American Airlines Flight 77 was a Boeing 757-223 flying from Dulles Airport outside Washington to Los Angeles with 11,489 gallons of fuel, 58 passengers, 4 flight attendants and 2 pilots. Flight 77 is said to have crashed in the PentagonAttack, but we know that it did not:
It is interesting to note that American Airlines never officially said it was Flight 77 that hit the Pentagon on September 11th:
The conversations between the controller and American Airlines dispatcher are cryptic, but it appears to us that AA had notified NORAD by 9:14 a.m.: 9:14:53 - AAL: I talked to a winder in the center up there and I gave em them the information I got. What is clear from these conversations is that there is no indication of a takeover of the cockpit by hijackers. The pilot was in contact with the air traffic control, and presumably hijackers bursting into the cockpit and manually killing both pilots or wresting control, would take enough time for an experienced, a former Navy Captain, and Top Gun and Vietnam veteran fighter pilot, to shout some kind of alarm. But the controller says, we were talking to him and all of a sudden it just [went silent]. A friend of Flight 77's pilot, also a pilot himself who graduated from the Naval Academy with him and flew F-4 Phantoms in Vietnam together, also a pilot for American Airlines said: Not one of the planes alerted ground control that they were being hijacked... Shortly after climb-out to flight level, their transponders are de-activated...(they are no longer a blip on the radar screens). This is something that really needs to be looked into. We don't know what happened, but we do know that there is no evidence of hijackers. Of the 5 supposed "hijackers" of Flight 77, at least 2 are HijackersAliveAndWell: Khalid Al-Mihdhar - Alive Salem Al-Hazmi - Alive "Mr Al-Hazmi is 26 and had just returned to work at a petrochemical complex in the industrial eastern city of Yanbo after a holiday in Saudi Arabia when the hijackers struck. He was accused of hijacking the American Airlines Flight 77 that hit the Pentagon." Telegraph, September 23, 2001. See also our pages: Links:
