Duchess of Cambridge Donates her Hair to Charity

Kate Middleton’s long brunette locks, however you feel about them, have been the defining aspect of her style for many years—maybe even approaching iconic status, much like ‘the Rachel’ ‘do from Friends.

It’s now been revealed that the Duchess of Cambridge has donated some of her hair to a charity that makes wigs for children with cancer, who have lost their own hair during treatment.

Reportedly, during a haircut four months ago at Kensington Palace the duchess had at least seven inches trimmed off her chair and sent it anonymously to the Little Princes Trust.

A royal source says that she was persuaded by her stylist to get a shorter cut and then realized she could do some good with the snipped locks.

The source says the hair “was sent using someone else’s name, so that the trust didn’t know it was from a royal source—they just thought it was from a female donor in the Kensington area.”

Since the charity was founded in 2006, it has given 5,500 wigs made of real hair to children with cancer, and funds research into cures and treatments.

Pop star Harry Styles made a high-profile hair donation to the Little Princes Trust in 2016. The charity was only made aware on Friday the duchess had recently donated her hair.

The charity’s manager Monica Glass said, “We are so very grateful to every single person who kindly supports the charity in this way.

“As the Duchess of Cambridge is so much in the public eye, we hope the message that the charity can help children and young people with hair loss will reach everyone who might need our assistance.”

There was no comment on how much hair Kate donated but the charity accepts a minimum of 7 inches of hair as a donation.

Back in October the duchess (whose third child is due in April) rocked up to Paddington Station with a shorter, bouncier haircut—so it’s likely that this is around the time that the donation was made!
