Easy Bargello & More

Madison brought this batik jelly roll quilt.  The pattern is called "Easy Bargello" by Busy Hands Quilts.

Madison selected the Raindrops pantograph and a dark grey thread.  I love the cozy Fireside backing that completed this quilt.

Val brought this pretty quilt that featured some batiks and some Asian prints.  She selected the Ginseng pantograph and a shiny blue thread.

Cross Stitched Flowers

This was a very unique quilt that came my way recently.   Olga stitched the 4 preprinted panel sections together and competed all the cross stich flowers and borders on this top, but decided she was no longer up to hand quilting the project.

Olga purchased this kit from the Mary Maxim catalogue years ago, and it was stamped with the cross stitch designs and quilting lines.  Olga asked if I could custom quilt this one by following the pre-stamped lines.  This was a request that was new for me, but I couldn't see a reason why it wouldn't work so we agreed on the plan.

I used a variety of rulers to follow the lines.  The process was certainly sped up for me as I didn't have to measure and mark anything and I was able to quilt the entire quilt in a single thread colour.

Helping my clients get their projects to the finish line instead of languishing in cupboard somewhere always make me happy.  A new take on this was was a great option and I wouldn't hesitate to tackle another one in the future.

Hex is Gone

Bridy brought this pretty quilt that really brightened up a cold winter's day.  The pattern is called Hex Is Gone from Taren Studios.

Bridy used fabrics and coordinates from the Art Gallery Fabric Season of Tribute - Garden of Opulence Collection.  She selected the Blooming Birds pantograph and a vibrant peach thread that shines on the sold fabrics.

My favorite part of this quilt was the backing fabric!  Bridy treated herself to some luscious flannel from the Garden of Opulence collection in a print called Botanists Essay Two.  Worth the splurge I'd say!

Detour Table Set

In amongst all of the client quilts that filtered through my studio, I did manage to finish a Christmas gift for my mother and father in law.  They downsized into a new place over the summer and bought some new smaller furniture including a new kitchen table, so a set of placemats and table runner to match was a fun idea.

I chose one of our Highway 10 Designs patterns called Detour.  I found the fabrics at a quilt retreat when Oma's quilt shop was a vendor.  The main fabric is from the Northcott Stonehenge Surfaces collection with coordinates from Northcott basics collections.

I cut out the fabric and then had a little work bee with my husband and daughter to piece them.  (After all, their names were going on the gift so helping only seemed right.)  I pinned and organized, Kendra did all the sewing and Nolan did all the pressing.  Many hands make light work! As a group we selected the Lithe pantograph and then the rest was up to me for quilting and binding.

The Detour pattern is available as PDF download or in paper format from the Highway 10 Designs website if you would like to make your own set.

Book Nook

Becky made this fabulous Book Nook quilt as a surprise Christmas gift for her teenage daughter.  The pattern is by Pen and Paper patterns.

Becky found some great fabrics for this quilt.  I love the striped fabric that she used for the pages.  The other fabrics led us directly to the selection of the Joust pantograph that echoes the Fleur de Lis motifs from a few of the prints.

The pretty pink backing was a really nice finish as well.

Oh Canada Quilts

Two Canadian themed quilts came through my studio this month.  This first was made by Donna for her brother who lives in Thailand.  The pattern is called Glorious and Free by the Quilter on Fire.

All the fabrics that Donna used are from the Oh Canada collections from Northcott.  I really love the combinations she used. The Bora Bora pantograph was a lovely choice.  I see leaves gently blowing in the wind.

The second quilt was made by Myrna for an exchange student that is staying with a family member.  All the fabrics are also form the Northcott Oh Canada collections.

We decided to use the Maple Syrup pantograph and add a few more maple leaves in the mix.  This will be a wonderful keepsake of their time in Canada.

Pinwheel Patch

This pretty little quilt was a team effort between three lovely ladies.  Michelle had a special quilt that she loved as a child that her grandmother had made for her.  She wanted her daughter to have something similar, but she herself is not (yet) a quilter.  She enlisted the help of her mother-in law Deann and Auntie-in-law Eileen who were more than willing to make this wish come true.

Michelle selected the Pinwheel Patch pattern and fabric was purchased from Needle Craft and Studio in Beausejour.  The three worked together to create the top and then I got invited to the party!

Michelle opted for the Fanciful Fliers pantograph and white thread.

I think it turned out super sweet.  Now I wonder if Michelle was bitten by the quilting bug??
