I decided to take a break from crocheting cold weather accessories today and made this adorable crochet jellyfish. I cannot wait to show it to my son(currently visiting his father for the weekend), he is going to love it! :)
I used a 4.25 mm hook for the "head " and a 3.75 mm hook for the tentacles. The yarn is Red Heart soft in sea foam.
You will need stitch markers or yarn of a different
color to mark rows/rounds(I normally just use the starting tail from
the magic ring)
Magic ring(6 St)
2 single crochet(Increase) into each st(12 st)
2 single crochet(Increase) into each st(24 st)
Single crochet in the next 3 st, 2 single crochet in the next(Inc), single crochet in the next 3 st, inc in the next, continue this for the row
Single crochet in the next 4 st, 2 single crochet in the next, single crochet in the next 4 st, inc in the next, continue for the row
single crochet for 8 rows
Single crochet in back loops(*front loops are for later*)There should be 36 stitches
Add in safety eyes, and sew V for mouth(if desired)
Start stuffing
Single crochet 2 stitches together for the row
Make sure that the “head” part of the jellyfish is stuffed to your liking, then make 3 more decreases, slip st into the next stitch, sew shut.
Now to use those front posts, with a 3.75mm hook join yarn into first front post and single crochet 2 stitches into the same st as join, single crochet 3 stitches into every other stitch for the row. Slip stitch into first single crochet of row, sew in ends.
Curly tentacles(Make 4) 3.75 mm hook
Ch 20
3 single crochet into the second chain from the hook and
every stitch
Straight-ish tentacles(Make 4) 3.75 mm hook
Ch 20
3 single crochet into the second chain from the hook and
next 3 chains, single crochet into the remaining chains
Sew in all the tentacles and you are done!
Now you've got a cute jellyfish of your very own! I hope this pattern was helpful.
Sincerely,
Evelyn

ReplyDeleteCould you please explain how to make the back loops. I am a complete beginner trying to teach myself and find some of the terminology confusing. Many thanks
ReplyDeleteInstead of going thru both loops, you just go thru the back loops of the stitch.
