Susan Smith
Susan Jayne Seymour Smith (Sue) passed away on March 13, 2023, in Cypress, Texas at the age of 82. She was born in Allentown, Pennsylvania on December 8, 1940, to Raymond and Frances Seymour, along with her twin brother, Jerry Seymour; She also had an older brother David, and baby brother, Philip. She attended Reseda High School in Reseda, California and graduated in 1958. She then met Howard 'Budd' Smith and they were married on May 28, 1960, and later had four children ~ Bryan, Scott, Josh, and Courtney, and raised them in Spring Branch, Texas after relocating from California.

Sue was an avid reader, letter writer, and enjoyed and collected many things ~ antiques, delft, and anything from the Wizard of Oz. But her real love was garage sales! She and her best friend, Gracie Gunn, would hit them every weekend, or sometimes host their own, ending the day over their favorite game of Scrabble and a glass or three of her favorite box wine as they enjoyed the treasures they had found! Sue also loved the beach, especially to hunt for shark's teeth and to go 'crabbing'! She would go to the Bolivar peninsula as often as she could, and because of this, she was affectionately named the 'Crab-Lady', and later on the 'Hat-Lady', as she always wore a hat of some kind! She enjoyed hosting the infamous Smith Family Annual Crawfish Boils at the family's blue box beach house for many, many years, and she also loved hosting Christmas Eve at her home in Spring Branch. She and Gracie would shop all year round at those garage sales which meant hundreds of gifts on Christmas Eve, and the more the merrier as friends would drop by all night long, met with wine, lively conversation and on occasion smoked oysters and crackers! She was also THE best baker of beer bread and never ever oversalted the crawfish bisque! Sue was a definite 'one of a kind' and always a 'Sassy', fun one, and she remained that way until the very end in her care home! Although her memory may have failed her in the end, our memories of her will remain strong and in our hearts forever.

Sue is preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Frances Seymour, her husband Budd, and their son Scott, brother David Seymour, and sister-in-law, Jan Seymour. She is survived by her sons, Bryan Smith (Gina) and Josh Smith; and her daughter Courtney Thompson (Jason); Grandchildren, Allison Bartlett (James), Emily Edmonson (Scotty), Ray Smith, Cassandra Mettner, Austin Gray, and Blake Gray; Bonus grandchildren, Christian Thompson and Tanner Thompson; along with 5 great-grandchildren; brothers, Jerry Seymour and Philip Seymour; sister-in-law Claire Seymour; and several nieces, nephews, and many friends.

The family would like to thank all the special caregivers at the Village Green Memory Care Home, especially Nicki and Melissa, and the hospice caregivers, especially Kristine, who all took exceptional care of 'Ms. Sue' and loved her so much. A memorial and celebration of life will take place on Saturday, May 20, 2023, at her beloved Crystal Beach.
