures adding just the right of warmth.

I accessorized with a taupe clutch (also from Stitch Fix) and simple, elegant pearl jewelry.  I kept the jewelry understated to tone down the fanciness of the dress.

For shoes, I thought it was finally time to show my toes as all the snow melted.  I picked these open toed pumps from my closet.

Because it was a cool, windy day the day we took these pictures, I did keep the cardigan on all day.  But I also wanted to show you a few pictures of this dress without the cardigan.

Like most Ivanka Trump dresses, it is a very figure flattering dress but also modest.  I just love Ivanka  Trump's style and I'm in constant awe of how amazing she always looks.

How To Style A Summer Dress For Fall

On Monday I shared "How To Style A Summer Maxi Dress For Fall",  today I'm sharing a new summer dress I received in my September box from Stitch Fix.  The dress is by Wisp and is called "Cyndie Jersey Dress".

Cardigans, jackets, and blazers are great ways to extend the life of summer dresses into fall.  The blue in this dress made it ideal to pair with a blue denim jacket.

Because the dress is sleeveless,  it's very easy to throw another layer over the dress for those no extra bulk on the arms.

The dress is so comfortable, for it is made of a soft, jersey knit.  I love the fit n' flare shape of the dress too.

I couldn't find this exact dress on line, but I love THIS ONE from Amazon.

To make this summer dress even more appropriate for fall, I added a contrasting fall color by carrying this mustard bag (similar HERE)

The bracelets and earrings are handmade jewelry I picked up on my vacation to Utah.  The teal color in the jewelry pulls out the teal in the dress.

The dress has a beautiful braided neckline with a keyhole opening.

This is the time of year I no longer like to show my toes, but if it's too warm to wear booties, I just pick a closed toe shoe option like these flat dark blue ballet shoes.  My shoes are old, but HERE is a similar pair.

I really like this dress because of the fabric.  These types of dresses are great for traveling because they never wrinkle and they take up so little space in a bag.  I took two dresses from Stitch Fix on my Utah vacation and I basically just rolled them up and threw them in my suitcase.  When it came time to go out to dinner,  I just unrolled a dress, threw on a pair of sandals, and I was off!  I loved it!

As always,  I'll let you know at my end of the month Stitch Fix Review post if I kept the dress as well as the results of my Instagram Poll.

Blue and White Maxi Dress

Happy Belated Easter!  I hope everyone had a wonderful day.  Ours was very uneventful.  We just went to church and then came home.  I made an Easter ham for my husband and I.  We were blessed with beautiful weather this year, which is rare in Wisconsin to have beautiful weather on Easter Sunday.  I didn't get to enjoy it much, as I was cooking all day, but I did sit on our porch briefly, and it was a joy to have the windows open and feel the warm breeze and hear the birds singing.

Because we had such nice weather, I was actually for the first time in many years able to wear a Easter dress to church.  I chose an old maxi dress that I previously showed you in a "Grandma & Me" post HERE.

You are also getting a sneak peek at my new living room in this post.  I am so sorry I haven't done a big reveal post yet, but would you believe this room is still not done?  This room has been such a disaster remodel, I don't want to say too much yet, as I will wait for the big reveal post, but let's just say NOTHING has gone as planned.  It is almost complete, I have a few more finishing touches, and I should be able to show you the room and explain everything that happened soon.

In my "Grandma & Me" post I styled this maxi dress alone, with different jewelry and shoes.  This time I styled it with a denim jacket, a pair of white wedges, and teal jewelry.

The maxi has a short white slip underneath. The floral printed portion is sheer and there is a slit in front.  It's a unique feature in a maxi dress that I like, because my legs are covered, yet you can still see them.

Shoes are from JCPenney (old).

Bag - DSW (old).

The teal jewelry is all from my stash (unknown and old),  and the ring is vintage.

Denim Jacket - Kohl's (old).

It's Not Easy Being Green...In A Too Small Dress From Stitch Fix: Fix #17

In my 17th Box from Stitch Fix I kept three out of five items:  a Calvin Klein Blouse, Red Jeans from Kut from and the Kloth, and the Lavi Leaf Pendant Necklace in this post.  This green dress was one of the two items I returned.  The main reason?  It didn't fit!  That rarely happens to me with Stitch Fix.  Most of their items fit me like a glove.  But something was off in the sizing of this dress.  It said Medium on the tag, but it fit more like a Small Petite.  It made me wonder if the wrong label was sewn in!

The dress is by 41 Hawthorn and is called "Bogota Dress".  I received another 41 Hawthorn size Medium dress in a previous Fix (shown here), and it fit me perfectly.  So I don't think the sizing error is a result of the brand.

The dress had some redeeming values:  I loved the pretty Emerald Green color, the length, and the crochet neckline.

The second item I received in this Fix was a Towne and Reese "Lava Leaf Pendant" necklace.  I LOVED this necklace.  The intricate pattern on the leaf was so pretty and I loved the added little stone.

I paired the necklace with a silver and emerald green bracelet (old).

I wanted to bring a second color into this outfit so I didn't look like the Jolly Green Giant so I wore these red wedges from Macy's (No longer available, similar HERE and HERE).

For a handbag, I chose this brown cross body saddle bag to coordinate with the brown strap in the shoes.

The reason I thought this dress was mis-marked and was probably a petite size was because the elastic band came right under my bust instead of my natural waistline.  My husband thought maybe that was just the style, but I'm not so sure.  It was also snug in the bust and difficult to get on and off.  I was lucky I was able to squeeze into it at all for the photo shoot.

So what do you think?  Was I right to send the dress back and keep the necklace?  I'd love to hear from you!

Blue Polka Dotted Stitch Fix Dress: Fix #14

I received this pretty dress in my February Stitch Fix box.  It is covered in trendy white,  pink, and blue polka dots.  It is a soft jersey knit  that is very comfortable.  It had everything going for it:  a perfect fit, comfortable, and  a trending  print:  Polka Dots.  Needless to say I kept it!

In my February Fix I received two dresses, one top, a vest, and a pair of skinny jeans.  I kept three items:  both of the dresses and the top.  If you're getting confused about my February Fix because I'm only showing one item per post,  I will be doing a summary in my last post of my February Fix next Monday.

Obviously it's too cold in Wisconsin to wear sandals and go bare-legged yet, so this outfit was put together just for photography purposes.  I'm hoping soon I will get to wear this outfit as it is so cute!

I picked these cute wedges to pull out the white polka dots in the dress.  I purchased them on clearance at the end of the summer season at JCPenney.  I haven't even worn them yet.  Shoes and coats are great pieces to get great deals at the end of season.  I often pick these items up to save for next year.  This year I scored big on two new winter coats from JCPenney by waiting till they were 60% off.  If you think you need a new winter coat for next year, my advice is buy it now!  You'll get a great deal!

My favorite feature of this  dress was the neckline.  I thought the cut around the neck and sleeves was so pretty.  I loved the way the material criss-crossed over the bust and was gathered.  I also like that the neckline did not plunge.  Too many dresses and tops plunge too low requiring me to wear a camisole for modesty.  This one has a very nice modest neckline...the perfect dress to wear to church!

I wore a simple pearl necklace for jewelry.  I felt the polka dots and interesting neckline did not require anything more.

I wore pink and gold bracelets and carried a bright pink cross body bag to echo the pink polka dots in the dress.

I was very pleased with the length of this dress.  It's so hard to find longer length skirts and dresses for my 5'7 frame.

Like I said earlier, the fit on the dress is amazing!  It's as if the dress was specifically made for me.  Stitch Fix really nailed it with this dress.  I couldn't be happier with this dress.

I know Stitch Fix can be a frustrating service for some people.  I know from experience what it's like to have great Fixes and some bad ones.  In fact, for my March Fix, I didn't keep anything and sent everything back!  But one thing I will say about Stitch Fix is that they have the best dresses.  Dresses are so hard to find in stores these days.  Especially dresses like this...more modest with longer lengths.  There are lots of short dresses with spaghetti straps out there, but not enough traditional styles like this that are appropriate for work or church.

The dress is so comfortable I will be able to wear it for everyday events like shopping, lunch, and travel and not just for church.  I love jersey knits!

Come back next Monday to see the other dress Stitch Fix sent me in my February Fix which was also a hit!  Then I'll conclude that post with a summary of my entire Fix.

Till then,  Have a Great Day!  Amy
